In… out… in… out. Do what that meditation video was showing you, Amie reminded herself as she found herself walking away from Alexander and not for the first time. Over the past few months, this was her usual: Avoidance. Perhaps… this had always been her usual. When things became tough… or confusing… or frustrating… Amie had a tendency to run away. After all… what was she supposed to do? She was simply one, single person who had absolutely no control over those situations… the only thing she knew how to do was leave. Maybe she got that trait from her mother… a woman who, only a few months earlier, disappeared off the face of the planet leaving her father broken-hearted.
Phoebe never saw it… though Phoebe always had a way of blocking everything else out and taking care of herself. Not that was a trait that Amelia oftentimes admired, however, in the case of what happened to their family the girl just wished her sister could see behind the false smiles their father portrayed. See behind the lies that their mother was on a business trip. God… she just… wanted someone to talk to and in the past, that someone had been Alexander Beaumont-Stokes. Until… of course… Amie messed that up. Apparently, that was the ongoing theme in her life… messing up in her love life, and consequently, messing up any chance at a normal friendship with the man.
So yes, she ran. Her eyes were glued to the floor as she walked away in a hurry which… in retrospect, was probably a bad idea since another recurring theme in her life was a neverending clumsiness which only seemed to breed trouble. Trouble that would probably start with something such as ‘not watching where she was going.’ However, Amelia Grace didn’t get far before she felt someone pull her back, and it really only took one guess to know who that person was.
She didn’t look up, instead, her eyes stayed at his shoes - looking at them and talking in every detail as she reminded herself to breathe. She closed her eyes slightly, feeling his hand touch her jaw, and automatically moved towards the touch. It was honestly futile to resist because truly, as much as she would convince herself otherwise, Alex meant something to her.
She listened to his words as he moved her jaw so that her eyes would meet his, and she swore she could hear the thumping of her heart grow louder in her ears as he said that he wanted to try them. Perhaps for a second, she even had hope… hope that the man that she had a crush on for the last 7 years of her life may have liked her back. But here’s the thing - this was Amelia Grace, not Phoebe Renee. People didn’t fall for Amie - just take a look at Maxon Russo. Between the two of them, Amelia was the girl known for her intelligence, not her charisma in charming boys and she would likely never be that girl. It was exactly at that moment that Amie was highly aware of the eyes on her by the other students in the hallway, her brain quickly putting two and two together to realize that the only likely explanation of Alex’s change in tone was… Blue Royalty. As much as she wanted to believe that Alex really wanted this… it… just wasn’t probable. Not… for her. It was far more likely that this was simply a task and honestly, Amie just… didn’t want her heartbroken for the second time.
Her eyes flicked close for a few seconds, her heart aching as she felt his thumb on her face. God how she wished this was real. “I… just can’t Alex… I can’t do this again,” those were the only words that left her mouth after his last sentiment, and with that, she gave him one final look: a look that pained her more than most other things had in her life. A look that said this meant more than just a romantic relationship, it also meant their friendship. With that, she turned away from him and did what she never imagined she would - Amelia Grace left school, skipping the rest of the day and making her way home.
TIMESKIP A FEW HOURS
After spending most of the day in her room, hiding under the covers, Amie finally got up as Rascal, her dog, came pattering into her room - a soft pleading sound coming from his mouth in an attempt to make the girl walk him. The moment she got home, her father had asked if she was okay though after a simple explanation that she wasn’t feeling well, he didn’t push past that. Though… this was likely because Lexie started crying moments afterward needing her father’s attention. “Alright alright, I’m coming” Amie laughed, watching as the puppy tried to pull her shirt in an attempt to make her get out of bed.
Grabbing his leash, Amie led the dog outside - giving her dad a simple word of where she was going - before taking the walk out of her backyard and onto the beach. It was something she actually enjoyed about living on the beach, the simple proximity of walking a few steps and being on the sand. Though any serenity she felt disappeared when the little puppy pulled a little too hard and begin running away from her. “RASCAL” Amie yelled, chasing the dog for a few seconds, though sighing in relief after she found him stopping near someone.
The only problem… that someone was her ex… if… she could even call the man who was using her for 4 months that. “Get the hell away from him,” Amie started, walking up to the man who had her puppy in his hands. “Why are you here, Maxon? If I remember correctly, I told you to stay away from me.” she started, annoyance in her eyes. If the man didn’t have her dog in his hands, she would have already walked away by now and god… did she want to walk away.
