tap, tap, tap
Honestly, Ricky rather hear the sound of his own voice than that neverending tapping of Annie’s finger against the desk. Or even the ticking of the clock in the room. Maybe that’s why he had this urge to keep talking, even when Annie clearly didn’t want to listen. Though, in retrospect, people not wanting to listen to him had never stopped him before. Did he go a little far sometimes? Yes - how do you think he ended up in crutches in the first place. Either way, whether Annie followed him or not was a win-win situation. If she didn’t follow him - then he would no longer have to hear her constant backtalk which, albeit cute at first, was just getting rather annoying now. If she followed him, well, he had help getting sweet revenge on daddy dearest. “I don’t need luck, Williams. I have me.” Ricky said simply as a final sentiment as he left, well that alongside the thing about her parents. Yeahh… that was part of his going a little far but with good reason.
It wasn’t necessarily a surprise when he heard the louder taps of Annie’s foot indicating she was walking behind him. Was, In this sentence, being the operative word as she soon caught up to him with yet another remark - though a groan was soon elicited from his lips as she roughly hit his leg in the process. Was it on purpose… without a damn doubt but he was never one to give someone the pleasure of knowing they had given him even a tiny bit of pain. “Thanks…for that… but if that’s as helpful as you can be, I don’t exactly think I need you for this” he got out in a slight grunt before continuing to swing away. Not surprisingly, he heard her following with a warning about talking about her parents.
“Just do me a favor, Williams. Don’t mess this up, and I won’t say a thing about your parents… also, don’t follow too close,”
With that, Ricky went towards his father who was leaning against his car standing in the middle of the school grounds - clearly annoyed that Ricky had taken way longer than he had supposedly mentioned. “Hey dad… I just…” Ricky started, a saddened expression on his face as he walked closer to the man until he was standing right in front of him. “I’m sorry… I know I’ve been… messing up a lot recently with…everything but I appreciate you still… being here and standing by me,” Ricky stated as his father responded with something along the lines of appreciating his words with a tone of shock in his voice.
Ricky pulled his dad in for a hug, and while distracted, he removed the keys that were on his utility belt. Immediately, Enrique gave Annie a look as he put his hand out with the keys sitting on them, nonverbally instructing her to get in the car. Once she had grabbed the keys, Ricky accidentally dropped his book back with all the items dropping out so his father would help pick them up, and told the man he’d wait in the car - a car that already had Annie in the driver’s seat.
Everything moved fast after that moment, he told the girl “DRIVE” smiling as his father looked up at him in shock once the car started moving away. It was clear his father wasn’t happy, and trying to find his keys on his utility belt, it was noticeable that the said item was missing. “SEE YA LATER DAD” Ricky shouted as Annie drove away, the man being too far to hear what his father shouted after him. Incomprehensible mumbles which probably amounted to get back here Enrique Alejandro Montoya. Soon, despite whatever shouting that had faded in the distance, there they were, Mariana Williams driving the car on a highway while Ricky leaned back in his seat with a smile at all the cars near them that immediately slowed down. It was the fun of being in a cop car - people feared authority.
“Why don’t you say we start these lights up and go a little faster, Williams?”
