Dominic Lucier
Dominic stopped walking as he felt someone bump into him and he heard a voice apologize. “Don’t worry about it.” He said, turning around to see Kara, the girl that he’d photobombed on Valentine’s Day. “Yeah, I remember you.” He told her with a slight nod. “My name is Dominic.” He reminded her, putting his hands in his pockets. He stood in silence for a few seconds, trying to conjure up something to say. Before he could think of anything, it was time for the service to begin. “For the record, I never thought you were annoying.” He added as he left, referring back to what she’d said. He walked into the church, sitting down next to his parents.
He listened to the service, using the minister’s voice to keep his thoughts from pulling out the memories from four years ago, the same ones he’d been trying to ignore all day. Then one man stepped up to say a few words about Candice. Daniel Parker. His decision to speak made Dominic feel uneasy, knowing that this man probably had years of dirt on her. His suspicions were confirmed as Daniel revealed to everyone Candice’s eating disorders. He froze, stunned by this news. However, he was quickly brought out of it by the mention of his name. He listened to him speak, the air around him becoming heavier and heavier. At the revelation that Candice had caused Clara’s death, he heard his mother gasp and felt his dad put his hand on top of his. The mention of his sister caused the memories that he’d been trying to suppress all day to come flooding back and the air around him to get so heavy, it was hard for him to breathe. He stood up and walked straight to the exit, his body on autopilot as he opened the door without thinking and left the church. He sat down on a bench outside, his head in his hands as he tried to regain his composure.
