It had been a while since Sadie had seen everyone’s faces. She had spent weeks applying for scholarships and going in for interviews, in an attempt to reduce education costs in the future. As she knew, realistically, the lottery ticket money would never be able to pay for all they need. Due to the prolonged absence, she had been apprehensive about coming back. No, she knew that probably no one had noticed her not being there, she was more so nervous about how much things would have changed and how out of the loop she would be.

Aside from her worries, Sadie had missed everyone. Despite making the most effort to do so, she hadn’t been able to talk to everyone in the senior class, and it made her feel guilty. She had decided to dedicate this camping trip to meeting even more new people, as if she hadn’t been trying to do that since first joining Cerulean High already. Perhaps she would even be of help to them, as Sadie was no stranger to camping, going on them almost every year as opposed to the luxurious holidays her classmates would go on.

When arriving on the coach, Sadie had made a conscious effort to smile at everyone she walked past to get to her seat, and tried to interact as much as possible with the people around her. For a while, the coach was relatively quiet, with just the constant sound of murmuring. However, after a while there was a sudden uproar, and everyone’s attention was on one thing. The crowd of people blocked her view, but from the sounds, it was easy to infer what had happened.

The coach came to a stop shortly after that, tension still lingering amongst the crowd as Sadie exited the coach with them, going to take her bag as she looked in shock at the sizes of the ones around hers.

She was glad to hear about there being groups, as it would make it easier for her to interact and get to know specific people. When her name was called, she made her way over to Group 2 happy to see the familiar faces of Dorian DeLoughrey and Valerie Wood. But, soon enough, the person at the center of the conflict on the coach joined the group, and her attention immediately switched to him.

“Hey… Are you okay?” Sadie asked, not really too sure what the appropriate thing was to say in a situation like this one. “I don’t know much, if anything at all, about… the situation but–” She sighed as she realised she had probably chosen the wrong way to go about this. “I don’t know, I just wanted to… check?” She added, ending the last part as more of an uncertain question than a statement.
