Mikel hates to admit it but he was excited for school. He liked the routine of it and seeing people all day long opposed to his summer spent mainly alone. He hung out with friends a few times but his parents were always busy with some work thing and even though his dad tried many times to get him to go to work with him Mikel always said no which in turn caused a fight and then him and his father wouldn’t talk for two days. This happened multiple times. It is not his dream to take over the family business but he knows that his dad expect nothing less of him. Mikel wished he had gone to Paris to stay with his grandfather the whole summer and get away. He liked it there better. His grandfather got him and wasn’t a hard -ss like his dad was. He understood that Mikey wanted different things even if it meant the family business wouldn’t be in family anymore. It’s not like Mikel has any siblings either that could take it over. He was an only child. Being alone was never good for his head but he was trying to break his ‘party boy’ ways a bit this summer. Though he stopped drinking he still went out and did other things. It was the drinking that really messed with his head and caused him to hit lows again. The other things just usually heightened his emotions a bit more and if he was happy that was a good thing.
He rolled out of bed and immediately turned on some music which started blaring through his room. His room was a dark green on the walls, almost black with white trim which wasn’t his idea but the rest he did. There were records on one walls and his Polaroids on another, all black and white of course. He had his old stereo which had cassette tapes sitting a top it. All of his furniture and things in his room was mostly in old thrift shops or things people were giving away which infuriated his mom who was all about things matching and being of high end brands. He made his way to the shower and stood in there for what seemed like an ungodly amount of time. He was doing okay recently and it was just him thinking this. His therapist had told his parents the same thing and then his mom threw him a party. Though she couldn’t tell everyone what the party was for of course, then her friends would their her kid is a f-ck up, instead she said that Mikel had won some sort of photography contest. When people asked him to see his picture Mikel proceeded to show them one from a party of his friends butt. That usually ended the conversation.
He got himself dressed in a black t-shirt that was most likely dirty and a pair of jeans in which he rolled up slightly on purpose to his the fact that they were actually too short for him since how tall he is. He put on a necklace that once belonged to his great grandfather and his glasses and then grabbed his camera and bag before he left. He walked through the kitchen and the only thing that could be heard was his music still from his room which he hadn’t turned off. Never does. Silence isn’t his buddy. He grabbed a granola bar from the cabinet and walked out to the garage to his car. It was an 1989 Jeep Wrangler which was something his parents bought for him that he actually liked. They got it for him when he got back from his little vacation a few years ago. There was a pile of cassettes in the center council so he looked through them quickly before grabbing one out that had hashtags written in sharpie on it. Some of the cassettes were old one and originals while others he burned himself with newer songs.
As the song started to play he put the car in gear and started to drive. The older Jeep was a stick shift. When he got to school he rolled his eyes at all the expensive cars he saw in the lot already. All the privileged people in one place showing off daddy’s money. He got out and locked the door to his Jeep even though the windows were off and someone could easily get in and take it for a joyride. He held his camera in his hand as he walked into the school and looked around. Senior year. He was ready to leave this place and never look back. He saw Mamoud as he walked through the halls and was a little happy to see one of his friends. “Hey, how was your night?” He asked him with a smile as he got closer to him. The end of the night was interesting since the fire alarms went off and that basically sent everyone home.
