“Well you can wish for a giant pizza. That’s not what I would wish for.” Kai said as he let her finish the paperwork, knowing he had already taken care of the bill for the hospital visit. She tried to resist going to the hospital, but he made her, so she wasn’t going to spend a dime on it. Anytime anyone he knew had to go to the hospital, even if they could afford it, Kai would normally pay it for them. Then as Kai told Jess that he trusted her, he could see her smile. They’d come a long way from that first date where he cautiously listened to her, to where now he could easily say he trusted her. He was open with her in a way he wasn’t open with nearly everyone else. Jess was getting to see the side of Kai that his younger siblings and Valerie saw, the side where he wasn’t having to put on a front to the world, where he could be himself, whatever being himself actually was. With Jessica patched up and released he led her to the parked car, but before he could get in the drivers seat, she stopped him, pulling him into the back seat, first kissing him and letting her lips eventually reach his scar. Though, she did struggle with the button of his pants with only one hand usable.
“I probably should’ve told you about my birthday sooner.” Kai said as he brought his gaze from Jess to the front of the car. “As long as its not spicy tacos.” He paused, thinking about how she tried to get him to take her to IHOP instead. “Change clothes first, or pancakes?”
