“Do you think I wanted that? I fcking hated it”
Crossing her arms across her chest; Jess continued to look past his body to the students walking towards the football field. “I know you didn’t, Andy… trust me, I bloody know,” Jess mumbled. Part of her just wanted him to let her go. Life was just easier like that. “I don’t… know how to explain it okay,” she whispered, “I’m tired and I just can’t keep doing this,” she added even quieter. It was true; Jess was tired. Tired of everything that her life had accumulated to. It was just pain on top of more pain and sometimes she didn’t know how much more she could take.
Shaking her head as he continued; talking about how she couldn’t just take herself out of his life - she finally looked at him. “I’m sorry Andy, but I can and I will.” Jess muttered; swallowing the pain she felt when she was saying those words. She just… didn’t want him to get hurt because of her. And it seemed anyone she ever let in was in the line of fire. “I’m not a Walmart temp, you’re right, because I quit,” Jess continued; meeting his piercing gaze as she felt herself folding under it. “So stop… caring about what happens to me because I’ll let you in on a little secret, Andy, it doesn’t matter. Go back to your life,”
With that; she walked past him for a second time - her heart aching at the words she had just said but part of her knowing she was doing it for him. His life - his family didn’t need her. It never did and especially now he had more important things to be concerned over than her whims.
