Winter getaway with Mikel, Mamoud and Daniel was probably the best thing that could’ve happened to her. Or just the beginning of it. It was fun to spend some time away from everyone, to shop with Mamoud even if she felt bad because she wasn’t the one paying for all that stuff, to just relax and forget about things she didn’t want to think about. But not everything can have a happy ending. One thing led to another and she did something she thought she wouldn’t do in the near future. And it wasn’t something simple or stupid, it was serious and she could only hope her… friend could figure something out as soon as possible.
To make things worse, Calen was throwing a party and she really didn’t want to go. Saying she doesn’t want him around her wasn’t a joke. From the moment she got back home she tried to avoid her father as much as possible, not even being able to look her own mother in the eyes. And thinking about having to got school with Calen was enough to ruin her mood but what was she supposed to say? What kind of excuse could she come up with just so she could miss that party? “You’re not ready?” Looking up from her phone towards the door she left open, cuddled up with her fuzzy blankets, she saw Dorian leaning against it with crossed arms and slightly confused expression on his face. He was still upset with her leaving so suddenly, without saying anything but she was happy he didn’t want to mention it. It felt like he was just glad she was finally back and safe.
“I’m not going,” she mumbled, looking back at her phone, trying to think of something she could say. An excuse. “I’m sleepy,” she quickly added, putting on a fake and not so convincing smile as she pulled up one of her blankets, covering half of her face. She was never a good liar and she never tried to lie to her family, they knew her pretty well and knew exactly what her words meant. “Are you ok? Did you take-” Hearing Dorian’s concerned voice, she took a deep breath, throwing her blankets to the side and sitting up. “I am, don’t worry. Give me 30 minutes and we can go?”
She was quiet as Dorian was driving to the place, keeping her gaze glued to her phone but she could feel he wasn’t as excited as he pretended to be. It did confuse her, maybe something happened to him too while she was away. Or maybe he… knew? About their father. What if Calen told him? What if… no. If Dorian knew he would definitely cause a scene. Shaking those thoughts, she looked up at the place as they approached it, pleasantly surprised with it. It looked exactly like she imagined, even better than that. Getting out of the car and fixing her dress, she tried to prepare herself for possibly more unpleasant conversations before slowly following Dorian inside. But the moment they walked in she felt overwhelmed by everything. She didn’t want to be there, she didn’t want to have that many people around her, so without saying anything she separated from Dorian trying to find a less crowded spot.
