Luciano Ribeiro
For the most part, Luciano has never been the type of person who put much stock in teenage high school relationships, much unlike his sister who often thought every latest crush she had was someone who she was destined to be with. Needless to say, he’s seen her go through several heartbreaks over the course of their lives, some worse than others, and yet she never shied away from getting romantically involved with someone and falling hard each and every time. This attitude puzzled Lui, as it felt to him like she was setting herself up for heartbreak with her fast-paced relationships, which likely wouldn’t even last after high school. But she had once told him that she thought dating was like mining for diamonds—you didn’t know when or where you would find a diamond mine, but you’d keep mining in different places until you found them, because you know that one day you will find the diamonds that make all of the effort worth it. At the time, Luciano had laughed at her, thinking that she was just pulling it out of her åss.
But now, he understood. Gio was the diamond Lui had been lucky enough to stumble across. He was precious, rare and a treasure, his tesouro. While people like Aline had been actively digging for years, he was lucky enough to have met the boy by a chance encounter. Lucky enough to be here with him, holding his hand and feeling closer to him than he ever had before. He wasn’t usually someone who liked to express his feelings and emotions, but with Gio, it was all so easy. He actually wanted Gio to know what he meant to him and that he meant every word he spoke. He would do anything for this boy; he had been fairly protective of him before, as he was with all of his friends, but now he could feel the energy shifting into something fiercer.
“What did I ever do to deserve being this lucky?” Gio said softly. Luciano smiled, running a thumb over Gio’s knuckles in their clasped hands. “You’re you, tesouro, that’s all you needed to do,” he replied, glancing up at him to meet his eyes. Tesouro, treasure: and what Luciano thought was a fitting pet name for Gio since he was so special to him. The minutes he was spending here with him were perfect, part of a fantasy he had never thought would be brought to life. He treasured it, treasured him. Luciano wasn’t sure how things would go between them after today, but he was willing to fight for this relationship—it was much too valuable for him to lose.
Despite the perfection of the moment, an intruding thought crept into Luciano’s mind. He frowned slightly, looking from their hands to the closed door of the room. He glanced at Gio, a slightly saddened expression on his face. “This…” He gestured between the two of them. “This is going to have to be a secret, right?”
