The first thing that came to Tala’s mind, when her eyes set upon the new message notification on her phone, was Ruby. If she knew anything, that would be the fact that that girl won’t even try to at least think about going. This mutuality is probably one of the things that glued them together since childhood—staying home was better than being in a crowd.
Tala respects Ruby really well, but that did not mean she was going to respect her decision to not go to prom. If she was going, then so should she. Certain that the girl was still in her house, she dressed up into a pair of red jumpsuit. Tala was well-aware that she was supposed to wear something that’s not her type, but she couldn’t help but wince in disgust of herself wearing one when she was shopping for one. In the end, she still came home with a jumpsuit.
The doorbell to her apartment rung, and she immediately knew who it was. Making sure she forgot nothing, she grabbed her leather jacket and hurried up to the door and met Zion with a wide smile. “Hey, Zion!” Her eyes scanned their look; they looked stunning. “You look great,” she complimented, closing her door and pocketing her key card on in the pocket inside her jacket.
Realizing that they were probably going to ride on Zion’s vehicle, she scratched the idea of speeding up to Ruby’s house. “Actually, Zion, before we go to the prom… can we fetch a friend of mine?” she asked, “I swear it won’t take long—” She wasn’t sure of that, knowing how stubborn Ruby was in terms of something like a prom. “—it will be fast.”
Fortunately, Zion was kind enough to give her a favor. Screeching in excitement inside, Tala offered to drive the car so that they would reach the Danvers residence with haste. She rolled the window car when they arrived, and it wasn’t hard for the guard on duty to recognize her.
The guard shook his head, “No, ma’am. I believe she’s up in her room.”
“Figures,” She left out a giggle, “Wish me luck.”
Waving goodbye to the guard, she parked the car just outside the doorstep. Excusing herself from Zion, she hurried to the doorbell. No one answered, so she clicked the doorbell again. Where are their ma-? She was about to click the doorbell again when the door swung open; however, Tala had another idea. Smiling at the maid that greeted her, she bowed with a “Sorry” and ran away.
She searched for the way towards the side of the house where Ruby’s room was, picking up a small pebble from where she stood and throwing it there. She picked up more, but after her second throw, she realized she could break the glass; covering her mouth as she laughed at her mistake, she looked around and her grin widened when she saw the sight of a convenient ladder.
Hurrying up, she placed it right in front of Ruby’s window. She took her sneakers (yes, sneakers; she’s styleless) off, and climbed on the ladder. There she is… she thought in triumph as she saw Ruby… watching a movie. Tala’s brow rose when she realized how dark the room was. What is she doing?
She attempted to open the window, but it was locked. So, for the sake of her not falling any second early, she hit her knuckles on the window in quick succession, hoping to alert Ruby of her rather unique presence.
