Emma Wycliff
Any remorse Emma felt for stepping on the prince instantly washed away as he implied Emma had been raised by wild animals and said that she should go to the garden, presumably to get lost or do something animal like, the metaphor didn’t make sense but it was enough to infuriate Emma.
“I’ll have you know that-!” Emma began in response to the prince’s smirk, but it was too late, the prince had already turned away. The other guests around them turned to look at Emma, to see who dared raise their voice at the Prince, even if it was just slightly, in such a formal setting.
That’s it. I’m leaving. Emma thought as tears began to fill her eyes. She hadn’t even had her first dance yet and already embarrassed herself, and presumably her family as well.
Silently, Emma put her head down and pushed back what felt like hundreds of people to get to the doors. She went through the long hall and found the garden before she took off her tight shoes and began running, and kept running, just like the Prince had requested, until she could run no longer, stopping just before she hit a grassy fence.
Emma wanted to cry and scream all at once. She wanted out. Out of this life she was born into. Just out and away from everything.
