“O-Okay…” Rain said, still not letting go of Jane. “Y-You’ll ride with me?” She asked Jane, her eyes wide like a little kid asking to bunk in their parents’ room.
“I was going to go ride in the woods with the more advanced riders, but I can definitely stay back with you so you feel safe.” I said. “Come on. Let’s go get helmets and riding gear on and find a horse.”

Rain nodded timidly and went along with Jane to get helmets and gear. Once they were both ready, she followed Jane to the stables. She made sure to stay in the center of the hall, away from the stall doors lining the walls on either side, and stay behind Jane just in case. Just being close to Jane made Rain feel safer. They looked around until they came to the end of the stables, where three promising looking horses waited: A grey mare, a younger white and brown mare, and a dappled stalion. “Which one?” Rain asked.
“Hmmm…since you’re a beginner you should ride a mare because they’re much calmer than the stallions. How about the grey one? The older ones have more experience and are gentler.”

“I like that one. She’s pretty.” Rain slowly approached the grey mare a patted her muzzle. She turned to Jane. “Like you.”
My face turned red, the back of my neck burning. “T-thanks…y-you too…so, shall we get her saddled up?” I asked, unlocking the door and leading the mare out.

Rain nodded and helped Jane put the saddle on, humming her newest composition as she did. Once they were done, she was able to carefully mount the mare after a fair bit of struggling. She clung onto the horn of the saddle for dear life and waited impatiently for Jane as the other campers began riding off into the distance. “Hurry, hurry!” She urged Jane playfully.
Today, everyone was going horseback riding. Natalia had done some as a child, although she never particularly enjoyed doing it. She had kind of missed doing it, however. She also wasn’t dressed particularly well for riding, but she preferred looking nice. She got into the group for the advanced riders and looked at all the horses, trying to decide which one was the best.

Colette was in the stables with the others. She headed to the group of experienced riders. While looking at each horse, she saw Natalia standing beside her.
She turned towards her to talk to her. “Natalia,” she called her. “We met at the welcome party two days ago,” she smiled at her and continued looking at horses.

Colette walked along with the group of experienced riders. Natalia wondered how good of a rider she was. “Natalia, we met at the welcome party two days ago.” She was looking at the horses and looked incredibly prepared with a riding outfit. “Colette! I remember you. How are you doing?”

“I’m doing okay, I guess…” she shrugged funnily and laughed. “What about you?” she asked. Colette started to make small talk, because, why not? She didn’t like it, but this was pretty nice.

“Oh, I’m doing well. Horseback riding sounds fun. Do you ride a lot?” She walked around to the other side of a horse, figuring out whether the horse would be good for riding. If only I could have some photographers to catch this whole trip. Being away from a camera just… feels strange.

“That’s good," she smiled at her. “I did horseback riding for I guess 2 years…? But it’s been a really long time, so I gotta see if I remember how to ride.”
“Do you also ride a lot?” she asked. Colette noticed her looking at the horses, “Which horse do you like so far?”

“Two years? That’s impressive. I only did it for a little over a year a while ago. It would’ve been when I was a young kid. Let’s hope the path isn’t too difficult.” Natalia smiled at Colette.
“Which horse do you like so far?”
“Well, they all seem nice. I’m not really sure how to tell whether or not a horse is good for riding on. This one’s very pretty.” Natalia walked to the front of the horse and pet it. It had long, brown hair that reminded her of her own hair.

“With me. Please.” Rain said, trying not to sound too desparate. She patted the space on the saddle next to her.
“Ok. I’ll get in front and you just hold on to my back.” I said, mounting the horse and grabbing the reins. “I’m going to make the horse walk, ok?” I asked.

“We have to wait and see if it’s an easy path," she shrugged and smiled. “This one’s an Irish Draught, if I remember correctly… This is the one that I had.” she gestured towards white horse with grey-ish spots.
“I guess this is pretty good. You can go with this if you want.” she suggested.
