Hey guys, this is a thread to share and gain character inspiration!! Share here what you’re having trouble with or need help and others (and me of course) will try our best to share tips and help you guys out :hibiscus: Please use this to your advantage, especially if you’re really stuck :wink: I’m making a tumblr faceclaim library to be used soon and help you guys, if you have any models with names/general faceclaims to submit, share them in details thingy.

Tip #1 : Musical Characters

Take a playlist, yours, a friends, anyone’s and put it on shuffle. Close your eyes and listen to the song playing and than make a character based off of that song.

For example: I’m making a character based off of 7 rings by Ariana Grande

Key details

  • She obviously has some money

    • “Black card is my business card” ; “Write my own checks like I write what I sing” ; “My reciepts be looking like phone numbers”

  • She is extremely loyal and close with her friends

    • she’s a trusting person once you get close to her
      • “I’d rather spoil my friends with my riches”

  • She is obbsessed with money

    • “Happiness is the same price as red bottoms,”; “Whoever said money can’t solve your problems must not have enough money to solve it”

  • A little extra, prideful

    • "Look at my neck, look at my jet, ain’t got enough money to pay me respect

  • Spoiled

    • “I want it, I got it” ;

Filling in the Weak Spots

Often if you roleplay with the same archetypes of character it gets hecka boring. So look through the FCs. Maybe they have a lot of flirts, make a quiet/stoic type. Maybe everyone is rich or poor, make a middle-class person. Maybe everyone for some reason likes to party, make someone who tends to shy from the scene.

This holds true for diversity! There are probably lots of females, make some maless~ So many white people isn’t realistic in many places RPs are set it :scream: put in some POCs! Koreans, Chinese, African-Americans, Arabs and so on

Find what the minority is whether in personality or looks and make someone with those traits!

I’m going to try to make a character’s personality by using this method.

Song- Someone to you by banners.

•Wants to be remembered.
“ I don’t wanna die or fade away”
“ I just wanna be someone”

•Falls in love fast.
“ I wanna be the one you’re guiding
'Cause I believe that you could lead the way”

•Feels lonely/abandoned.
“ I never had nobody and no road home”

I’m definitely going to be using this method in the future whilst creating characters.

Trait Dump.

If you’re really struggling and want to make a good character but something that you haven’t done before, it’s quite easy. You can head to the roleplay/writing community you’re writing with/for or under and simply say, “Give me 3 traits you first think of.” And wait for a response, if needed show the character faceclaim and name. Another way to do this is head to a few generators, “personality” or “trait” generators, spin it a few times and save what you get from it, then if you have the basic archetype or outline of a character you can start building it. Really think about why they are this way or how did they come to be like this.

See, I can’t take this seriously since that’s Jason from Heroes of Olympus and I think about his traits. Sometimes choose a faceclaim or picture of someone that’s not really well-known.

Okay, just needing a little inspiration for something, in the hopes of the beginning steps for me, to try get back into writing/finding motivation. You know, just trying things out. But anyway, this is some information that is not needed and I should just get on with it. Okay…

Take from Life

All the bests characters are relatable, take characters from life, from disabilities, people you know or events that you’d want to play out on what would be an otherwise boring character. I often like to go through historic events in roleplays that have characters from all across the time line or that are immortal and have them live through a certain time in life. Some good characters to write about are characters that did the opposite of what another would do. I often find that interesting to pursue, I took one my characters who experienced judgement and isolation and she became a people pleaser and always ready to do something to get people to like her. I took another character in a similar situation down a different direction, instead she’s moody, closed off and sullen. Things affect different characters (just like people) in different ways.
