Now that is a good reason.
It was more scathing than even I thought it would be.
Those books are a freaking mess
Yup. It’s just ugh ![]()
Yas gurl ![]()
Yes, yes they are. Which is one of the reasons why whoever wrote them never shoulda wrote them. I mean I get that some people enjoy them (for whatever reason) but im pretty sure if its for the supposed erotic factor there are better books out there for that.
Lol the author of 50 shades ruined the films. The first one was alright given the source material, but she fired the director and the writer because they were changing the story to make it make more sense and hired her husband instead
Apparently she threw actual hour-long tantrums on set and screamed at the director in front of the cast
And that is what I like to call an adult toddler. That was an idiotic move on her part, why would she fire the director and writer just because they were making her story have more of a storyline.
I’m asexual yet I think sex is fine if used and portrayed correctly.
Romance and drama.
I also like fantasy and action.
Yeah, that makes sense.
It’s like. I’m not asexual, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being asexual. I love writing my asexual character, actually, she’s great xD
I still love thriller stories. They’re amazing.
Fantasy, Action, Adventure, and Mystery
Erotica!! Lmao just kidding, I’d say drama or mystery. ![]()

Science fiction is my all-time favorite genre!
I read that as h*rny, lol.
I’d say it’s very hard to choose the best genre. Every book is written differently. Some are poorly, others are great. It depends on the author, the story, how it’s written, etc.
Uhm fantasy and horror I guess because I like to think that it’s real even though I know ,in the back of my head, that it’s not
I did too after I wrote it, which is why I added the thing at the bottom lol. (My delete button is broken, otherwise I would have fixed it)
…Why didn’t you just edit your post so it said horror though? ![]()
Ok I’m gonna give you my choice and my reasons now that I’ve read a few. Please feel free to defend your choice! We can turn this into a very interesting debate!
I choose fantasy
And not just because I’m a fantasy writer. I mean, I am, but it’s way more than that! I think it takes a great deal of creativity, patience and imagination to create a fantasy story. You’ll often have to think of the magic system, the way that the world differs from ours and, if it’s high to middle fantasy, you’ll have to do a great deal of world building. In fact, even low fantasy needs a lot of creative solutions to help us figure out how magic has been hiding in plain sight of the real world!
A lot of the classics throughout history would be classed as fantasy if they were written now. The Ryme of the Ancient Marriner. The Tempest. A Midsummer Night’s Dream. And even as a Christian, I can say that Paradise Lost would count! A lot of old stories contained supernatural, mystical or downright magical elements because magic is so creative. It’s free of the constraints that humans give it!
It can also be married very well with most other genres. Horror and fantasy work very well together. Of course, most fantasies have a romantic element. Then you have sci-fi. They sound like they’re too similar to be married, but technically Star Wars is more fantasy than sci-fi and we know it as a sci-fi!
And, of course, a lot of the more modern fantasy classics helped pave the way for most of the important stories in our world today. The Lord of the Rings inspired so many writers. And not just George RR Martin and J.K. Rowling! I mean modern comic books. The way we tell stories in general. I mean, Tolkien was the first person to make up a whole language for a story! And he didn’t stop at one!
Worldbuilding and creativity aside, one of the most wonderful things fantasy does for me is enable you to take the issues that matter to you out of the context and critique them from a place of distance. Racism in the West is always going to be a sticky subject that’s going to polarise people. But remove it from the context of the real world and put it into a world that doesn’t exist? Well, suddenly people don’t feel so defensive and they can have a proper discussion about what these things mean to them. Then when you ask them to apply it to the real world, they can do so with a whole new perspective. Think of how much some atheists love Narnia, even though it’s clearly very Christian! Same with The Lord of the Rings!
Long story short, I argue that fantasy is the best genre
This is why I write a fantasy story with an action-adventure plot. Fantasy is incredibly complex and malleable, there’s so much you can do with it and so much that’s still to be done with it, it’s fair enough honestly that it very well could be the best out there.
I stand by my argument, of accessibility personally, though. Action-adventure can be attributed to most other genres, but you can still differentiate it incredibly well.
I loved your essay <3
You might’ve just changed my mind about the best genre. That was a nice little essay.
