the first character and best friend who came into my mind were Chris and Alexei (@bisou) from Exousía, so i’ll go with them
Alexei is sneaky and extremely clever, very good at reading people while being the kinda guy who works backstage most of the time
that said, he can be a little sh-t when he wants, and even cruel if he needs to

Kalina:
Kalina’s best friend is Aurian, one of the other main characters. They met in an orphanage after she lost her parents, and they grew instantly close, bonding over both having the ability to use magic. They later on found out he was the lost heir to the throne, which changed him from being the lonely outcast who was made fun of, always unwanted as a child, and feeling powerless, to someone overconfident, arrogant, popular, and eventually cruel and power hungry.
Kalina still sees him as the child she first met. When it was the two of them against the world. Even if they don’t always agree with certain policies and actions.
Phoenix:
Nix’s best friend is a man named Kota. They’ve known each other since they were small children, and through their teenage years they had a bit of a friends with benefits relationship. He’s always been one of the only people Nix has trusted (alongside his own mother and Kota’s stepsister Asa. Then as an adult Kalina was added to that short list) Kota is hard of hearing (deaf in his right ear) and taught Nix some sign language. And he was practically adopted into Nix’s family (Nix’s mom considers him an extra son) Kota is someone who always tries to lighten the mood when things get too serious, and a supportive friend, but not afraid to tell nix when he’s doing something stupid.
