Discussion: Is Something Being Repeated Over and Over? šŸ¤”

Is it just me or is something being repeated over and over? I am not saying this just about Episode, but about writing books, tv, even movies. I feel like something is just being repeated over and over. I want something new and different with some originality. With some touches of reality. Also, I want the pilots to be attracting, so Iā€™d like to read the story. I donā€™t know what about you, but pilots with (rethorical) questions arenā€™t attracting at all :unamused:. At least, in my eyes. Some of these pilots just sounded to me like cliches .

About Episode:

I feel like something is being repeated in terms of main ideas, charactersā€™ looks, genres, diversity - I donā€™t know. I feel that many, and I mean many authors repeat the same thing, like the things that I mentioned above. Even the authors who are minorities do it. I donā€™t know what about you, but I havenā€™t seen much different stories (expect 3-5). I am sick of the whole bad boys and gangs/mafias thing.
In addition, although I donā€™t know how common bully-victim romance stories are, but in my eyes they arenā€™t romantic at all :unamused: (well, I am not a typical who likes romance, butā€¦).
I am not trying to come and say ā€œdonā€™t write mafia/gang/bad boys, etc. stories at all!ā€, but if you already want to write a mafia story, for instance, then make it different, instead of repeating the same idea - you know, many mafia stories are about romance between a woman and a gang leader, and I have already gotten bored with it :confounded::expressionless:. If already write a mafia story with some romance, you can write about a person whose family runs a mafia and he doesnā€™t want to have anything to do with that lifestyle, and he runs away in order to live ordinary life without killing anyone, for example.

What I want is to see different stories with an interesting pilot, diversity, and maybe with some originality.

What do you think? Do you agree or disagree?
Feel free to share your thoughts. :grinning::blush:

Please be respectful when you state your opinion. You donā€™t have to agree with me and I am not coming after anyone. I am just stating my opinion. So, even though my opinion or othersā€™ might disagree with yours, please respect my and othersā€™ opinion.
Thank you.

While I agree with the idea of things being a little samey. Stories that are almost the exact same are pretty abound these days. But rwhy thatā€™s happening is pretty simple. More people have easier access to releasing more stories. Thatā€™s a good thing on paper for sure, it can just lead to heavy saturation in practice.

What I disagree with is the obsession with originality these days. Donā€™t get me wrong, if someone has an original idea they should absolutely run with it. Itā€™s justā€¦ I dunno. A lot of critics rag on things for ā€˜not being different enoughā€™. I donā€™t agree with that being the metric for a good story. Using an established structure or idea to base your story on, then pushing beyond or free of it can be even more effective than something new.

I just like the saying that you canā€™t perfect something new

When I said ā€œwith some originalityā€, I didnā€™t mean to say that all the stories should be with it. Of course not. But, I think itā€™d be nice to see one or two. You get what I am saying?

You are right about it. No one can and donā€™t need to perfect something new. The main thing is to make something new and different, even if at some point it is not different.

Oh no, yeah I fully get what you were saying. I was just kinda shouting at the sky if you know what I mean.

A cliche is a trope thatā€™s often used. Like an archetype. I take English classes and read a lot soā€¦ Thatā€™s why I know about this stuffā€¦ 5+ years of English will do that to you

I got it

Like, a mean girl would be a cliche, but it can also be kinda be an archetype.

@ChaoticDeluge, may I ask: which part of two threads of mine did you change (including this one)?

Absolutely! Just where they are, this is now in the General Chat - Discuss section

Iā€™ve just been spending a bit of time moving things around, mod stuff >.<

Donā€™t worry, Iā€™m not going around editing peopleā€™s posts

These cliche stories just donā€™t stop :confounded: like ok we have experienced all the types of cliche, weā€™ve had enough. Add some originality plz itā€™s been 2 years since i read a proper story.

As for episode character appearances I think itā€™s something that you have to get over, there is only limited options, sure quite a lot more than there used to be, but still limited, so there is only so much that can be created differently. As with all styles you will see many the same in different stories.

I donā€™t think there is anything wrong with using cliches, I think itā€™s how you work them in your story. If you stick to a cliche 100% and donā€™t bother to make it your own then sure it can get old. But if you create enough back story and personality in there to build your own world then I think it can be a really good story.

Of course I would love to see some originality in there. I try to make all of my stories, on and off episode, as strong as I can even if they incorporate cliches.

A lot of things are perceived as the same, if they are viewed that way by yourself too, if you choose to read a story that you think has a pretty common description or summary, then instead of looking for the similarities with other stories, view it as a new story, look for the differences and uniqueness that that author has put into the story, have a fresh set of eyes on it. You might find that itā€™s not always as similar as you first thought. Also switch it up a bit and maybe read things that at first you wouldnā€™t immediately be drawn to. Sometimes you find a real gem in the most unlikely of places. :slightly_smiling_face:

I go through phases so I personally am happy that there are similar stories out there. I remember a couple years ago I was into teacher romances and read like 6 in a month. Then I went through a boss phase and read a few of them, and went looking for moreā€¦
People write what they like and what will be read.
Most plots have been done. If they havent been done, itā€™s probably because nobody is interested in that. (Not always)

At the same time, I understand. Be unique. :+1:

I like stories with original themes behind them, preferably fantasy becau s wrists just my prefferance.

Loads of best sellers are original ideas that arenā€™t based on anything thatā€™s been done before so that may be a hint that if you want to succeed then perhaps you ne d to brainstorm your own plot, ideas and even world. Make something unique no matter how crazy!

But this doesnā€™t mean that people should use the same 5 features continuouslyā€¦

Thatā€™s your opinion, fine, personally I think people should feel free to make what they want. No matter how many others make the same or use those features.
Itā€™s their story, their choice, their preference. I for one donā€™t often use certain lip shapes because I donā€™t like them. Or hairstyles because I donā€™t like them, I wonā€™t be feeling pushed to not use what I want, if itā€™s my story.
