Imagine saying using the term African Anerican is up to the individual when it’s a literal ethnic group people are apart of and shouldn’t be used frivolously on others not apart if it just because they’re black.:heart_eyes::heart_eyes:

It’s weird when people automatically assume mixed race.

I’m Bangladeshi British but that doesn’t make me half white, half Bangladeshi.

I find it very strange when people use American to assume all white people are American.

Yes! Caramel is beautiful! I’m just a tad darker though.

As a brown woman, I have to say that there’s this idea sweeping over the Wattpad community that’s really starting to annoy me – and to some extent worry me!

People are telling writers to not use certain food terms to describe skin colour. They say stick to words like “brown” or “dark brown” and some people say that we should stick to more nature-based words rather than “toffee” or “mocha”.

I disagree patently. I’m sick of people acting like this is a viable thing to police. They say that it sexualises people of colour. I say that it portrays their skin colour as something nice and enjoyable in a world where whiteness usually defines beauty. That, and also “brown” is a vague af term. Toffee and mocha are both brown, but different types of brown. And then there’s the lack of poeticism to it. It’s boring!

I’d say you’re near or around a nicely mixed caramel latte.

Going by the colour of your skin and just because it’s the tastiest coffee beverage :eyes:

I get so annoyed with this-

Yes I’m bi-racial, but that doesn’t mean- ackkkk

That’s why we have Blasian, Afro-Latina

It’s kind of annoying, I mean like when they call me African-American, thinking that it means biracial, the fact that they are correct (As I am African-American) is just coincidental. People need to be educated in this.

How is that sexualizing?

I like it when people go into detail about darker skin. It’s nice.

Adverts sexualise food nowadays so we’re just mixing our metaphors into oblivion now

“I’d love to lick/taste some of that toffee babe” – but if you’re not going to make it sexualised, it isn’t sexualised on its own!

I used to accidentally say ‘rich dark skin’ and ‘pale skin’ with my character descriptions :'3

White people are boring and dark skin is more fun to describe okay. I like describing both, but one is cooler okay leave me alone
