OMG we live pretty close ![]()
rn Iām in Enkhuizen
Tho middays I live in Haarlem now thatās so funny, I have a friend who lives in Abbekerk
Ooh, nice, you actually are pretty close! Not sure if she still lives there tho, as thatās the place she was born ![]()
probably not, itās a small town (VERY SMALL)
Looks like it yeah on the few pictures I saw when googling, I bet she is located in Amsterdam area right now
Also, I hope you donāt take my opinions on her accent personal as you are from the same area
As Gelderlander Iām just used to quite a different accent ![]()
whaha I have a west fries accent and I donāt think I have that much of an accent but yeah you donāt know unless someone tells you to.
Ooh, interesting! And yeah, thatās true, everyone has an accent, and since you mostly only are around people with that accent it just becomes normal for you. But everyone has an accent, like even today I got asked by someone where I am from since they though I had an accent ![]()
(This is going slightly off topic now tho
)
Okay, Iām just gonna write something pretty personal. Iāve been kinda going through a difficult time, so the reason I am this excited about eurovision this year and like invest time in it is that it has been a great distraction for me. Like even if it sounds a bit crazy, it helped me be a bit happier at some moments to just have something fun to do for a few minutes a day. Also just because there really are some amazing songs this year and I love music in general tho ![]()
Tbf I donāt hear a difference in accent in haarlem or Enky
Oh no for sure, I know what yiu mean, music can really help and a music event like this is just what people need ESPECIALLY now.
True, like there is barely even a difference in accent between letās say Nijmegen and Apeldoorn. But even if it doesnāt sound like it to me, itās still an accent.
Agreed yes, besides my personal reasons why the last month basically has been awful, in general it has been a crazy last 2 years with covid, and now with the war itās so much more important. Like eurovision was originally organised to bring European countries closer together and unite through music, and I feel like that message will become very clear this year. (Tho, this might sound a bit messed up, but I would be slightly disappointed if Ukraine wins this year only because of the war. I like their song, but honestly itās definitely not the best)
Weāll see, I kinda had hoped that Russia was allowed to go just to show unity but I understand why they arenāt
I can see that yeah, and in a way it would have been good. Not all Russians should be punished for basically the stupid decisions of one man, especially those that donāt have any connections with the Kremlin. But I feel like in a way its also best for the safety of who would have been the Russian entry. They would get so much hateā¦
Listening to this song now
Still sooo disappointed this isnāt the Finnish entry. This is such a catchy song in Finnish, which I donāt think weāve heard in eurovision for a while. I think if they would have sent this they could have finished top 10 two years in a row, but guess Finnish people hate their language as much as we do in the Netherlands ![]()
Conclusions now all songs have been released:
- 2022 is a very strong year in my opinion, there are some bad songs cough Moldova cough, but there are so many songs I actually love.
- So many ballads, some better than others, but in general there are a lot of slow songs. So I think uptempo songs will actually have a better chance to reach the final this year.
- The order in which they will perform will decide so much this year I think, since 2 ballads in a row can really kill chances.
- Semi final 2 is a lot stronger than semi final 1. Some of my favourites will probably not make it to final because of that.
- The big 5 surprisingly seem to all have pretty decent songs actually.
- Love all the languages, we will be hearing: English, Italian, Dutch, Spanish, Breton, Ukrainian, Serbian, Latin, Albanian, Icelandic, Slovenian, Greek, Lithuanian and Moldovan. Really nice collection of languages

- I think there is not really one song thatās a 10/10 for me personally, the staging and live performances will be deciding that. Same for whoever will qualify, there are a lot of maybes.
- The very first song I heard, is funnily enough still my #1.
Germany has really been growing on me recently, those lyrics really hit and nearly made me cry⦠Also, there is some 21 pilots vibes in his song, that I can really appreciate (and funnily enough 21 pilots actually is his favourite band). At first I thought Germany had picked the wrong song and anxiety would have done much better, but actually I think rockstars has so much more uniqueness and depth to itā¦
Wow.
Thatās⦠definitely horrible.
I found Rise Like A Phoenix through a k-drama thread on Soompi forums⦠beautiful song!
sigh
Iāve also noticed that not many performances are in the countryās native language, is that a preference?
Horrible for sure yeahā¦
Ngl, I was a bit salty about it winning that year as the Netherlands came second. But in the more recent years Iāve been appreciating the song and what it stands for much more.
Doesnāt seem to be getting better either, with the recent electionsā¦
Well, originally it was a requirement to sing in the native language. Since 1999 any language is allowed (I believe there even has been a song in a non existent made up language
). So now all countries can choose, this year I believe 17/40 songs are at least partially in a native language. I personally think non English songs are pretty rad and also what eurovision is about in a way, more countries should submit songs in their native language and share their culture that way in my opinion. And they donāt even do bad, 3 out of the last 5 winners were not English
So yeah, I am proud the Netherlands has actually submitted a proper Dutch song, it had been way too long
This difference breaks my heart ![]()
The studio version
Vs
A live performance
I want her too do well so badly, cause I love the studio version but it just hurts she canāt do that on stage
If she would have been better live she would have possibly been in my top 10, hope she can still fix that before eurovision
Cause itās not like she canāt sing, she actually is super talented.
Hey, at least she was better today
Still far from great or the studio version though
Love these acoustic and like more cozy versions of all the songs (and others) so much. And love Brookeās a lot there, I hope she will be able to deliver that on stage
Latvia - Pretty much the same as the always
Ireland - rad, honestly love it more than the studio version
France - oooh, actually hearing their voices and how they harmonised is rad
North Macedonia - a bit too shouty for my opinion. But I hope she will take backup singers to Turin
Switzerland - I have liked this song since the beginning. Severly underrated and I think will be a shock qualifyer. He has an interesting voice and can actually sing well, hope it will connect on the big stage
Sweden - I think Iāve heard this version before. I actually like it better than in the national final. Her voice is way less cracking and irritating to me.
(Slovenia isnāt the eurovision song but I just wanted to say I fell in love this song)
