[ Orwell checked an alarm clock sitting on a shelf nearby- fiddlesticks and fish! So much time seemed to have had passed-though the being late probably didn’t help much. They stood up, looking around at the classroom of students. They seemed to be having nice conversations with each other-just like Orwell was having with Ell and the pretty white-haired girl who had just spoken up. However, they should probably announce their lesson plans before things got even more carried away. Orwell clapped their hands together, in a rythem, creating a slippery slapping sound. Clap, clap-clap-clap-clap, clap clap! It was something they heard from other teachers. Often, students would clap back in the same manner, then stop talking so they could listen to what the teacher had to say. ]
[ Orwell began shortly after. “Hi, guys!! I’m sure you all want to know what we’re going to be doing today-don’t worry! We’re getting there! Today, we’re going to be doing something super fun-baking!” Orwell gestured to bags and cartons gathered near the front of the room. “We’re making bread! But not just any bread…” A more scholarly tone mixed with the usual bubbly one. “Usually, bread needs yeast in order to rise. But…we are going to be substituting yeast for pixie dust!” Orwell grinned. “Before you start, please write your hypothesis-whether you think pixie dust will have a similar effect to yeast, or if you think it will do something completely different!” They waved their hands through the air excitedly. “Then, gather your supplies-there are recipe sheets on my desk! I gathered some chocolate and vanilla chips, in case you want to add some flavor to your bread!! I know you guys probably love sugar-who doesn’t!” Orwell was rambling now. “You can work in partners or by yourself! Make sure to record everything in your notebook!” Orwell reminded. That was how the students would be graded. ]
[ The students who had been writing their hypotheses while Orwell rambled shifted to the front of the room to get their supplies first, while others began to write. Orwell sat down again, grinning at the students, proud of themselves and their announcement. “I hope you guys like bread!! Say, do you want to be partners? We can all make bread together!!” They offered. ]
