She was extremely curious as to why Cotton was so dead-set on teaching Mei how to do a chignon. She raised an eyebrow as Cotton continued her explanation, which Mei felt was a little unnecessary as she could very obviously see the chignon Cotton was wearing, but Mei was near positive Cotton had no malintent in her over-explanation so Mei kept quiet. “Why…” she didn’t know what to say. She sighed and shook her head, lifting her shoulders as she did so. “Seeing as you’re so passionate about the subject, I suppose there’s no harm in learning how to do one. Perhaps… it will prove as a useful way to tie up my hair in battle.” Though her thought process was unorthodox, the idea behind it was genuine.
Mei let out a small chuckle and tilted her head slightly to her right. “Who said I wasn’t stressed?” Mei was only slightly offended. Did Cotton really think that she was just some run-of-the-mill girl who had everything easy and handed to her on a silver platter? “Sometimes we need to make a sacrifice to achieve things. If you’re expected to do something, you’ll do it. That’s how life works. There’s no room in the Halls of the Great for those who didn’t risk anything and instead spent their prime years doing nothing of consequence.”
She had to admit, Mei needed help with fashion. She had never managed to dress herself for social gatherings as the colors clashed or some other unimportant and ridiculous social rules were thrown upon her. “Well… that is certainly interesting. I suppose we all have our own strengths. Say… there are often more professional things that I need to attend and I could definitely improve as choosing outfits and accessories. Perhaps you could go to the town with me and help me find some clothes that would be good for said occasions? I’m sure we could work out some way for me to repay you.”
