He was holding his breath. His cheeks appeared fuller, his eyes full of intensity as he awaited his answer. Which would certainly be “yes”. Why wouldn’t it be? Garçon was a friendly guy-his tone betrayed no such thing as snobbery, or rudeness. His eyes shimmered, his bright, perfect smile shone like a white wall. And the way he carried himself-who wouldn’t be happy to let him sit at their table, earning themselves a great new friend? But the boy’s sharp, sarcastic tone interrupted his self-praise. ”No, my invisible friends are sitting here. This is Adelaide. She’s kinda shy.” Eyes as deep as Garçon’s flicked to the side as he introduced one of the “friends” that sat at the empty tale. Their eyes met again and that same sparkly, flickering feeling traveled through every part of Garçon once more, making his heart feel like it would burst from all the beating. His hands drummed lightly on the sides of the tray, which marked the seat he wanted. Garçon was not one to give up so easily, despite the fact that the mysterious carnival stranger did not want him around. His slightly deflated ego would’ve brought him much more pain if it weren’t for his thumping chest and the ecstasy that reuniting with the boy in front of him brought. This feeling pushed away the hurt, lining the boy’s words in shimmering silver, bringing an easygoing grin to Garçon’s handsome face, a light chuckle filling the air around them.

He looked towards the empty space, smiling in a devastatingly charming way. “It’s an absolute pleasure to meet you, Adelaide. No need to be shy, I promise I don’t bite. At least not in public.” A glance back in the visible boy’s direction betrayed who he really wanted to be flirting with. “Anyone else I should know about?” He raised a playful, questioning eyebrow. And after a moment, he made a bold suggestion. “You, perhaps? My name is Garçon Fils Le Mec.” How he itched to know the stranger’s name. For so many nights, he laid imagining encounters with a man he hardly knew, a man he only knew the face of. He needed to know what name matched the face he had been envisioning for so long. By then, the boy had offered a somewhat wary smile, saying the seat was (obviously) free. Garçon gave a much friendlier (and toothier) smile, nodding as he relaxed his posture and reached for his meal. He was hungry.
