“I must confess I have rarely traversed anywhere, I’d say the farthest I’ve ever gone is… well, to this school,” Hadrian said, which made Valentina frown slightly and tilt her head. Even though they then added that they preferred not to travel and to stay where they “needed to be”, Valentina wondered if this was a cover-up for their true thoughts, maybe they really did long to travel. “Well, you’re here now at least! Maybe we can travel this break! And this school has so much to offer-have you seen the beach yet? Or the forest?” She suggested optimistically. Hadrian tilted their head as she talked about romance-which made her flush slightly-had she been too obvious? “Romantic, you say?” She nodded at this, trying to disguise how eager she was, but failing. At the mention of her favorite topic, she felt even brighter and more excited than she already did. “I suppose I can see that, though I’ve never been big on ‘romance’. I’ve never truly seen the need for it, it seems more troublesome than beneficial.” Valentina frowned deeply at this-romance and love were the best things in the world! “Troublesome? I mean, I guess it can be a bit… but if you work through it…” She sighed dreamily, resting her head in her hands. “It’s the best feeling in the world.” She looked at Hadrian-“It’s definitely a necessity. Have you never experienced romance before, then?” She asked intrusively.
“Mm, after all, being an Olympian descendant must make you quite fearsome in your own right.” She quickly shook her head, strands of pink moving from her face. “I hope not! I’d never want anyone to fear me…” Hadrian laughed, “Ah, what a fascinating ability, and yet you refuse to use it out of a sense of nobility. I must commend you on encouraging more natural love, rather than an artificial one.” Valentina beamed at the compliment-glad they believed her. Blushing modestly, she replied, “Of course! Natural love is so important to me…I’d never want to encourage anything artificial…Besides, shooting people is kinda…” She made a face-it definitely wasn’t her. “It can be hard to get people to fall in love ‘naturally’, but it’s definitely worth it in the end.”
“A demigoddess gifted with immortality. What a truly adventurous prospect that must be, to live amongst legends and know your mark on the world can be eternal.” Hadrian’s eyes were somewhat glossy, and their tone gleeful. Valentina ducked her head, she hadn’t meant to brag or anything. Still, she shouldn’t turn away a compliment…“I agree, I’m very fortunate. I hope I can make a good mark on the world…” She looked over her shoulder a bit at her small wings-if only she could work a bit better and be a bit more successful-they’d be much bigger by now. “But anyone can make an eternal mark on the world, not just immortals.” She finished sincerely. “I’m not too certain of my heritage, some of the details are fuzzy. I mainly raised myself and somehow received an invitation here.” Valentina nodded somewhat sympathetically-this made sense. Their tone sounded a bit less optimistic-and more dreary. “Hey, maybe you’ll find out this year!” She said brightly. “I’m glad you decided to go-it’s going to be a great year.”
