Best of luck. You’ll need it.
Hey @Announcements!
After completing the new forum updates recently and discussing the new features, we’ve got a few exciting changes to share with you all. We’re SUPER excited! But first, we wanna run one by you, because this one, we believe, should be a group decision.
We’ll explain what this feature does and give you an example of how it would look, and then if you could, please vote on the poll to tell us if you want us to implement it!
Timezone Display
This feature involves unique user timezones and there’s no opt out button, hence why we want to check to see if the majority like the feature and want it.
The feature is for user cards (and only user cards, nothing shows on profiles). On your user card, there is a display of the local time based on the user’s timezone when their card is opened. Which means, so long as everyone agrees, this could be very cool for knowing when users are available, sleeping, working, etc. Although we are aware that this would mean that your timezone is available for people to see, and this is why we are asking if you’d like it.
If you not okay with it then that’s okay too, just vote no. As this doesn’t have an opt-out option, we will NOT be implementing unless over 90% of users voting agree to this feature.
- Yes
- No

Hey @Announcements!
This is partly a reminder for everyone to make sure they’ve voted on the poll above ^^^ and partly to share excited new features that have just been implemented.
While the one above is still your choice on whether we implement them, these two below are based on individual user choice to use them. Plus, they’re really amazing!
The new features:
-
User Locale - We now have the ability to set a language preference. Users are able to choose their own language interface in preferences (even just UK & US English). It means that once your preferred language is selected, the page will be refreshed and changed to that language. Find it in your preferences > Interface > third one down > save.
We will even be supporting left-to-right and right-to-left text directions. If you usually read from right-to-left, then there is now the ability to do so on the forums. - User Tips - This is experimental, although, it could be really helpful to help explain some of the forum features to both new users and user who aren’t as active. It will just help new users with tips that describe key features of the forums. If you want to turn it off, go to your preferences > Interface > tick the bottom box > save.
We’ll give at least another 24 hours to vote on the poll above.
Hey @Announcements,
After yesterday’s problems, we were spending a couple of hours looking at at plugins (removing unused ones) and sorting out the forum backups. There is a possibility that it will crash again today, which we maybe hoping for, as it will tell us that we have located the problem and can then look into sorting it.
On a happier note…
We have some new features!!!
- Navigation Improvements
You may have noticed a layout change in your notification page and the icons, as well as the notification menu. - Image grids!
If you want to post a group of images and don’t want them one after the other in a long-as post, then all you need to do is wrap them in[grid] ... [/grid]
tags, and the images will be neatly arranged. - User tips are now enabled by default
Hey everyone,
We seem to have noticed another change to the forums along with the above features. As Discourse are changing the layout of the navigational hamburger menu found at the top right of your screen, which is the legacy design.
There are two options available for us to change to, however, we were hoping you would all help to select which to change to. This is a forum decision after all and therefore whichever choice the majority select is the one we’ll be changing to.
The choices are:
A Sidebar
The navigational menu (or hamburger menu) is on the left-hand side of the screen, to the left of the logo. With the functionality of this menu, you seem to be able to leave it open while reading whichever thread you’re on as well as being to hide it again.
A Dropdown Header
The navigational menu (or hamburger menu) is in the same place it is now, on the right-hand side of the screen, to the left of your pfp. With this menu, it is almost the same as we have now… only with small differences like the themes will no longer be found there.
Both of these can be customisable, so we will be attempting to make them as similar to our current one in terms of what can be found within the menu.
- Sidebar Menu
- Dropdown Header Menu
We’ll be giving you 72 hours to vote before closing the poll.
Thank you to everyone that have voted!
Where can we change themes now, I have not been able to find that yet?
Yeah, I was trying to figure out how to add them there. However, since they haven’t a link, we can’t.
So the only place to find them is in your preferences, under interface.
I must say I really love this sidebar look, it makes me feel so much more organized and I like seeing everything there in one place! 🫶🏻☺️
I agree it looks clean I really like it
Yay! Thanks guys. Glad to see you like it. (wink)
Guys I like discussions but lately Caticorn and CrazyCaliope are, idk, fixing old closed and archived threads, and it gives me a notif every time they do it, and it bugs me that I get these unnecessary notifications for threads and discussion that have been closed for over a year, so will somebody tell me when it stops so I can join back again? I don’t mind a discussion
Hey there. Yeah we will let you know when it stops. I will talk to Caliope and see if theres a way to stop notifying you when a discussion has been closed for over a year and in general
No need to do that unless others don’t like this as well, since I’ve already unsubscribed from the group tag and I’ll just be waiting until it’s done, it’s not necessary to bother Cati and Caliope to try do something another way to avoid something or find a solution to a problem, when the problem is no longer there. I only informed you guys becuase one day I would like to return to discussions and discuss something, so in that case I won’t be bombarded with threads, but until then, unless it bothers you guys as well, nothing needs to be done.
Thank you for the offer though
I completely understand that!
Yeah, I promise you’re not the only one. It annoys me as well, and I know the staff feel the same.
Sadly, we can’t do anything. I try to either remove the tag or add an “/“ to the @. But I’m not sure that stops the notification.
Sadly, leaving the tag is the best way, sorry. But we will try to remind you when we’re finished so you can rejoin.
I understand it’s common, I’m not asking for changes, I’m just hoping somebody would notify me when this process either finishes or when it ends or when it becomes less common
Hey everyone,
As a few of you are probably aware, the forum unexpectedly went down two days ago (then again briefly yesterday). Kate and I caught it immediately and while trying to bring it back, we were searching for the problem.
What we found was that the issue lies within the configuration of the forum email system. So restarting the forums for all of you was just a quick band aid over the top, meaning that it’s running but without emails being sent out at all.
Setting aside time to fully work on the forum this weekend, I’m unsure what that means for the forums being online during this, but hopefully it will be. We will try to keep you informed if they need to be off and for approximately how long.
So from 2024-02-03T02:00:00Z will be approximately when we start looking into it, and then (depending how long is needed) have set aside a day or maybe two to fix it. Sadly, I don’t think this will be a quick job and it needs to fixed, but most of this will be quiet background looking and shouldn’t affect forum life.
