So people nominate others and than we picked like a couple from there selection?
Exactly. This way we have a broader view of the possible people. They would have to, of course submit a small paragraph or a few sentences on why they were nominated.
I do think we should have a cap for the number of mentors and apprentices. If everyone (or a majority of people) were mentors and apprentices, how would newcomers know exactly who to ask for help? Who would be considered knowledge about the topic?
However, I think the number should change depending on how many RPers there are. Right now, there are about 50 RPers (from the @/RP tag). There could be a percentage, like 10%-25% of the RPers are mentors, something like that.
I don’t fully agree with this, at a certain point it won’t be affective to add new mentors, maybe for like 100 people in the RP tag we could expand to 20 mentors and for 200 to 25, but that’s the very maximum in my opinion (which I don’t think will ever be reached anyway )
That’s not wat I’m talking about.
Don’t just set a limited number.
I think it would work better if we hire as many as we need, not just heading it on a number.
Agreed but that not wat I’m saying
This is wat I mean
I just read this thread and all the replies but I agree with most people! There definitely should be a limit on rp mentors and rp apprentices and I like the idea of having anyone nominate apprentices and then having the mentors vote on them! I also agree that the number should change with the amount of roleplayers to an extent!
(Idk if that reply made sense since I was kind of trying to reply to multiple things in one short paragraph)
This is my point
Yeah, I agree with this too. I think it should maybe be a certain percentage until we reach a certain number so there aren’t so many rp mentors.
Wow, I don’t know if that makes sense either, sorry, I’m tired
I agree. There are a few mentors, who, in my opinion are not quite qualified to be a mentor just yet because they one: haven’t roleplayed and/or two: haven’t been doing it long enough. They don’t have the knowledge quite needed, they just have the title currently because they asked for it. I don’t mean any offense to them, but because of the cap we are excluding more experienced and talented rpers who are more qualified to be mentors.
One of the reasons I asked to be apprentice not mentor. I haven’t enough experience (yet) to be a mentor
Apologies for my terrible explaining
Okay, I’m gonna PM all the active RP mentors and see if they think everyone who is a mentor should be a mentor, if it shows that everyone agrees one or muliple person shouldn’t be I will change them to apprentice!
Yes! I wasn’t thinking ahead to hundreds of RPers, obviously it wouldn’t make sense to have a crazy amount of mentors.
Speaking of being active, what do y’all define as someone being active? Logging on every week? Every month? Every few months? When is the cutoff? And when you say active, do y’all mean active in general, or in the RP section specifically?
When i think active I think at least 3 times a week and posting in general, whether in the chat or on an actual thread so we know you’re here, you’re alive even if you’re rather busy right now.
For me, I think being active would be being active more than once a week, like at least 2-3 times a week or maybe even more. (I don’t know how much is too much to ask because if someone asks a question to an RP mentor they probably don’t want to wait a few days for a response and I personally am online every day but I also don’t know about others and what they have going on in their life)
And then I mean active in general but I feel like RP mentors should be in a RP or at least RPed/been in an RP recently (maybe within the past few months although it would be fine if the RPer signed up for a RP and was waiting on it to start or something (unless it definitely wasn’t going to start because there are some RPs that never make it past sign-ups)) But I don’t really know
Another topic: Will a RP mentor stay an RP mentor for as long as they’re active? What I mean by that is, will we ever revote on who stays a mentor, or will there be any other ways someone who was once a mentor would no longer be? If so, how will that be decided?
In addition to that, I think the RP mentors should open a form for constructive criticism for themselves or improvement to the community in general by RPers. It can be anonymous or just a general thread, but it would help the mentors and apprentices to be better.
Oof, yeah, I was thinking about that. I mean, if someone randomly goes inactive for a while then maybe they should be demoted or whatever since mentors need to be active. If the mentor does have a specific reason for going inactive that won’t involve being inactive for a while, then maybe they wouldn’t be demoted if they were to return soon. But besides becoming inactive, I feel like there probably should be other reasons, but I don’t know what.
What do you mean? Like where people who aren’t mentors give constructive criticism to mentors?
I think every 3 months or something we should do what I did again, like evaluate who we think should be RP mentors!
Ohh, that’s a good idea, but I don’t really know how we exactly would do that
I agree with having limited numbers but I just hope it doesn’t affect me since I was one of the people who just asked and thankfully was accepted, and basically I just got here but I was active in the episode forums and I have basically been RPing for like almost 4 years but if it comes down to it, I’ll be fine with whatever decision y’all do
