NPC Post
Erek grit his teeth. Up close, one could make out the large hole in his chest, the edges of what was now unmistakably a hologram warping and glitching where the edges met charred metal. He waved off Halia, Saige, and Josias’ attempts to help, trying to get up, before falling again. “I’m fine. It’s… fine.” It clearly was not fine, but there wasn’t much in the way the others could do to help him, and he wasn’t about to make his group-mates freak out.
“If they come back and find you, they will kill you.” It was a matter-of-fact statement. “I don’t know why, but they’ve already taken nearly all of my people.” Erek couldn’t help but let out a small, defeated laugh. The jig was up- there would be no coming back from this. He was exposed. He would die. And, well, from what he knew from dealing with human teenagers, they didn’t often like being told to run for their lives without explanation. “Because, clearly, I’m not human.”
He let the hologram drop for three seconds. For three entire seconds, Erek was just himself- the real Erek. An android made of steel and ivory, with a vaguely dog-like head and legs. In just three seconds, a secret he had kept for the better part of five thousand years was exposed. Erek shook his head. “No need to check for a pulse now, huh?”
The hologram re-appeared. It still flickered- whatever had caused the hole in his chest seemed to have damaged whatever was keeping the hologram intact. But it was there, at least- the facsimile of a human.
