As the lights flickered, light bulbs breaking and raining down, Scarlett couldn’t tell whether she felt fear or excitement. Screams filled the room, panicked students rushing to the only source of light. But Scarlett stood still for a bit, inspecting the situation. Her entire body was shaking, yet she felt like laughing. Finally, something exciting was happening. She was almost glad she attended the museum trip.
Scarlett tried to push her fear aside, making sense of the situation. Her mind lingered on the principal’s warning to avoid the conference room. She was going to check it out either way, but didn’t expect much aside from a boring meeting. As the rest of the group rushed towards the room, the door opened wider and Scarlett could see what was happening better. She couldn’t help but wonder how many people knew what was happening before the lights went out. The popular boy, who was now lying on the ground, was clearly aware of everything. He was involved. Yet, he didn’t say anything when they arrived.
Of course, Scarlett wasn’t about to run. Her curiousity would never let her. Nothing happening in the conference room made sense, all she knew was that Erek was hunted by someone. And he wasn’t human. How long has it been going on? And how long until the threat returns? Scarlett might’ve been curious, but she didn’t want to put her life at risk. From afar, she could barely make out what was happening, but wasn’t sure if it would be wise to step any closer. The rest of her groupmates seemed to be as interested as she was, asking the same questions she would have. All she had to do was listen from a distance. She only took a few steps closer, to get a better view.
She remembered, up until the incident, she was talking to another student… Camlyn? She could barely see, but they couldn’t be far. “You still here? Or are you gonna rush towards the obvious threat too?” she asked, nonchalant. She made sure she showed no fear, no matter what. If people saw any of her weaknesses, it would be over for her. “Nice weather we’re having today.” she added, pointing towards the lightbulbs. Until she realized they can’t see anything. As inappropriate as it was to make a joke in that situation, she wanted to appear as calm as possible. While waiting for a reply, she glanced at the room again, taking a few more steps closer.
