I'm Merging ShanniiWrites and Shani's Tutoring!

Hi all!

Lately, I’ve been spending a lot more of my time and energy on Shani’s Tutoring compared to ShanniiWrites. In fact, I haven’t made a post for ShanniiWrites in a long time, now!

That’s because Shani’s Tutoring is where my passion is at the moment. It is making me more money, generating more traffic and overall just a better experience for me.

Plus, I initially made Shani’s Tutoring to reflect my school teaching work. I wanted to make sure the two rungs of my life weren’t too merged and didn’t get too confusing for people. However, now that I teach storytelling and creative writing, there isn’t as much of a difference as there previously was!

So, I’ve decided that I’m going to spend the next couple of months merging the two sites.

All of the big posts on ShanniiWrites will now be revamped and moved over to Shani’s Tutoring. That includes my guides on Mary Sues, as well as all the stuff about writing well on Episode. That way, I can streamline and consolidate my expenses and not compete with myself for views.

Eventually, the ShanniiWrites website will be redirected to Shani’s Tutoring.

If there is a post that you think needs a particular revamp, please let me know! I’d love to add any extras.

Wish me luck on this new endeavour!

Update: I am currently revamping the ‘How to Develop Your Own Writing Style’ post. It’s got loads more evidence, as well as theories from literary and linguistic academics like Viktor Shklovsky – that’s going to tie nicely in with my glossary! The SEO is going to be through the roof :sunglasses:

Once I’ve finished that post, I’ll make a thread as usual. However, there will also be on extra process: I’m going to redirect the old blog post to the new one!

After releasing the new and improved writing style blog post (check out the thread for more details), I am now working on my Mary-Sue post!

It definitely needs to be split into more information than I originally gave it, so I’m starting with a glossary term on what Mary-Sues are with lots of examples! Then, I’m going to create a whole free course on how to make sure your protagonist isn’t one! The glossary post is going to go up first, followed by elements of the course.

If you want to get involved in that, commenting on the glossary post would be ideal! I’d love to know some other examples that fit my definition of the Mary-Sue that aren’t just Rey from Star Wars (I have only seen the sequels once and I think it would take me a few watches to figure out which side of that debate I fall into)

I still need to think of a way to integrate the ‘Is your character a Mary-Sue’ quiz into Shani’s Tutoring natively. I’d like to host the quiz on my website rather than embedding a quiz from another site. Right now, LearnDash’s quiz function won’t really work for it because it wants me to have correct and incorrect answers for each question.

Next stage: I’ve completed the Mary-Sue Glossary term! Now, I’m going to update and improve my very popular Mary-Sue Quiz!

The good news is that I’m self-hosting it this time. That means that there won’t be another service that I embed onto my website to serve the quiz. It will be 100% my own website! It will also allow me to put ads around the quiz, meaning that it is yet another way I can make Shani’s Tutoring self-sufficient in terms of funds.

I’m working on this today. Hopefully, I’ll be able to finish it. However, it might take longer than I anticipated. The glossary term certainly did!

With that in mind, @Bloggers if you did my Mary-Sue quiz in the past, please give me feedback on how it went! I’d love to know how I can improve it! I mean, it’s from 2018, after all. I’ve definitely become a better storyteller since then!
