“Right. It makes sense not to pass…all of this up.” She said, looking around at the campus for a moment. She knew her case wasn’t exactly the same. But she was still…okay with being there. “Have you had the chance to see the campus yet?”

“Last time I went exploring, I was shot at with a sentry gun. So, I’m not exactly eager to explore somewhere else, only to accidentally get blown up or something.” Cal laughed softly. “I’ve just been out here, looking at the clouds.”

“Oh,” she said with embarrassment, her cheeks flushing bright red. “Then… who is Blilly Batson? I haven’t heard of …them.” Angel very carefully avoided using pronouns. ‘Cause Billy could be a girl.

Crystal watched the students file by, some entering the Academy with wide smiles, others with nervous expressions. She had found this strange at first, but after some researching and deducing from the Stark Database and other sources, she had come to realize that this was probably due to their different upbringings and backgrounds contributing to their feelings towards the Academy. Some had come willingly, while others were forced; some were seeking training, while others were seeking refuge. It was extremely perplexing; the goal of the Academy was to train heroes, so wouldn’t that be the reason for one to come? Strange.

It had been no less than an hour that students had began arriving that there had been a situation that nearly called Crystal’s action. She had heard the firing of a sentry gun, and after accessing the security camera footage, she viewed a student, namely Katrina Cain, firing bullets at Cal Kent. Crystal had accessed the database before deciding not to interfere- Cal himself was bulletproof, and while there were many other, non-bulletproof students at the Academy, Katernia seemed to have gotten bored after not being able to kill the child, and another student, Bethany Batson, was already on her way to settle the situation.

Bethany Batson. She wasn’t a variable Crystal was expecting to have to take into account when she was assigned to her duties within the Academy. A child that was able to take the form of an adult might seem like a ‘cool’ ability, but it interfered immensely with Crystal’s work as a rule-enforcer- children were much more likely to listen to an ‘adult’ with great power rather than an android disguised as a teenager. The more Crystal thought about it, the more difficult the task Stark had assigned to her seemed, with all the variables and limitations he had given.

Crystal decided to refocus on the situation at hand- Katerina Cain. Another student had long since approach Cal, leaving Katerina to wander alone, seemingly in the direction of the simulation chamber. While the current threat was neutralized, there was still a good chance that Katerina would still act recklessly, perhaps testing her weaponry on a student that was a bit less bulletproof than Cal. Crystal decided the best course of action was to approach her and deduce why she had done it so that she could prevent such instances in the future.

Though Crystal could have quickly flown over to Katerina’s location, her assignment was to seem like a normal teenager, at least for the time being. It frustrated her a great deal, but she was able to manage. Once she did find Katerina, wandering over the campus, she approached her calmly. “Hello,” Crystal said in a light British accent. “May I ask why you were attempting to shoot the boy earlier?” Crystal was careful not to reveal that she knew their names, as that apparently wasn’t commonplace with other humans.

She frowned a little, but laughed as he did. Soon after, she remembered what he did with the cloud earlier. “Oh, yeah…What did you do earlier? That made the cloud kind of…disappear.”

Cal had a decision to make: Tell her the truth or lie. Before he finished the thought he had already made a decision. He didn’t want his family hurt. “I don’t know, I mean clouds are… essentially water vapor. It could’ve been anything. Heat would be my guess though.”

“Yeah, Probably…” She shrugged, knowing that made little sense, and he was probably hiding it. “…Yoou said this place was for superheroes…Is that what you want to do? Be a superhero?”

Cal laughed. “I think, I’ll just let the people with powers deal with that. I’m just here to get a good education, I guess. My parents want me on the farm…but also want me to have an education so that I could choose instead of having the choice made for me.” He sighed. “I love the farm, my family…I guess it’s hard to imagine I’m destined for anything else.”

“My dad is a good man, he took care of me after my mom…” her voice trailed off and a tear fell down her face. “He was left the same way and promised me he would never abandon me. He’s my best friend…”

“Uhh…” Angel wasn’t sure what to say to her as she began to cry. She wasn’t exactly sympathetic, but she decided to fake it. “It’s okay,” she said simply, leaning across the table and using the nail of her index finger to flick away the tear.

She nodded, “Who knows. I mean…There is a whole world out there. If you think you’ve found your place, that’s great. But I think it’s worth exploring if you haven’t.” She set her bags down, sitting by a tree.

“My life used to be a lot different. The people, the places-…And I don’t mean just living here now. I thought I’d just grow up, get a small job that pays enough to get by, and that’d be my life. But something kinda big happened, and that changed.” She shrugged, “Not that I’m not okay with all of that.”

“…Long story short, maybe you’ll find a new dream or purpose here.”

He listened to her story, at least the parts of it she told. “It sounds like you had something planned too. What changed?” He asked as he looked back up at the clouds. “If you don’t mind me asking.” he added quickly.

“Thanks.” She smiled and decided it was time to change the subject. “So, your last name is Prince. Any relation to Diana Prince?” She asked curious. It wasn’t like her to pry, but friends are appreciated no matter where they come from.

She shrugged, “Not much. I found out I was adopted. And my biological dad was a Superhero…And that it may have been his fault that my mom was in prison.” She paused, “…I’ve kind of put the peices together over time, so I don’t know everything for sure. But even the idea of that kind of changed my mind about how I wanted to go through life.”

“Yeah, She’s my mum. Which makes Zeus my grandpa.” Angel smirks. She is descended from actual gods. “I’m still figuring out my powers though. My abilities are like my mums but a bit different. I’m curious to see what I can do. What about you? Any special powers?”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t know.” He chuckled softly. “You have real issues and yet here I am ranting about my future.” Cal went and sat next to her. “I’m sure it will all work out. I know that sounds cliche, but I’ve come from a family of optimists. Over the years, I’ve figured out, they just might be on to something with that optimism thing.”

“That’s really cool.” She smiles and thinks about the last few times she’s made friends all because of her powers. “No, I don’t. My dad seemed a little disappointed but he still loves me.”

“That’s not cool though… I mean, it’s not like It’s your fault you didn’t inherit anything. Who knows, maybe you just haven’t developed them yet?” Angel says calmly, though she doesn’t miss the slight pause in Bethany’s sentence, she doesn’t say anything. She probably has a reason for lying, Angel thought to herself.

“I’m sure you’re right, and the same goes for you. Also, don’t worry about it. I’m usually kind of open with my past and life story.” She shrugged. “…But what was it like growing up on a farm?”

“Hard work, very hard work…” He paused and smiled at the memories. “But, also very rewarding. It feels good knowing we grow our own food and provide food for others. Also, we’re rewarded with the most beautiful night sky, you’ve ever seen. Sometimes my brothers and sister would take me out to our field towards the back in the truck and we’d just lay in the truck bed, talking and laughing while looking up at the night sky.”
