Ezra had a routine of waking up at the crack of dawn, and he didn’t plan on changing it. The view from his old childhood bedroom always gave him a hint of nostalgia. From where he was resting, Ezra looked up to see an outdated baseball poster and jersey from a retired player, as well as a large stack of football cards he used to trade. It saddened him to see that some of his favorite local shops had been replaced with fast food chains and clothing stores.
He had awoken immediately and preformed the same ritual he had been doing for the past week while staying at his father’s home. With his sister and father still fast asleep, Ezra did his best to make the least amount of noise as possible. Having eaten the same meal daily, it was nice to have more options at home. He reheated some breakfast burritos that had been made the previous day, drank a cup of black coffee, and caught up on his emails. By now it was 6:30 a.m. and he decided to go out on a run, but not before leaving a note informing his dad where he went.
He threw on a black muscle tank along with some grey shorts. Ezra could feel the warmth of sunlight hit his skin the instant he stepped foot outside. To Ezra, it was wonderful to be back and be reminded of a simpler time. The aroma of freshly baked bread came across him as Ezra steadily jogged past the bakery, triggering a memory of when he worked there one summer. He proceeded on his planned path and reached the park where he sat down on a bench by the lake to take in his surroundings. As expected, there wouldn’t be many kids playing at this hour. He was delighted to see that the park had been maintained for all this time. Ezra could see an old couple enjoying breakfast not too far by. He also observed a young man approaching a young woman in the forest from across the lake. Ezra took advantage of this leisurely moment to close his eyes and bask in the sunlight.
