Lottie was starting to get tired out from this conversation, smalltalk was never something she enjoyed. Though the guy she was speaking to seemed pretty nice, she just couldn’t understand the joy people get from talking about meaningless things.
“What we’re you listening to earlier?”
“Oh, just my favorite bands. Why do you care anyway?” she said, starting to get a bit impatient. She sighed, then trying to think of ways she could make this encounter more interesting. An idea popped into her head, though she thought it would be best to wait for Adrian’s response first. Perhaps he’d end this conversation, considering her responses to his questions.

As Luna entered the school she turned off her GoPro and put it in her handbag. She had made a morning routine vlog for her YouTube channel including the fifteen minute walk to the high school. The class was just about to start when she got to the classroom and most seats were already taken. There was one free seat beside Cassandra, the exchange student. They hadn’t talked that much but she seemed cool and was quite pretty.
“Is this seat taken?”, Luna asked.
~>>Cassandra<<~
I glanced up briefly when someone asked if the seat next to me was taken. It obviously wasn’t, as no one was sitting in it, but people still insisted on asking the most ridiculous questions. The girl who asked looked vaguely familiar, but I didn’t know why. Then again, I had probably just seen her in class. It was still strange, since I never paid attention to people in my class.
“Yes,” I finally answered. “My invisible friend is sitting there.” I raised my eyes to hers, letting her see my poker face. Hopefully she wouldn’t talk to me now. Most people were usually freaked out by my emotionless expressions.
Luna got a bit surprised by Cassandra’s reply and for a brief second thought that she had wronged the exchange student in some way. The seat was clearly not taken so Luna debated whether she should insist on sitting there anyways or just take the free seat at the far back of the classroom beside Jude, a very quiet and gentle guy.
Luna made up her mind and gave Cassandra a slight smile. “Okay… have fun with your invisible friend.” She started to walk and expected, or maybe wished, that Cassandra would say something just to ease her nerves.
Adrian could see that Lottie was getting a bit impatient and uncomfortable. “Uh… you okay?” he asked. Was he bothering her? Did she not want to talk to him? He shook his thoughts away and turned his attention to her.
“Oh, just my favourite bands. Why do you care anyway?”
Ouch, that hurt. Adrian wanted to call her out for being rude but decided not to. He didn’t want to annoy her or come off as a mean person, so he decided to answer her question.
“Well, I dunno… because I’m a singer…?”

Ayumi actually laughed at her joke. She wasn’t really funny, so she was a bit surprised. “I can’t just leave the park right now, but I’ll definitely take you up on that sandwich date later today,” Hye-Jin wasn’t expecting that, but she would appreciate a free sandwich. “Well, um, I was joking about it but you can do that,” she subtly shrugged at her.
“You’re like a knight in shining armour, with the wet wipes.” she laughed at her comment about Aisling.
Ayumi had introduced herself after Hye-Jin asked for her name. The name ‘Ayumi’ sounded familiar. She tried hard to remember who had a name like that. One of her friends in Northfield, yes! “Ayumi and Aisling are very pretty names.” she smiled at them.
She turned towards Ayumi, “And… are you Japanese…? Because I had a friend called Ayumi who was from Japan.” she was really curious and couldn’t avoid asking her this question.
“Thanks,” she slightly smiled at her and kept her food on the table. She sat down when the girl introduced herself. She was called ‘Hannah’ if Emilia had heard correctly. She, too, extended and shook her hand. “Emilia here,”
Emilia felt a bit uncomfortable sitting with a stranger, but she could feel that she had seen Hannah somewhere. “Do you study in the Kensington University?” she slowly asked her, not wanting to seem suspicious or creepy.
“Thanks, it’s Irish. I was born there, moving here when I was six.” I said, sitting down on the bench next to her. “I hope you don’t mind. Yeah, are you Japanese? I assume you’re a teacher, considering all the little kids. They like my hair. It’s cute.” @elixr - Hye-Jin @unsungcheerio - Ayumi
“Well, I dunno… because I’m a singer…?” Adrian replied.
A singer? Lottie couldn’t remember any singer by the name of Adrian, though he did look a bit familiar. She couldn’t recognize him, probably due to the fact that she doesn’t listen to local artists. Her face flushed pink, she turned her head away, trying to think of a way to get out of the situation. Though either way, he probably hated her already due to her behavior, just like most people she’s met. After a minute of silence, she attempted to speak in a calm and unbothered tone, though her voice still trembled a bit.
“Oh, you’re a singer? I haven’t heard of you before. What genre is your music?”
Lottie looked a bit confused. Did he say anything wrong? She was quiet for over a minute and it was getting really uncomfortable for Adrian. Should he say something and break the silence? She looked like she was deep in thought.
Finally, she spoke, "Oh, you’re a singer? I haven’t heard of you before. What genre is your music?”
Damn, this was awkward! Adrian turned away from her and rubbed his forehead. ‘Oh God, this is so embarrassing!’ he thought and blushed bright red. He sighed and turned back to her. “Well, I mostly sing Pop, but occasionally Rock too…” he said in a neutral tone.

“I hope you don’t mind.”* Aisling sat next to her. “Oh, of course not!” she exclaimed. “I have never met an Irish person.”
“And, I’m Korean. You probably have figured it out because of my looks and name. Though distinguishing Asians is kinda hard. And I’m speaking from experience.” Hye-Jin was being a bit racist, but no one would easily notice that.
“Yeah, I have trouble distinguishing between Asians too…not to be racist or anything! Asian culture is so cool and you’re so pretty. I mean-not in a flirtatious way! Uhh…” I muttered awkwardly, facepalming. @elixr - Hye-Jin
“I know you were joking,” she replied, eyes sparkling. “But it’ll be fun, don’t you think?”
“Yeah, I am Japanese, but I was born and raised in Northfield.” She furrowed her brows, thinking about if she knew a Korean girl named Hye-Jin when she was a little girl. Ayumi couldn’t remember anything specific, but it was definitely a possibility. “Do I look like your friend?”
Aisling assumed she was a teacher, and Ayumi nodded happily, gesturing to the students around her. “Yeah, I’m an early years teacher of these young ones. Field trip today, that’s why we’re all here.”
She leaned against the side of the bench, watching the red-headed girl try to flirt (albeit pretty terribly) with Hye-Jin. Hiding a laugh with her hand, she raised her brows, watching Aisling fumble. “Hye-Jin is pretty, and so are you, Aisling. I think Irish culture is pretty cool too.”
“Thanks so much. People always ask about my hair. It’s funny. I want to go back to Ireland one day to see relatives.” I said. @elixr - Hye-Jin @unsungcheerio - Ayumi
“And you’re so pretty. I mean- not in a flirtatious way!” Hye-Jon laughed at her compliment. Aisling was flushing and she could notice that.
“It’ll definitely be fun!” she exclaimed with a bright smile. “We all should meet up tomorrow if you guys want to, that is.”
“Do I look like your friend?” Ayumi had asked. She did look familiar with her short hair and all. “I mean, a bit, but there’s a slight chance of that happening,” she said after thinking about it for about a minute or so.
While chatting with them, Hye-Jin was reminded of her University. “Just a sec,” she said and took out her phone to check the time. It was 9:20 AM. She was going to be late if she didn’t go back home and head to her class.
“Uh… as much as I hate this, I really have to go! I have Uni at 10.” she nervously smiled at them.
“Oh, you better go! Im in Uni too, but I don’t have class today. Could I get your number real quick?” I asked her, pulling my phone out of my pocket. @elixr - Hye-Jin

I could hardly refrain from rolling my eyes. I thought the girl would just sit down and ignore me, not head to another seat. So of course now I had to have guilt nagging at me. Before she could get too far, I made a snap decision and called out, “Geez, I was just teasing you. You can have the seat if you like.” Ugh. If only she had just said something right back instead of looking like a kicked puppy and slinking away. I couldn’t stand animal abuse. Bloody morals.
@fraud - sry for taking so long and lol I kinda just now realized Cassandra is somewhat of a bully
Apparently, she was in the same University as Hye-Jin, but she hadn’t seen her on campus before. “Oh, didn’t know that! What do you study?” she asked.
When she got up, Aisling asked for her number. “Uh, sure,” she smiled and told her number. “Hey, I would love to hang out with you guys. Are you guys free tomorrow?” she waited for their response eagerly.
I smiled. “I study Nursing. You?” I asked, typing her number into my phone. She asked if we were free tomorrow and I nodded, saying “Yeah, after 10:00.” @elixr - Hye-Jin
Adrian already looked pretty uncomfortable in this situation, and both were blushing out of embarrassment. And yet, Lottie’s words seemed to make the conversation even more awkward. Adrian sighed, his voice back to being seemingly normal, as he answered Lottie’s question.
“Well, I mostly sing Pop, but occasionally Rock too…”
Lottie nodded at his answer, face still red, then turning to look at another direction immediately after. She walked to the side a bit, turning her back on Adrian as she rubbed her arm awkwardly.
“I’m… Gonna go for a swim… Come if you’d like.” she sighed, before turning her head towards Adrian to see his reaction.
