Hi confessa from the trans prompt confession here *waves*. I don’t really have something else to confess, but I’m too scared to address this personally since I really don’t want anyone to know who I am. I just wanted to say, concerning the last confession: I did talk a bit about my discomfort with the challenge with a small group of friends, in truth I’m still kind of uncomfortable with it but i feel like I need to mention the fact that my feelings about it have nothing to do on how I feel about @LittleFeets . I do not think poorly of her, not at all. Like I said in my first confession I know she has good intentions with the challenge and it’s good that she wants to see more diversity in RPs. My issue with it is, most of all, a lack of nuance on how it’s structured and the wording in some cases (like implying making a trans or asian character is not as "basic" as "an elderly character, a character who is a twin, a character in their 40s, a character that is a parent" etc), that’s all. Please understand that me feeling uncomfortable with the challenge is not an attack on the creator, it’s not an attack at all, it was just a small concern. I do want to see more inclusiveness in RPs here of course, but there’s always the issue of how things are worded and the fact that we can’t control how anyone will take a prompt.
PS: I do not know if the last confessa is one of my friends who I talked about being uncomfortable? But if it is, I can promise all we’ve talked is very civil and has nothing to do with anyone’s opinion on specific people in the forums.

Hi, I’m the confessor of the Asian challenge comment. Honestly I don’t feel comfortable PMing about this which is why I’m sending an anonymous confession. We already get denied irl when we come forward with such things so it feels like people don’t understand where my friends and I are coming from. It’s not a personal attack on anyone, I don’t think less of anyone because of the RP challenges. I just want to say that someone who is a POC/LGBTQA+ , I just want to be normalised and while I love inclusion/representation, I think it can be encouraged in ways that make people less uncomfortable. A few of my friends and I felt uncomfortable with the Asian challenge (yes we are people of Asian descent). I’ve been bullied for being of Asian descent but idc, I’m proud of my heritage but I don’t feel special or unique for that, just that sometimes people are ignorant about the culture. I get that the rp casts might not be diverse but I think making non-white/non-cishet characters should be normalised instead of rewarded. My friends and I know your intentions are good but the fact that we felt uncomfortable isn’t an attack. We are simply trying to educate others because while we are proud of our identities, the magnification of these things can make some of us uncomfortable because it’s not one part of us that defines us. The entire world is diverse, not only in terms of gender, ethnicity or sexuality but things as simple as age or personality. For the longest time, many of Western media excludes us or misrepresented us but the RP community is someplace we feel we can feel included and well represented. I am not against people who are non-POC writing characters who are POC or people who are cishet writing about non-cishet characters. But I urge you, please do it properly (ask questions and do your research, I’ve seen great resources on these forums about this already) and most importantly please normalise us. It’s easy to misrepresent but people are willing to correct you, not out of malice but so you can learn and understand. I don’t want the RP challenges to stop and I don’t think my friends do. But please just hear us out and understand why I feel too uncomfortable to PM.
(I’m not misunderstanding anyone’s intentions but the execution made me and a few friends uncomfortable.)

Okay, I get why you’d feel uncomfortable pming her (lord knows it was uncomfortable for me to pm anybody for a long time), but I can tell you that Brooke isn’t someone who just shoots down ideas or isn’t willing to listen. The last thing she wants is for her character challenge thingamajig to make anyone uncomfortable, and so if you and your friends who have issues with it would pm her, then she could listen and learn and adjust.
She’s a nice person and she’s trying her best but it can be hard to fix things when an in-depth conversation isn’t had about it. Like, you don’t want the rp challenges to stop, but what would you have her do with this prompt? Or even future prompts?

Well… I still don’t know how to deal with this. And it does hurt to hear that you all aren’t comfortable enough around me actually talk to me, and feel like you have to hide yourself behind these anonymous confessions. If there are multiple people uncomfortable with my decisions with the challenges, then something clearly needs to change even if you can’t explain how to improve.
I am trying to find a solution though

Sorry Brooke, this was a difficult thing for me to voice so I didn’t feel comfortable PMing it’s not anything against you, like I mentioned before. I gave suggestions which were shut down and tried to explain things without trying to attack anyone, so I don’t know what more to say on this. The responses in general just made me feel shut down so I’m not sure what to add anymore, sorry.
Nobody was trying to shut you down though, people were just explaining why some of your ideas wouldn’t work, that’s all. I liked some of them, and so did the others.

Going to jump in and add — Please look beyond it as asking for the challenge to make a character defined by their identity. The idea is that to make characters that are different or outside your comfort as a black queer lady I ADORE these challenges that are pushing RPers to create diverse characters. I cannot speak over Asians or the Transgender community but I’m asking that you look at the point. She’s trying, she’s trying to encourage more diverse characters + make it more inclusive and these challenges are meant to help RPers accustom to them. She’s open to PMing and lemme tell you, Brooks is one of the nicest people I know!! And she is so kind and open to having a conversation. You’re pointing out issues but can you PM her and/or give her suggestions on how to change up so it doesn’t offend you?

It’s no surprise that if you’re not apart of the community you’re less likely to create characters of that community, you’re afraid of messing up. But I think these challenges are aiming to give these RPers a chance to look at their characters and say I haven’t made a trans/bipoc/lgbt character before, maybe I should give it a chance. I always try to make diverse characters because there used to be such a lack of diversity within characters made in the RPes. I get that you want it to be normalized, I 100% understand you and your point. But you’re letting this out in an anon confession instead of PMing the person. This is pushing the RP community to make diverse characters and unless a spotlight is shined like take the time to make this character please a lot of people are not going to stray outside of their comfort zone of white and/or cishet characters.

And if people are going to make characters that they are based on their identity that’s a conversation to be started with them and awareness to be raised among them. And I know this awesome community is going to take the time to point out their mistakes. If we take away the chance for the RPers to create diverse characters without judgement we’re limiting our own diversity and they’re going to make another stereotyped character – it just won’t be on this platform or even in public.

As for the anonymous confessions/questions (all of them), that’s all they are. They anonymous. I’m sorry, I know you say that they are from different people but we have no way of knowing that. Not unless all those people come forward. I know you don’t want to, but unless you do, we really can’t help you find a way around this to make it the best it can be. Many Rpers have stated it publicly here that they are happy with the way it’s run. Whereas, the only one who sees a problem with them is anonymous, which we can’t do much about if you don’t talk it through with us. I want to help, I do, but so many anonymous confessions have ended up being trolls trying to negatively effect the forums. I’m hope you’re not trying this but we can’t be sure.
As Brooke said, her PMs are open to ALL the confessors of this situation. OR, if you don’t feel comfortable doing that then you’re welcome to PM me. You’ll stay anonymous, I won’t share your identity and I WILL try to help as best I can.
If you are still too uncomfortable to do that then I’m sorry you feel this way. We try to make this place as relaxed as possibly and have plenty of people who can help with these situation. Sadly though, unless we hear from you with the mask of anonymity, we just have to try our best (and Brooke’s best) to make it the best challenge it can be. (wink)

is it just me or has the amount of rp’s been decreased? I kinda miss how active it used to be. Maybe it’s just me but I feel like rp’s die even faster and even those who are done well are not as active as they could’ve been. there are a lot of people who are taking multiple days to respond and I get that people are busy, but the other person is just waiting and the whole rp is just quiet for a few days and I feel bad for the hosts who are doing such a good job in trying to keep things moving.

Especially now, there are final examinations coming up or whatever and this past year has just been a rough time for a bunch of people. People take a long time to respond (it’s me, I’m people) because they don’t have all the time in the world to dedicate to RPing anymore. It’s just a slump, it won’t last forever broski

Yeah, it’s sad. People are either busy or demotivated, probably because of the current situation we all are in. Some are getting back at it now though, so I hope everything comes back! As Chid said, it won’t last forever. Just don’t give up : D
