Iām not totally sure, I just know this is how it is in Greece. That Poppy is short for/a nickname of Calliope. Ironically, my main nickname (all my life) has been Poppy. However, my mum and I didnāt know why or how I got the nickname. HAHA. It wasnāt until we met up in Athens that we both learnt Poppy is originally the nickname for Calliope.
Though I think it must be to do with sounds. The āo-peā is similar to the end of Poppy, pronounced it sorta like Popi/Poppy. But yeah, it just is.
