So, Ross from Friends is, like, the worst

I thought my petty self would make a toxic hate thread about how much I hate the idea of Ross Geller.

He tells Rachel that she’s “just a waiter” and that’s a reason against being with her. Then, when she stops being a waiter and gets a high powered job, he tells her that he’s tired of having a relationship with her answering machine. Like wtf? She can’t win!

His big romantic gesture is to try to stop Rachel from going to have the career of her dreams. He said the wrong name at his wedding. He’s judgemental, self-righteous and he thinks he’s better than everyone else because he’s got a phd.

And if he was so sure they were on a break so it was ok to sleep with someone else, why not just be honest and upfront about it? Hiding it made it worse. And people who haven’t done anything wrong don’t need to hide their actions.

I tried to watch Friends, but after HIMYM it just wasn’t funny for me :frowning:

He really is the absolute worst. Trying to stop her from leaving is played as the right thing to do, and honestly it’s just a microcosm of how the show frames him. That he’s actually right, and has actually just been wronged by society. It’s not very good

The best version of Friends for me is Happy Endings. More diversity (but not stereotypes), funnier jokes, and characters that you’re supposed to think are terrible people. Cancelled too soon after only 3 seasons

Ross is the perfect example of a toxic partner that no one should trust. If a woman wants to focus on her career, let her.

Yeah it didn’t age as well as I expected it to, to be honest. Like some of the jokes are “HAHA HIS WIFE IS GAY”, but I feel like we’re over homosexuality being funny, so the laugh track seems stupid

I heard about that! It would be nice to see some people who are supposed to be framed as asses for a change. Friends makes me really wonder about the values of society back in the 90s

There are so so many other instances of him being awful. I mean there’s part of an episode dedicated to the patronising way he speaks, but he’s still supposed to be the good guy.

And why did Rachel not say that he wouldn’t have hidden his one night stand if he thought it was ok to sleep with other people when they were on a break?

I just recently started watching the show and I’m only on like season 3 but I have to agree Ross is most likely my least liked character. Especially with his ego and the whole deal with Rachel (and Max he gets way to jealous for seemingly no reason)

Tell me about it! Wait until you get further into their relationship. It gets worse and worse

So she gets off the plane and says she doesn’t wanna mess things up. She says “this is it.” And he says “unless we’re on a break”.

What an a**hole joke

Yeah, I remember me and my sister rolling our eyes over that one.

Seriously? That’s not funny at all. Did he forget how brokenhearted Rachel was?

They were never officially on a break, anyway. Plus, if he really believed that, he wouldn’t have felt the need to sneak his one night stand out of the apartment when she came

For real.

He wasn’t even bad in the first-(second?) season. He was fine pretty much until he started actually dating Rachel. Besides the fact he was pretty stuck up.

Yeah! That and he’s a little homophobic. But I could put up with him early on!
