I love the diversity in the TV show of Avatar. That’s what makes the white washing in the film so disgusting.
TV show: we have some awesome characters of all races. Bad guy is white.
Film: Everyone is white except the bad buy. He’s Indian.

It’s not trash. Look at statistics, this is most true. And people often deny it. Especially where I live, if a cop pulled me over chances are he’d be more harsh than with someone of a lighter color. In court, have you seen When they see us? I bet you if the victim was black instead of white they wouldn’t have gone through so much trouble. Incriminating the boys, forcing them tom lie, they did because they wanted a scapegoat. Convient thing? They were all black. This racial privilege thing is so true and it hurts. I grew up with it, my friends, family, my brother and sisters in bonds not blood. We go through the day with the fact we have to work harder to get jobs, make money, live. The way you say it makes me think you mean to say it doesn’t exist.
But it does and I’m living witness and any other person like me.
I like the Asian cast of Avatar. They actually show dark skinned or brown skinned Asians.
I’ve noticed that too.
I have a feeling that there are white people that don’t understand that the women were forced to twerk, right?
sad, painful, emotional
When They See Us is a perfect example and theres no denying there is racism in the Criminal Justice Court. It was based on a true story.
Very. I cried.
I dislike the term “privilege”. It has the implication that none of us deserves to be treated fairly despite our race. I think it’s just a right that some races don’t have in some parts of the world
I think they were but twerking was definently in the African culture. The issue is now that it’s shown as “slutty” behavior when before, it wasn’t.
Don’t we all have some sort of privilege? ![]()
ok guys, tell me something, if Patrick changed the black character, and added a white character, would ya be okay with that? or?
Yeah I don’t think any of those movies and shows mentioned there and particularly the cartoons, are along the lines of what I enjoy watching.
This is why I haven’t said it never happens as I am sorry to say that I have no idea just how often it happens, and why I said I can understand that reaction to it. I just haven’t seen many instances personally ![]()
It should be balanced, by all means, but then again everything should be in an ideal world.
I personally have a particular poc in one of my wattpad stories, and although he would be considered a “stereotypial best friend” he is a key in helping the white mc through his dark part of his life, it’s not the exact same obviously and wasn’t done based on race either, was just as a character, but hopefully this goes in some way to show that I’m not saying never have the roles reversed
Like, it’s not a privilege that a white person can come across a police officer and not fear their own life. It’s a basic right.
I see now.
Even worse when these white feminists think they’re oppressed when women that are non-white are oppressed.
See, that’s the kind of diversity we like to encourage.
Make a character, if it doesn’t hurt the story to make them look, act and feel different from other characters? Go for it, especially if it’s realistic for the setting. That’s what diversity should be, not a damn checklist
As an African i can verify that. Many of our traditional dances include “twerking”. The fact that its seen as slutty or bad makes me sad. It’s part of a complicated routine of dancing and I used it do it much as a child.
I don’t have a problem with stereotypes, personally. As long as the stereotype is used as a springboard to make them into a well-developed, rounded character. As long as the stereotypes aren’t the only things that define them.
Well, it’s kinda apart of a privilege yes? I mean, they don’t really have to fear of being racially profiled or suffer much brutality from the police? I see it as a right too but also some sort of advantage.
It’s a trash card to play when using it against someone.
For instance if you told me I had white privilege because of the way I would act, that would be trash as you don’t know me or my life situation or background or personal life.
Not that it doesn’t happen at all… but that it shouldn’t be used to attack someone for something ![]()
Yeah, that’s an issue I have heavily on white feminism.
