Guilty pleasure I love the first 2 Transformers.
lol, i love all of em!
And people’s reaction to that wouldn’t be to call you stupid, like they would with Twilight. Even though objectively they’re worse than the Twilight films
It pretty much seems a stupid toxic romance, and i don’t like vampires for that reason. I don’t find them hot at all, i can only imagine the protagonist to be their pawn or something
I didn’t read the books but my mom did and she was so in love with it all. But me and her saw all the movies and I have to say we bonded so much over it and it’s the first movie that got me caught up with vampires and werewolves.
Honestly Ik some people don’t like it but I enjoy it.
The books aren’t that bad. It’s more the movies that give Twilight so much hate because of the way the characters are portrayed.
Lol nobody is stupid for liking something, even if that thing is considered bad it doesn’t make the person stupid.
Alot of my favourite albums were critisized but it’s about taste.
So in my opinion it doesn’t deserve all the hate that it gets. It’s not the best story out there but it also isn’t like terrible.
Put it this way, it doesn’t harm anybody and it kills time to watch it. I prefer it to Titanic
Same and it’s fun to watch with your mom.
I’ve never read the books, because all my friends said they’re not worth the time. But then we watched the first movie at school and it was okay. I decided to watch all of them, so I get the full picture…but I ended up liking it. But there are many scenes (especially in the second movie) that I just skip every time I watch it.
I think I understand why many people don’t like them, because when I think about the whole story, it’s not really the best…but when I need a soppy love story and a happy ending, it’s one of my favorites, especially when I’m lying in my bed with ice cream, trying to get over my non-existent love life
In my opinion… Vampire Academy is better
ONly read the first book so far, but I agree.
Not perfect, not amazing. Definitely good though. And a lot better in terms of role models ngl. Rose might not be the most well adjusted or great in all ways but at least she’s proactive and strong
It’s my favorite book series, I read it 3 times
Fifty Shades is pretty damn good reading actually
As for twilight. I never managed to read the books through. I read one of them. My biggest issue is, like with 50 shades, the weak as fook female lead. I mean come on. How can you truly follow and back a character who has the personality of a wafer?!
I don’t care for controlling, abusive, manipulative relationships personally. I also don’t care for someone trying to make out that BDSM is caused by mental deficiencies and serious anti-social personality problems, not a very nice insinuation xD
Yeah, 50 Shades, Twilight, a lot of YA novels nowadays all have the same problem as bad shonen anime. The main character has zero personality and they’re usually completely reactionary? They never actually decide anything, it’s not a sign of a well-written character
Yeah I see your point there, however, the relationship isn’t entirely that black and white, nor does it and that way. I do agree that BDSM is not a consequence of anything as much as a lifestyle choice or preference.
But this is about twilight. I can fight ya on fifty shades another time if ya like
Fifty Shades obvs not a young adult romance though. However I agree a lot of them do have weak female leads.
Bella was such a spineless and irritating prat I wanted Edward to fail rescuing her at first just so I didn’t have to listen to her pathetic moaning.
I hate love triangles for the most part as my loyalty in my personality doesn’t allow me to play with someone else’s feelings or enjoy seeing it/reading about it, and the way she toys with Jacobs emotions the whole way through was childish and pathetic in my opinion.
I didn’t enjoy that at all. Thanks to her ever so weak character portrayal she stunted the other character’s developments and performances as they couldn’t outshine her, them not being the MC. I think with a stronger character for Bella, both written and shown, it would have been better.
If we make a thread about it sometime I’ll be there, you know it, I don’t have opinions that strong about many things xD 50 Shades hits a few sore spots for me, personally.
Yeah my sentence structure was a mess there, my bad >.<
The issue with this is a lot of Meyer’s mild internalised mysogyny. Don’t get me wrong, she doesn’t hate women or anything, that’s really dumb. But that gender swapped version of Twilight is very telling. Beueuaue, the male version of Bella is a strong, likeable character who has a ton of agency in the story and is very rarely seen as weak or struggling. Didn’t make the story much better though, especially with the female Edward being weak, scrawny and with less agency in the story .__.
Honestly Meyer should try her hand at a gay romance, it would probably be perfectly fine xD
You’re on. We can hash that out there.
Yep badddddd sentence structure. But i kinda figured as much, just clarifying it.
I never knew there was a gender reversal version. But i presume the counter was even worse somehow.
I just find the damsel in distress option gets taken to a far extreme unneccessarily. Then you end up with a weak lump of whinging human slumping her was throughout the book or film just having about as much impact on things as a spit in a storm
I didn’t like that E L James was mainly inspired by Twilight, as sadly she picked up the awful female lead. But thankfully the decent main men managed to carry the brunt of the flow for them.
“”““Inspired””“” is a funny word for plagiarism
Yeah, a lack of agency is an enormous problem in a story. Not even just a YA novel. In any story, a reactionary protagonist just isn’t interesting. Especially past a first outing. That doesn’t mean a character can’t have a reactionary moment like John Wick, that then makes them decide to go on a killing rampage, but if they spend the entire story reacting it’s just not fun to read
