When she responded that her heart problems were valve disease he knew just how serious it could be and his expression turned sour. He quickly tried to recall everything he knew about the valve disease, but considering he knew this information from his father’s and mother’s secondary experiences and stories, he didn’t know a lot, but enough to know how serious it was. Valve disease basically means that one or more valves don’t open and close propperly. It means there would be irregular heartbeats, chest pain, low or high blood pressure depending on which valve is affected, and it would means she would be at high risk of heart failure or a heart attack.
When Jenny mentioned she smoked, Reece realized she’s at a higher risk than she mentioned. He did not expect Jacob to turn on her for asking very logical questions. “Jacob, Jenny was right to ask that question. I know you wish this wasn’t the case, but smoking with a heart disease increases the chances of heart failure or cardiac arrest and considering she’s at a high risk of that happening already, smoking might as well kill her.”
He came closer to the two of them. “Jacob, I know you want to help, but saying she isn’t dying isn’t helping.” He turned to her. “It must be heart going through the chestpain, the palpitations and the countless doctor visits and a surgery to still be dealing with the same problem and still having limitations. You must want it all to end … But nobody whose ever had the pleasure to meet you wants that for you. Had we known about this sooner, we’d have a funraiser to make it as easy as possible for you and to give you the best possible care our money can get you. You are a rare gem, Hazel, it would be a shame to see you gone before you were polished to perfection. Now that we know, we will be here for you, and we won’t stop being here for you and offering our help to you until you feel better and hopefully those awful symptoms will end withouth you having to end as well.” He turned around to face Jenny and said. “That’s right Jenny, we’re all here for her.”
