Hearing Jenny’s ragged breath, a small sigh of relief escaped Fern’s lips. At least it meant she would slowly start breathing normally again, instead of holding back on it like she did for a while. I can’t, she heard Jenny say multiple times. “You can. I know you can.” her words carrying a gentle nudge of encouragement accompanied with a soft smile. “But anything that helps you.” She decided to also follow the instructions she had given Jenny, and raised her arms as well, she wanted Jenny to know she was not just making fun of her. “I’m Fern, and I love nothing more that skateboarding, the freedom I feel cruising on the board is unlike anything else.” she thought for a second about her passion, genuinely forgetting everything going on for a second.“What else, I love volunteering for anything that’s social activism. You know, Amnesty and stuff.” She laughed a little and then followed up with: '“And, oh, its quite silly, but I do also love crocheting”.
She then studied Jenny for a second in silence, before saying: “So, what about you?”. She knew she had to get Jenny talking, that was the best way to bring her out of the anxiety, so she hoped this had made her comfortable enough to at least share a little bit.
