Omg i remember we went to italy with erasmus programm and a friend of mine is named Despina (Despoina spelled but it’s pronounced De-spee-na) and people there were pronouncing it des-poi-na and she was like: “It’s de-spee-na!” and then my other friends and i would joke about it :rofl:

Mine is pretty easy to pronounce, but there are some people who say Merry-Anna instead of Ma-ree-ah-na. Also some people have confused it with Mary-ella or Maria Elena.

It’s pronounced “sha-knee” (a as in ant)

I don’t mind “shaah-knee” (with an elongated aa sound)

I hate when people put the stress on the “ni” part and it becomes “Sha-KNEE”, though

Most people never pronounce my name right and it’s annoying.

Like, my name is Lavanya.

And it’s correct pronunciation is Laa-one-yaa.

How it’s actually pronounced:

  1. La-vaah-niya
  2. Luv-aanya
  3. Luv-unya
  4. Laavaanya

It’s annoying sometimes but hey, it’s not someone’s fault my dad wanted to give me a complicated name. (Even if it’s not that complicated a name.)

Sometimes they spell it wrong and that can be pretty annoying. Especially if I already told them lot of times and they get mad when I correct them :roll_eyes:
