Lol ok. When you find a way to handle things that is āfairā, above the law, doesnāt make us lose a whole lot of money and doesnāt allow the Forums to descend into unadulterated chaos, let me know ok
For now, Iāll stick to the rules I put a hell of a lot of thought into and the guide that explains exactly how you can stay on the staffās good side.
Also, like⦠spreading out power to 3 other people so that I donāt have all the power and I can separate myself from decisions when theyāre too personal?
In all seriousness, though. Saasha was an asset to the team and she had to leave to focus on her studies, which is 100% fair enough! Sheās on my ForumStaff Dream Team though!
Hmm I do understand why you feel this way and Iām not going to dismiss your feedback. Obviously we care about getting more users, for this forum to survive we need to be able to expand and grow. Shannii has said before and I guess Iāll remind you again that the forum costs money to run, so attracting more users who have the potential to help with that is always a goal. With that said it is not the only things we care about, this community has so many users it is very difficult to be friends with every single person so we hope they can find their own friends on here by giving them a space to voice their interest and find like minded people. Trust me if I had the energy to talk to and engage every single user I would, my PMs are always always open to everyone. We want to build a community here but in order for that to happen we need to grow. I hope you can understand.
Aw, Iām sorry if it comes across this way. What we really want is some new awesome people to join our forum family. We want them to enjoy the forums and stay engaged. Not just more users in numbers.
I totally agree. I see all the public threads as an invitation to all members to join in the discussion. Almost all active members are up for making new friends and maybe even have a pm. We should definitely strive to make this forum as welcoming and friendly as possible. But what I would like is that the new members feel comfortable enough to join in different activities without a personal invitation. One awesome thing that we could inform them about is to join the discussion and announcement tags. Personally invite them to everything seems a bit pushy if they havenāt expressed any interested. Thatās just me though. So a combination of initiative on the new members part and on us already active members would be great.
You definitely could help us with this if youāre a user and feel like this might be an issue. I frankly donāt see this as a reason for the low activity because like you mentioned most people think that this forum is very welcoming and friendly.
If the forums donāt start paying for themselves soon, Iāll have to shut them down! More users means more chances for the Forums to pay for themselves (sponsorship opportunities etc).
We also have 500 users. Most of the new people who join arenāt active after the 1st day, and most of the staff members have 500 other things that we need to do to keep the activity up.
People seem to forget: this place is costing me over $100 a month to run and I make $30 back from it. Thatās over $70 loss each month! Itās not that I donāt care. Itās that I canāt afford to give everything I want to, and if I stopped caring about gaining new users, a lot of people would lose their safe space.
Though Iām the owner and it seems like weāre really successful, this place is currently bleeding money. Iām a volunteer forking out quite a lot of my minimum wage salary to make a place that people can make new friends and discuss what they want. I would love to spend all my time talking to you guys and making you feel welcome, but I work two jobs and then I come on here and see that the activity has dropped and I start to freak out because I put a lot of work into this place and in over a year since this place has been opened, Iāve spent over $1000 to keep it up. Itās hard. Plus, the mental health isnāt great right now
I really donāt mind people spending time on the Episode forums. Itās not my concern, really. I donāt see why someone would want to spend their time and resources on trying to get the Episode RP section back when they donāt want you, though. You have a place here that is begging for active RPers and does everything it can to make this place a fun one to RP.
I just donāt have the time, and the staff members who actually spend their time on here either have to pick up the slack because there are some staff members who donāt do much. They donāt have time to reach out to people, either, with all the flags and games and things they do for the Forums. I wish I could produce more time and money out of my ass for this place, but itās hard right now.
There are many reasons why the Forums are struggling. We lost adsense. We donāt have enough people who want to join the Restricted Section. We have a lot of users who donāt actually use their accounts once they make them.
The thing is, activity isnāt the thing that stops us from struggling. Itās just a start.
I can give you a bunch of reasons why the Forums are failing, actually:
AdSense bye bye
Not enough people old enough to get the Restricted Section
More users actually means more expensive forums.
Some of the users we have are spreading misinformation. I mean, Iām a lot of things, but a tyrant isnāt one of them. I set up the staff as a way to get away from the discipline side of things. Iām not involved in that, but when something goes wrong or someone is upset, despite the fact that I do everything I can, people still act like Iām out to get them. Iām starting to lose faith, tbh. I really think I might as well close this place down.
Some staff members donāt put in the work.
This place is a safe space for a lot of people. If I canāt run it anymore, itās not just me who suffers. In fact, itās a load of my pocket.
Oh and also, all we can do is extend a hand. We canāt make people take it. Many of the staff members and awesome veteran users let people know that they can message them if they need anything. I know @Duckling for example tells people that she is always open if people want to find new friends.
In the future, we will make some more meeting and matchmaking type events to help people make friends, but thatās what we need the new staff for!
