Even if this is four months old, I’m going to assume the user is still on the forums today. Third-person is usually a tricky one to write with if you do not want to use pronouns as much. One way, to cut down on the pronouns is to use their actual name in the sentence. As much as, I want to say there is no way to get by with less description because there isn’t. Usually, cutting out of the pronouns is where you would need to bring in more description to help relieve you od using an enormous amount of pronouns. here is an article you can read. It might help you out more.
Hmm I would suggest looking at drawn face claims as well. You can always download a Paint By Number image to use a face claim from a Paint by Number app. You can also go to my thread https://forum.shanniiwrites.com/t/face-claims-pfp-character-images-cute-practice-drawing-images-thread/12179 for face claims from the apps I use. It’s best to get what the character looks like down first before you build up the personality of the character. I think asking yourself these questions would be best:
What type of hair color does your LI have? What type of hairstyle are you looking for?
How innocent of a face are you looking for? Baby Face? Pretty boy?
How tall is he? What is his body built like? Soft? Athletic? Medium Build? Plus Size? Skinny?
Where does he come from? Is it a fictional place inspired by a real place?
With the last question, if your story is based on a real place then you should try to stick with names from that region so that way the character will feel more natural. If you don’t tie the character to an anchor in the real world then it will become hard to find what you are looking for.
You need to bring a realism to the character. It’s best to use character questionnaires to help you get a better grasp on the personality of your character. I will link a few threads below to help you out. Most of the time you have to ask yourself “What would you do if you were your character?”. Keeping that mental note when asking yourself questions will help with making characters. Never forget to add flaws! It’s fundamental element of the character which makes them more relatable. These are a handful of top threads that go over a character’s personality. When it comes to clothing I would look for clothes that aren’t in a face claim. It’s always best to pick them out separately because like you have run into the clothing doesn’t match your character. I would also suggest roaming the RP section which can help with getting into more detail with your characters as well.
This is a good question. In all honesty, it’s better to write in Second Person or Third Person for novels. You can write in First Person but you run into the issue of description is limited. Most descriptive scenes use Third Person because they have a broader range of writing techniques to use. If you were to go with First Person then I would suggest writing the novel like a journal entry style. Here are some links to help you figure out which one you want to use instead.
@ShanniiWrites actually made a blog post on how to not write Mary Sues. I’m going to post that link below. The best way to not create a Mary Sue is to make sure your character isn’t overpowered or robotic. You need to add a humane trait to their personality which hinders them in any way. Always bring in supporting characters as well. Now, what I listed above is not the only thing you would need to do in order to make the right changes to your character. I highly recommend the posts I link in this reply.
I would definitely talk to Cali about her character to get advice here on the forums. Here are a few links that could help you out. I’m not used to writing androgynous characters so I can only direct you to other sources for now.
You’re going to want to invoke emotion from the reader that makes the character relatable when she gets into trouble. Check this link out to see if it will help you out. The next link is to make sure you don’t mess up the strength of your female character. The last link is about how to create a female character without them being annoying even to you. If you are getting annoyed then most likely the readers will get annoyed as well.
When you start writing about stories based around a royal court then you will need to do some research for this. Definitely watch shows based on monarchs, read books based on monarchs, and make to look for articles when it comes to looking up tips. I have already found some articles that should help you out. I’m also linking the article I wrote about writing upper-class characters. You will need to go over both the characters and the court system in its entirety to understand how to write this type of story. https://ryanlanz.com/2016/07/05/world-building-how-to-write-a-fictional-royal-court/
So, you are actually writing two very hard types of writing in one character. In order to write dark humor you have to execute the writting in a certain way. I think the first three articles below should help you out. I’m going link below some more about “Masking” since that seems to be what you are talking about I think. Though there are two other ways you can go about this since it follows the line of someone who is either a moody teenager, someone who has bipolar Disorder, or even someone who has Borderline Personality Disorder. Writing about mental disorders can be tricky. You will want to read many articles about that certain disorder in order to portray it correctly. You need to make sure you don’t hurt the people who suffer from these disorders. Just remember that these disorders also range from mild to severe cases so it’s different with each person. https://thanetwriters.com/essay/technicalities/how-to-write-black-comedy/
