New York city, February , 2040.

”Ms. McCarthy, you have a visitor.” the assistant followed Veronica through the hallways, trying to divert her attention to the girl waiting in her office. She kept walking around, talking on the phone (work stuff I swear) and doing things. ”do they have an appointment?” she asked, expecting her assistant to know her schedule by now

”No, but-”

”No buts, I don’t have time for this Alice, tell them to call the office and schedule an appointment” she replied, dismissing the idea as she went back to focusing on her stuff, walking back to her office, as her phone rang again. Important busy people get that sometimes I suppose.

What was she even doing, you’re probably asking. Well, the past few years haven’t been too hard on her, she lived (surprisingly) her life, got married, got divorced, became a successful lawyer and businesswoman and yada yada yada. In a way, even the relationship between her and Valerie was only getting better with time, she no longer resented her sister for everything that had happened in the past, but there was still something different, their relationship never got as close as they were when they were kids. But I mean, it’s way better than nothing isn’t it?

”*business business work related stuff very smart sounding words and it is important the law says something don’t forget to be at court on time yada yada” she was on a work related call as she walked into her office, just to find a random girl sitting there. ”John, I’ll call you back” she told the man on the phone and hang up ”yes, may I know who are you, and why are you in my office?” she asked the stranger on front of her, crossing her arms as she waited for an answer.

”I’m your daughter”

flashback, London, 2022

”Don’t do this to me, I can’t handle this on my own” she almost begged, looking at the man in front of her in the eyes, praying that she wouldn’t have to handle this all by herself. ”this is your child too”

”Veronice please, you know I cannot help you with this. I am a married man, I am a public figure, I can’t just waltz around town and have random babies out of wedlock.” the man responded ”do you know what would happen if my wife heard about this? Or my mother? She’s dying either way at least let her go without thinking I’m a failure. Or even worse, what if the press found out?. My life will be ruined, I will be the shame of my entire family and I cannot let that happen. For that matter I want nothing to do with your baby, if I knew about this earlier I would have wished for you to abort it, so as far as I know it has nothing to do with me.” he added coldly and walked away.

It was the last time she saw him.

And there she was, alone, with a baby she didn’t want, and with nobody to help her through it.
How did she even end up in this situation? Well, having an affair with a married man is never a good start. Especially not with this specific kind of married men. They do things , and then try to cover up their mess as if their actions have no consequences. Well guess what? they do. There a bloody consequence probably crying to an incompetent babysitter at these very moments, and what the hell was she supposed to do about it? She was in no place to be a single mother, not to mention she didn’t even want children. Or at least not in her 20s.

end of flashback

So as you probably guessed, considering this random girl came by her office about 18 years later claiming to be her daughter, Veronica never actually kept up with being a single mother. Or even a mother in general. Did she regret abandoning her own child? To some extent, yes, but she didn’t expect this to be happening now.

”You… what?”

part 2

Beryl heights, January 2040

Turns out that’s what you’re supposed to do when your family isn’t your actual family, you get a DNA test. (remember that in a few months Diego)
Not like she was unhappy with the “family” she got, I mean it’s just one person it’s not really considered a family is it? Well I don’t know, either way, at this point in her life, Florence had just turned 18, and for her birthday present for herself, she wanted to find out her real origin. Where the hell did she come from? Because honestly even Cornell didn’t know, so who better know than a DNA test? who were her parents? Did they die? Did they just abandon her on the street like some kind of garbage? Well, let’s find out.

”Here are your results miss Carter, just sign here are your free to go” the receptionist at the dna testing told her, handing her a bunch of different papers.

”thank you” Florence replied with a light smile, signed the stuff and left the building. This was it, the answers she had been looking for were in her hand. Looking at the papers, she read carefully and found out… well… she could have had a very different life. Also she found out that most likely her parents are both alive, or at least one was for certain, and it wasn’t someone she was expecting.

New York City, February, 2040

”You… what?”

The woman who apparently was her birth mother stared at her in shock, I guess you don’t expect your kid to waltz up into your office one day after you completely left them to rot in the street am i right? But surprise, ms… McCarthy.

”Im Florence, your daughter. Or at least biologically, because you have never been a mother to me” she told her, examining the woman in front of her. Needless to say, she was beautiful, but for some reason also familiar, very familiar. How could that be? She had never met that woman in her life? Not to mention she lives all the way out in New York, which is just far. The chances of them meeting before at an age where she could actually remember things were approximately zero.

”oh dear god” the woman said, putting her hand over her mouth. ”Florence” she repeated, looking at the girl in front of her. She was so grown, looking so confident and beautiful, though in a way she also looked a bit like her father which wasn’t the best but she did take the good genes out of that horrid man.

”Care to explain?” Florence asked, raising her brow as she waited for an answer. Just a little something to explain to her why her life was the way it was. How did it come to this?

”how did you-” she started asking how she even found her, and was interrupted by someone knocking at the door ”ms. McCarthy the Florida office representative called-” the assistant started, only to be stopped by Veronica ”Alice please, can’t you see I’m busy?” she asked the nice assistant at the door, gesturing at the visitor she told her about earlier ”oh- I’m sorry. I’ll tell them to call you back” she added and left the room, gesturing a subtle smile to the girl sitting in the chair in front of Veronica.

”I took a dna test. I wanted to find out where I actually came from and as you probably could guess you were the most… approachable” she said, considering her oh-so-respectable father wasn’t exactly in reach. I mean he was, but not as simple as walking into his office unannounced. ”lets just put it that way. I don’t need you, just as much as you don’t need or want me, I just want to know why, and how did my life end up the way they did?”

”Yes. Of course.” Veronica looked away, taking a deep breath as she tried to figure out what to say. How does one even start explaining when it comes to matters like this? Nothing she could say would justify her actions, there are many different ways to handle an unwanted pregnancy, this was not one of them. Or at least not a good one.
Veronica sighed ”I didn’t- well… I was only twenty years old when I had you, I had nothing, my life was as chaotic as they could get” she started explaining ”your father… well, when I told him I had a baby, he didn’t want anything to do with me anymore because he was afraid of an outrageous scandal or some bullsht that could ruin his precious reputation and marriage. ” she explained. I mean, if your marriage is so important to you why the fck you out having affairs in the first place? Ha? Thought about that? Probably not. Men.

”I couldn’t… ” she took a deep breath and looked back at Florence ”I couldn’t raise you” she told her, which wasn’t technically true, she just didn’t believe she could. ”so you decided to leave me out in the street?” Florence replied ”you can’t raise me, but the streets? Sure they can” she snorted and rolled her eyes at the woman’s excuses. ”i can see now that wasn’t the right thing to do, but try to understand, I was young, I was lost, I had nobody. I would have done it differently if I could go back, but look at you now, you’re all grown and beautiful, you survived just right and I’m sure it only made you stronger” Veronica added, gesturing at the girl

”and none of it was thanks to you. You ruined my life, Veronica. As messy as your life was, imagine what it’s like to grow up on the streets as a bloody child all on my own. You could never understand that with your fancy suits and your fancy office with these stupid fancy floor to ceiling windows, admit it, you probably never had a hard day in your life. You were probably born into this rich entitled family and had an affair with the prince just because you can, then just dropped me off in the trash like your actions have no consequences. Well guess what? They do.“ she started going out on her, for all the trauma she caused her as a child simply by not being there. She could have had such a different life at this point, she wouldn’t have to do all the things she had done to survive, she could actually fit in with the people around her, and not be the weird secretly poor new girl that steals things and works at a fcking strip club just so she can live like a normal person

”Florence, please-”

”don’t-” Florence stopped her ”you don’t get to florence, please me. You know, when I originally did the test, I kinda wished to find out my birth parents were dead, just so I don’t have to live with knowing for a fact that i wasn’t fcking good or important enough for them to even fcking want me. ” she admitted, and got up from her seat ”why did I even come here? I don’t even know what I was expecting. So thanks for nothing, enjoy your fancy pathetic life.” she finished and just walked out, banging the door behind her.

Vegas, 28th March 2040

The only thing keeping Annie with the unwanted group was knowing that they would probably have a better idea of locations than she did. So, the moment they stepped into the chosen casino bar, she quickly dispersed - because the only thing that could make this whole thing with her, Ricky and Paige is if she was stuck with one of them for longer than necessary. Yes, that included Paige too. Honestly, she was more mad at herself than Paige. For whatever reason, she had always made it clear that she hated Annie, before and after finding out they were sisters. Who was Annie to think that it had changed? How could she have been even slightly surprised when finding out? But that wasn’t something she found necessary to unpack right now.

Because Annie wasn’t at all interested in gambling - which further begged the question as to why she was brought on this stupid Vegas trip in the first place - she took herself to the bar part of the establishment. What she soon realised was that someone else had a similar idea.

Quinn Castillo had unknowingly taken the seat next to her. Because there was no chance this would have been a conscious decision. After a fleeting glance at his face, Annie slid the shot she had just ordered along to him. “I can’t tell who needs it more,” She commented as she looked straight back ahead, as she ordered a new one. With all the people she needed to hold distaste towards recently, maybe she can put this one on hold. Just for today. “Who’s great idea was it to come here anyway?” No. That wasn’t what she was really asking: “And who was the genius behind the guest list?”

Water Balloons - April 7th, 2021

She warned him that this would happen. Sure it had been a year since the threat, but he still had to have known it would eventually happen. Really it was his fault for not being prepared. Sure, a normal person wouldn’t have acted on a joking threat from a year earlier, but this isn’t any ordinary person we’re talking about. We’re talking about Ketziah Drake, and she had been planning this for a while.

Andy was performing, Kasper was watching Kaya, and all Ketziah had to do was wait for the perfect moment. Watching, she waited for the song to end before stepping out from backstage. Andy didn’t see her as she walked up behind him, and by the time he turned around there wasn’t time to react before she threw a second water balloon right at him.

His shock quickly turned to a slight smile, likely thinking back to the warning she had given him a year earlier on the bus. At which point, he stopped, taking off his wet shirt, only to be hit with a third and final water balloon as she stepped closer towards him. “I told you this would happen.”

“You did, and I should have waterproofed myself.” He said, like he had said back when they were taking on the bus.
“Should I be worried about payback coming my way?” she questioned in a teasing tone, closing the distance between the two, so the words between them were a mere whisper.
“Just wait until I get home…” His smirk said it all, there may be revenge, but it would be far from unpleasant. “I’ll be ready.” she said, biting her lip ever so slightly, just before kissing him right there on stage. It got a reaction out of the crowd of course, some tired of the interruption, but others still who were just as interested in their interaction. “Alright rockstar, get back to your fans, I’ll see you after.”

15 year old Ari, the curling iron incident

It should have not been any surprise to Ari Lee, why she was not the favorite child and why her brother acted the way he did to her now when she is the way she is now. But to Ari? the way she is now is not really a problem to her, she feels like people exaggerate how btchy she is, after all she’s just a fifteen year old girl like grow up. Sure, a normal fifteen year old is not doing this, a normal fifteen year old would not be doing what Ari is doing right now, and what is she doing right now you might be asking? Well, to answer the question Ari is with her little friends playing a ‘game’, the game was really fun you see, the game involved a girl who had gotten Ari upset named Diana who was currently being held by someone of her friend so that she wouldn’t escape.

“So, tell me why did you report me to the principal? Do you know the amount of fcking trouble I am in you btch.” The girl shook her head quickly as she cried,

“Shut up, shut the fck up, How are you crying when I should be the one crying? I could have gotten fcking expelled because of you, I just-” Ari grabbed a curling iron from who was using it to curl her hair, her friend yelled a ‘hey’ but shut up when Ari turned to glare at her, Ari went face to face with Diana as she pointed the curling iron that was hot to her mouth, “Didn’t I tell you to shut up? You want me to put this in your mouth?” The girl was really starting to piss Ari up, she wanted to light a cigarette and use it to burn the girl’s face after all she would be doing the world a favor. No one would have to look at the ugly btc face again, it was too bad that Ari Lee didn’t smoke nor owned any cigs, it would have been fun burning the girl’s entire face, too bad you could go to jail for doing that and although going to jail would have made Ari’s parents paying more attention too her she really didn’t need that in her records. She is trying to have a good future after all.

“Please don’t, Please Ari i’m sorry, please i’ll do- i’ll do whatever you want, please-”

“Really? You will do anything she wants?” Her friend, the person who Ari took the curling iron from stood up and walked towards Diana giving her a wolfish grin, “Ari, tell her to check if the curling iron is hot enough, it’s not curling my hair properly so I want to know if I should hit it up more.”

“You’re giving me orders now?”

“Maybe?” the friend said with a smirk. If this was anybody else, Ari would have kicked them, would have pushed them down the stairs but this was Fria, so Ari simply smirked along and let a giggle. “But no, friend, I’m giving you suggestions”

“I like your suggestion, how about instead of putting this in your mouth, you tell me and my friends if this is hot enough for dear fria.”

The two boys holding her dragged her towards a stage where she could lie down as she screamed no, ‘please’ ‘I will tell the principal’ -which earned her a smack from Fria so she quickly switched it too, ‘if you let me go right now, i promise not tell anyone’

“Come on, I thought you said you will do whatever I wanted.” Ari mocked, “You’re making me sad right now, you gave me a promise and you won’t even bother fulfilling it.”

“Y-YOU guys know this … is a crime… right? You guys could get arrested?"

“Huh? but I am just using the promise you gave me?”

“I thought we were friends? We are feeling weird now” Fria added in. “Tsk tsk tsk, the more you talk, the more trouble you will be in with us so it’s better to just shush. Just check if it’s hot or not and you’re free to go, i need to curl my hair.”

Ari places the curling iron on top of Diana’s hand as she screamed. Friar and the two boys who were holding Diana to restrain her from moving laughs with Ari. Ari places it on the other hand as well, which causes bigger screams and cries for her. Seeing that btch crying gave Ari much glee but it also annoyed her, she was starting to remind Ari of her younger sister which she hated,

“God, you’re screams are giving me a headache… I wonder what a burnt mouth would look like.” Ari looks at one of the boys with a smile before she presses the iron on Diana’s lips, Diana tries to scream, to yell to beg for help but nothing could come out. The boys released Diana and she dropped to the ground with a thud,

Some blood spilled from her nose and Ari and the boys looked at each other worryingly.

“Relax, my mother’s a doctor. She’s going to be fine, the bleeding will stop eventually she not dying.” Fria smirked as she bent down to look at the bleeding girl, “And if anyone asks tell them you fell down somewhere, if not a repeat will happen and we don’t want that do we?” Fria chuckles.

“And if you think reporting it to the vice principal will do anything, remember we are richer than you, we can always bribe away out of things.” Ari said with a little smirk, she twirled around tucking a strand of her hair backwards, “God, I feel so pretty, Do you agree Diana? You think i’m pretty?” Diana said nothing, her lips hurting from the burn. “If you don’t want me to burn your tongue as well, say yes.” Tears streamed down Diana’s face as she mouthed the word ‘yes’ " I knew you would thinks so too." Ari bent down so she was face to face with the girl, she was about to say something till her phone started ringing,

“My cousin is calling, let’s go.” Ari told her friends as they left the place. Before leaving, Ari stole a glance at the girl. Her lips curved into a smile, she had not gone too far, that was what the girl deserved, that was what almost everyone in this god forsaken school deserved. She wished she could do this to Clara or to Pheobe or too Logan but sadly those btches were always with someone besides Ari’s plans for them were much worse. They deserved much worse, and Ari will give them much worst. She really hated them, they were the worst of worst especially Pheobe, Logan was just a useless slt who believes that pain and suffering is truly the way to go, ‘i would rather earn my money through hard work’ ‘you guys are so selfish for not being hard working blah blah’ like ok we get it Miss. Activists, for someone who such a proud hard-worker and activist she goes to a school for the rich, what a hypocrite. If she really wanted to work herself to the top instead of using her parent’s money why not start in a school for the fcking poor why did Ari have to see her face every time she walked to school? Clara was just a girl with a major insecurities and self hatred issues, she felt bad for Adonis who was dating that girl, it must be exhausting dating such a sad excuse for a female who acted like she was a little Cinderella. Anyways, Pheobe was her most hated person simply because Pheobe was Pheobe and there was not a lot of things Ari could rip on Pheobe for, and Ari hated that also Ari and Pheobe were somewhat similar in a way that they could not coexist together. But whatever, Ari stole another glance at the girl. She didn’t think anything when she took her last glance back then but that memory of the girl will be stuck in Ari’s head for a long time, especially when Ari founded out what happened to the girl after. Ari just wanted to hurt her, make her cry and bleed but she never wanted *that.

Ari could say that was the worst thing she has ever done to someone but she would be lying, and that made it worst but Ari was not really thinking she never thinks huh?

May 11th, 1999

So what ever ended up happening to Adelaide Parker that night - stuck with a broken car in the middle of nowhere with her boyfriend who had finally bloody realized why she had been acting weird for the past few days? Well, after an hour, their tow finally arrived, and one hour after that, the two were settling into their hotel in the early hours of May 11th. Should she be exhausted? Yes. Both of them had a long day but… well… there was just one thing on her mind. So yes… Settling in was one word for it.

The minute Addie had walked into the hotel, she wrapped her arms around Leo’s neck - her soft doe eyes looking into his with an essence of innocence, yet the thoughts in her mind were far from that. “You know, I think I deserve a better I’m sorry from you after being so bloody rude all day. And actions are louder than words, darling.” With those words, her lips curved into a soft smile as her her left hand navigated to the back of his head - playing with his hair.

“I only did what you were doing, but I’m sure I’ll make it up to you,” His voice was low as he lifted her child to place a kiss on her lips, only to further push her into the wall - wrapping her legs around his. His lips went from her own, to her neck, and Addie felt her eyes close in pleasure. “I love you so much… bloody hell Leo”

The morning light woke Addie up though it was accompanied by the softest moan from her lips as she felt Leo’s arm tighten around her as she moved. Turning her body so she could face Leo, she placed her hands on his face… and for a moment she just took his appearance in. His eyes were closed, but she knew he was awake. He looked at peace almost. After a moment, she found herself brushing her thumb on his cheek. God she loved this man… so fcking much. Honestly Addie never really knew what love was supposed to be until she met Leonardo and now she knew what it was… she didn’t want it to bloody end. With a soft smile, Addie brought her thumb to his lips before bringing her own to his and placing a kiss where her thumb was.

She felt her body pressed even closer against him as Leo kissed her back. “Shouldn’t we be awake by now, Love?” Addie whispered after a few seconds, pulling her lips away. “The mechanic called an hour ago and said the car will be ready by 12, so we actually have a couple of hours to ourself.” “Oh we do? I have no bloody Idea how to spend all… that time.” Addie whispered, bringing her lips to his neck.

Perhaps that moment would have led to a repeat of last night, but she soon heard the familiar ringing of her phone. Though a frown met her lips, she turned away from Leo with a sorry before grabbing the device and picking it up. Feeling bad for… well… everything she did for the past two days, Addie leaned back against Leo before putting her phone between two of them so he could hear what all of this was about. You know what would be great? A way to make the sound louder, but perhaps that was an invention for the future.

On the other line, Miranda was calling to ask about what kind of alcohol should be in the bar. Sending Leo a ‘so this is what I’ve been dealing with’ look, Addie responded “Miranda just make it a normal open bar so anyone can order what they want. We don’t have to do anything specific. Leo should already have some alcohol that we can steal,” Addie responded, teasing her boyfriend with that last statement. Though the questions continued and after a few seconds she heard Leo whispering that he would be in the shower if she wanted to join him in a second. As much as she would have loved to… let’s just say her call with Miranda lasted far longer than any shower could have.

After about 2 hours, Addie made her way down to the lobby to… well hopefully find her boyfriend who had told her he was going to call the mechanic. And there he was. After a few seconds, she found him standing in an empty lobby - using the phone. Walking towards him, Addie wrapped her arms around his torso as he hung the phone up. “Sorry for taking so long.” Addie added before he turned around to face her. "You ready to go? The car should be ready and we still have a 6 hour drive

“So you’re telling me I bloody wasted the entire morning? Bloody hell Leo…” Addie frowned, sighing as she felt a kiss on her cheek.

“It’s okay, I’m sure you’ll make it up to me later” Leo stated with a soft smile. “You cheeky bastard, fine let’s go.”

And off they were - another 6 hour ride but this time, Addie was giving Leo all her time. Sure every now and again Miranda would call to figure out some last detail but after a bit of reassurance that Addie trusted that she’ll do just fine, Addie brought her attention back to the car ride where she brought her attention back to the man driving.

“You know, I have to say, your friend seems like a big… type A personality”

"You’re one to talk love, you’re a type A personality yourself. You know, honestly I think the two of you are going to get along, you’re pretty damn similar. "

“I find that hard to believe”

"No seriously darling. She’s shy but she knows how to get things done… just like you. "

“Fine, I don’t see it, but I guess we’ll see.”

"Yes we will…andddddddd I should probably mention she’s going to stay with us for a whilee. "

AND HERE THEY WERE. One 45 hour car ride later, one big fight, more than her fair share of make up sex and about a million calls from Miranda later and she had arrived. Where was Miranda by the way? The party was at midnight and they were… okay how did they get here early? She didn’t know - clearly her calculation skills were off but they were and guests wouldn’t be arriving for a few hours so she’d have to take her boyfriend out and bring him back but at this point, she should at least give Miranda a big ol’ hug.

You know… she would but first… she needed a bathroom. What? It had a been a bloody long ride okay. Giving Leo a kiss on his cheek, and asking a question to where the bloody hell the bathroom was in this hamptons mansion, Addie ran off while Leo grabbed a few suitcases and brought them inside. Perhaps she should have hurried along so she could find where the hell miranda was… but… let’s just say she got distracted. Walking further inside the mansion, Addie walked into a random room which she could only assume was Leo’s. That much was clear with the picture frame on the dresser of him and his sister. Addie had actually never seen her before - but she looked like Leo in a way. Beautiful, and with dirty blonde hair that fell down the side of her shoulders. Walking further into the room, she found more picture frames with Leo as a child and she couldn’t help but smile at them. There was only love in her heart as she looked at the various pictures of Leo. You know… honestly she needed to start taking more photos of her and Leo together. As if her mental wish was answered, Addie found an old polaroid camera situated in the corner of his closet. Picking it up, Addie back towards where she had last seen Leo with a sense of excitement. She wanted a photo… the first one of them here in the hamptoms. Though, as she arrived at his car she found it empty Leo no where in sight. Damn.

Walking around the mansion, Adelaide looked for the man… honestly forgetting all about the fact that she also had to find Miranda. “Leoooooo darling,” Addie yelled as she walked to the foyer - taking in all the decorations that Miranda had been working on for the past few days. Honestly it all looked really amazing. Honestly after a few minutes, it had felt like she had walked everywhere. The kitchen, the side bed rooms, the movie room. After a soft sigh, Addie walked towards the backyard.

“Leoooooooooo. Come on Love, as much as I love games, hide and seek wasn’t one I was hoping to play when we got here… LEOOO…”

Addie screamed again, though when she was going to start again she finally saw her boyfriend sitting in front of the pool. Her smile grew as she ran towards him with the camera in hand… only to realize as she was getting closer he was completely wet. “Leo?” Addie questioned, but as she walked closer she found Miranda sitting in front of him with a towel around her shoulders. The girl was shaking and Addie could see Leo holding her hand talking to her.

“Oh my god Miranda.” With those words Adelaide ran towards her dropping down to her knees and wrapping her arms around her. “Are you okay? Are you hurt? WHY WERE YOU SWIMMING MIRANDA YOU CAN’T SWIM.” Addie yelled as Miranda kept saying I’m okay, it’s okay.

“Are you okay?” Adelaide asked, looking towards her boyfriend who had been staring at the two for the past minute.

“I’m fine but maybe we should take Miranda inside and get her changed,”

“Yeah… come on Miranda… let’s get you out of these clothes” Adelaide whispered, standing up and putting her hand up to help Miranda who looked back to Leo for a second only to whisper thank you so much before walking back inside with Addie.

To be continued

Alt Universe: If Skye died before the reunion

Kai knew showing up at Jess’s place was a terrible idea. He could never begin to truly make up for everything he did to her, but he couldn’t live with himself knowing he never tried to make things right. Why Akielah had been willing to tell him where to find her, he couldn’t be sure. Maybe she just wanted to help him, or maybe she knew that he needed Jess, that she was probably the only person who could pull him back from the edge. After what he did, he didn’t deserve her kindness, he didn’t deserve her accepting his apologies. He didn’t deserve to be there.

He watched as Jess went to the door, paying for the Chinese food she was waiting for, before setting it on the counter. “I know…” he admitted when Jess said how sorry didn’t fix everything he had done. As Jess left the room, closing the door to her bedroom behind her, Kai only felt more guilt. He shouldn’t have let himself come back into her life.

For a while, Kai just sat with his head in his hands. He shouldn’t be there. Jess didn’t want him there. Scarlet would even be better off without him there. He looked to the door, considering just leaving right then. Maybe everyone would be better off if he was just gone, if he was no longer in their lives, if he didn’t exist anymore. Either way, he decided against it, for the moment at least. He simply put the food away for Jess, despite her words saying he could eat it, and went in to the guest bedroom where Scarlet was sleeping.

He didn’t know how long it had been, he couldn’t sleep. He tried, but any sound or movement Scarlet made had him awake. He may have gotten a few minutes altogether, but it was only a matter of time before she began to cry. He picked her up, cradling her in his arms, but it wasn’t enough. “Shhh. Don’t cry… I’m right here Scarlet, please don’t cry… please…” He was exhausted, at his own limits of what he could handle in every way. The one thing he could push himself to do was try to take care of his daughter, and he couldn’t even seem to do that. He didn’t know what was wrong, how to get her to stop crying.

He didn’t know how long he had been trying to calm Scarlet. It had probably only been a few minutes, despite feeling like much, much longer. He didn’t notice the door open, and only realized when he heard Jess’s voice. He didn’t mean for Scarlet to wake her up. He should’ve been the only one unable to sleep, but when she asked if he needed help, he looked at Jess unable to protest. “I don’t know what to do… She won’t stop crying…”

Shorts Series: Alternate Universe - Kai’s What If - 2037/2038

There were so many reasons Jessica Pierce abhorred her mind. She hated the cogs in her brain and how they constantly ticked… the way she remembered every… single… fcking emotion as it was happening again… and again… and again, as if those days were on repeat with no end in sight. With the way her mind worked, pain never dulled. Hell, love never… really did either. Every strong emotion was constantly on display. And perhaps time helped her lock away certain thoughts… moments. Avoid certain triggers… think about certain things less. Hey, the achohol helped with that too, especially on one particular day where she woke up knowing her babies were gone. It wasn’t the only moment, however. If someone knew what pain felt like… it was her, in more ways than one.

One of those triggers was easily Malachi Azure. And no, it wasn’t just for the bad memories. What hurt the most sometimes was the good memories. And perhaps… those were what she was thinking about those hours she was awake locked in her bedroom knowing that the man who caused so much pain… and even love was merely a few feet away. Her mind became locked in that of her teenage years, and moments with him were replaying - making her wonder if she was honestly hallucinating until the exhaustion overtook her.

Was she hallucinating? Dreaming? After all, it wouldn’t be the first time. However, that answer seemed to be an astounding no as she found herself standing inside her guest room, looking at… a shadow of the Kai she once knew begging his child not to cry. It was strange… this scene in front of her. Perhaps there was even irony in the way that a man she once even imagined having kids with was sitting in front of her, with a child of his own. Perhaps it was instinct, but she couldn’t help herself from the words that left her lips. “Do you need help?”

Despite the darkness settled in the room, her eyes didn’t need adjusting to see how tired Malachi looked. He looked… consumed. A version of himself that she… recognized but only because she had been there. And perhaps it was that very familiarity that unsettled her to her core. It was that familiarity that screamed in her head to let him inside hours earlier. It was that familiarity that told her he was broken. His voice showed that even more as he told her that he didn’t know what to do.

After another moment of staring at him, allowing her eyes to meet his for the first time since she walked in - Jessica moved towards the crying baby and wrapped her carefully in her arms. There was a sort of expertise in her touch - but after taking care of her siblings, her neices, her nephews, her cousins, Kaya, Veronica Charlotte, and even Laurel… this was honestly second nature. People always said she had a way with kids, and perhaps she did. A big part of her always wanted kids too…a family… someone to love… but clearly she wasn’t destined for that life, and over the past few years, Jessica had come to terms with that fact. “Hi Munckin, shhh, come on now… what’s the point in crying?” Jess whispered, walking with the baby towards her stroller on the side of the room. Bringing her eyes from the baby, towards the… one item Kai had brought with him, Jess kneeled down, grabbing the box of formula and a bottle, before walking the baby and herself towards the kitchen. “You know what always makes me feel better after a good cry, darling? Food. And I have this weird feeling that you’re just as hungry as I am, huh?” Jess continued. She could see Kai following her from the corner of her eye, and as she reached the kitchen, swaying her body gently, she looked towards him after putting the formula down. “Kai, can you wash the bottle and make the formula?” Jess told the man - knowing that in his state, he needed instructions, not questions.

Standing next to him, Jess continued to sway with the little girl. “So formula huh? Aren’t you a fancy one. Personally if I was going to have powdered anything, it better be chicken nuggets but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt, love.” Jess told the little girl, talking to her in a calm voice. As she spoke, Jess put the kettle on, waiting for the water to heat up just enough so that Kai could add it to the bottle. “Honestly, perhaps you should become a singer in the future. You definitely have the lungs for it and guesses what? I have connections. There’s this lovely man named Andy who would just love to take you under his wing. Don’t worry, the gig’s pretty easy. You just scream into a mic and for the most part, people cheer you on if you’re cute and I think you’ve got that part covered. Maybe even more than Andy… don’t tell him I said that.” Jess added as Kai got the ingredients together and handed her the bottle.

“Here we go love,” Jess whispered, bringing the bottle the the little girl’s lips, and after a few seconds, she was quiet and drinking. After a few moments, Jessica moved to the couch, gently rocking the girl as she drank the milk. “You look awful Kai,” Jess added after a few seconds, looking towards the man who had his eyes closed as he leaned against the wall near her.

The girl in her arms was still happily drinking as Jess stood up, walking towards her bathroom and grabbing a small container with her other hand. Walking back to Kai, Jess handed him the container. Inside were small, white circular pills - though the container had no label indicating exactly what was inside. “Do me a favor. Take two of those.” Jess told the man, before taking a seat back on the couch to watch the girl in her arms - who’s eyes were slowly closing as she finished her milk. She knew Kai hadn’t yet moved, with a sigh and her eyes on the girl she added “I need you to trust me Kai. I’ll watch her. Take two of those and go back to bed.”

Flashback:

“Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to youuuu, Happyyy birthdayyyyyy deaarr Leoooo and Angelllaaaa, happy birthday too youuuu,”

The entire room burst into claps and screams for the twins as the siblings blew out their candles on the cake - quickly followed by Addie wrapping her arms around Leo’s torso. “Happy birthday Darling, I hopeeee you liked your surprise,” there was a soft glimmer in her eyes as she said that last word - knowing far too well that Leo knew exactly what was happening since yesterday. Watching his smile, she found his lips approaching hers and after a quick peck, she heard his whisper “I loved it,”

The entire room had been filled with Angela and Leo’s friends… well most of them. Addie knew a few of Leo’s friends, including his best friend, couldn’t make it. But nevertheless, the party was an absolute hit and Miranda did an amazing job decorating the place. On the note of Miranda, that girl was absolutely crazy. Despite everything that happened this morning, she was already running around the party making sure everything was perfect even though Addie begged her to just sit down and the fruits of her labour - but nooo. God, that girl knew exactly how to make Addie worry. Despite that, Justin and Natalia had also arrived and were somewhere in the masses - but more importantly, THAT MEANT HOLLY WAS ALSO HERE who was the MOST IMPORTANT guest in Addie’s book. That was exactly why while Leo entertained the guest, Addie found a comfy spot on the couch inside and played with Holly. Though that girl didn’t seem to be lacking attention - most of the party goers giving her as much love as Addie did.

After another hour of celebrations - people were jumping in the pool, others were absolutely boncked out of their minds walking around inside, and Addie would not be surprised if some of Leo’s friends took their shenanigans upstairs. Leo had still been going around catching up with everyone, and honestly that had given Angela enough time to… what do the Americans call it… get to know Adelaide? Though honestly, it did feel more like she was being grilled with questions half the time before Angela let out a you know what, I like you and left to talk to her own boyfriend. It was already approaching 3 AM and honestly… Addie was getting a little tired.

Also, where was Leo? Wakling through the crowds of people who had been there for the past few hours, Addie smiled as she caught sight of the man who supposedly had been talking to Miranda - likely asking if she was feeling better since this morning. Approaching him, she let out the words “Mind if I steal you for a second love?” before smiling at Miranda as he soon excused himself. Taking Leo’s hand, Addie led the man towards the nearby private beach - and away from the party where all the people were. There were a few party-goers who had made their way to the beach as well, but for the most part, Addie found herself having a moment alone with the man - walking hand in hand.

“I know I’ve said It a million times but, Happy birthday my love,” Addie stated, looking up towards him as she continued to walk towards the water. It was only when Adelaide was a few steps away from the waves that she stopped and took a seat on the sand - soon followed by Leo who wrapped his arms around her almost instantly. She felt him kiss her neck and a soft moan left her lips. “You know, it’s been 2 bloody hours and I’ve barely seen you. Are you having fun?” Addie whispered, leaning into his touch. “I’d have more fun if I was alone with you.”

“Are you saying you don’t bloody appreciate my hard work, you arse.”

“”No, I do appreciate your hard work, just not as much as I appreciate you, or having you all to myself.”

“Well, Leo…” Addie started before moving her body so that she was straddling him, her arms wrapped around his neck as she stared into his eyes “I’m not going anywhere so I guess you’re stuck with me””

May 15th, 1999

“Mmmmm it’s too early to be awake Leoooo,.” Adelaide mumbled as she snuggled against Leo’s arms, moving towards his body as he kissed her shoulder. Despite her arguments about the time, there was no hesitation as she moved further into his touch. Could anyone blame her? It was a good wake up call okay.

“As much as I want to continue this, we need to wake up, Addie.”

A large frown met her lips at the now… lack of kisses she was receiving. Turning around in bed, Addie opened her eyes and pouted. “Leo the sun’s not even bloody up,” “That’s the point. Weren’t you the one saying you wanted to see the sunrise and get photos with that camera?” “Okay but can’t we do it on a day I’m not sleeping?” A laugh left Leo’s lips as he brought his hand to her face, slowly moving a piece of her bed hair out of her eyes. “No because you’re going to use that excuse every morning, plus, what’s a better morning to enjoy the sunrise than our anniversary?” A groan left Addie’s lips knowing he was right but she was tiirreeeed… and lazy, so instead, she simply wrapped her arms around his neck - a mischievous look upon her features as she said her next words. “I know something better we can do on the morning of our anniversery that doesn’t require us getting out of bed, love.”

“Mmm oh do you now?” Addie grinned as the man shifted, moving her body under him so that he was hovering above her now. Addie 1; Leo 0. “I’d love for you to tell me more about… exactly what we can do,” His words were soft as she felt his lips on her collarbone. “So how about you tell me after you get dressed and we’re at the sunset?” And instantly, she felt his body off of hers. THAT BLOODY TEASE. “You bloody arse.” “I’ll give you 20 minutes, meet me in the living room. I love you.” SHE COULD SEE THAT IDIOT GRINNING AS HE WALKED OUT OF THEIR BEDROOM. EXCUSE ME. HOW RUDE.

Despite the UTTER exhaustion she felt, Addie had pulled herself in for a quick shower and gotten changed into an outfit she would want memorialized in a photo with Leo. He boyfriend was right that she wanted photos - hence the camera around her neck that she stole from Leo’s closet the day they arrived. Walking down the stairs, she found Leo sitting on the kitchen island, dressed and with a newspaper in his hands. Holly was running around his legs - probably confused at why they were all awake sooooo early. Well, Holly, Addie had the same damn question. And GUESS what? There was still no sun out. Yep, it was THAT bloody early. “I despise you.” Addie mumbled as she walked towards him, watching as he put his newspaper down and smiled at her. “So what I’m hearing is you’re not going to tell me what we could have done in bed?” “Darling, I’m not even going to show you later.” "We’ll see about that. “Stop being cocky, you butt” “It’s not cockiness, it’s confidence… now come on. We have a little trek to make,”.

Little?

Did he say little?

IT WAS NOT LITTLE.

IT WAS EARLY, AND COLD, AND DARK, AND HE MADE HER WALK FOR MORE THAT A LITTLE BIT. How rude. They could have easily been having sex in the warmth of their bedroom right now but nooooooo. The are we there yets left Addie’s lips every few minutes - but after a while she had given up because he was GIVING HER NOTHING. Couldn’t they just sit on the beach and enjoy the sunset? Isn’t that the point of having a beach front property? Appaently no.

Okay maybe she was over exaggerating - it was like a 10 minute walk but when you’re tired, your boyfriend left you hot and heavy alone in bed, and it’s 5 something in the morning, she’s allowed to be a little, tiny bit cranky. And NOW THEY WERE WALKING UP SOME BIG ROCK AT AN INCLINE. Sigh. Though, after a few seconds, Leo let her jump on his back so at least he was good for something this morning.

After a few more minutes, Addie found herself FINALLY at the top of said hill or rock or whatever it was… but what she wasn’t expecting was for there to be an entire picnic set out. “Thank you for setting this up Jared,” Leo told the man who was there who nodded before dissapearing. There were blankets and pillows and honestly everything a girl who was up at 5 in the morning needed. Letting her down, Leo put his hand out to lead her towards the picnic that overlooked the water, and… fine it truly was a gorgeous view even though it was still dark and the stars were illuminating the water. Taking a seat, Addie wrapped herself in the blanket as she leaned against Leo’s chest.

“Fine… I guess this was… maybe worth it darling.” Addie whispered. “You haven’t seen the best part yet Addie,” “And how long until the best part?” “Give it 5 minutes,” Addie smiled towards Leo before just snuggling against him in silence for a few seconds. She watched as he grabbed the thermos and poured what looked like coffee into small cup for her, before kissing her forehead,

“What do you imagine in the future, Leo?.” Addie asked, her bright eyes meeting his in the darkness. “What do you mean?,” “I mean… I know we’ve talked about it. I’m going to Oxford next year, you’re going to take over your dad’s business… I love you, so where does it leave us.” “Are you worried?” “Not exactly worried more just… curious.”

Addie didn’t exactly get an answer to her question as her eyes caught sight of some light in the distance. Looking ahead, Addie found a breathtaking view as the sun rose over the water. “Leo, oh my god look,.” Addie squealed, moving forward slightly “Wait we need a photo” Addie yelled, grabbing the camera and setting up the automatic timer. With that , Addie ran towards the side and fixed the camera on a rock before she ran back towards Leo, and wrapped her arms around him and laughed as she set herself up for the first photo. Kissing his cheek, she posed for the camera until she saw the flash. Running back towards the camera, Addie once again pressed the clicker before walking back towards leo and pulling him off the floor so she could get a candid of them looking at the sunrise.

“One more, darling” Addie mentioned, walking back towards the camera again and pressing the clicker - but this time, as she turned back around, she found Leo on his knee with a ring in his hand. And with that, Addie found herself stilling with shock. “Adelaide Parker. To answer your question, I don’t know exactly what the future for us means, but I know I want you in it. I want you in it for the rest of my life because I love you. I-,” Adelaide didn’t let him fininish before she ran and wrapped her arms around him, practically tackling him to the ground with a kiss. She didn’t even care about the camera going off - what she cared about was the man in front of her. “Yes, yes darling, yes.” Addie whispered in between kisses as she let him put the ring on her finger.

Life of the Party - Februrary 5th, 2021

“WOOOOOO LETS PARTYYYYYY” Riker screamed… or better yet… did his best to scream. After being on tour for the past few weeks, let’s just say his voice was giving out on him - hence the struggle in getting those simple words out. Simple, but, OBVIOUSLY important words. BUT IT WAS FINE. Apparently girls loved a deep, rugged, grunted voice or so Elodie had told him when he was facetiming her last night. SEE JORDAN, HE COULD SCREAM ALL HE WANTED, ELODIE GAVE HIM PERMISSION. And, honestly, it wasn’t just his voice why people couldn’t hear him okay. It was also the blaring music of the club they were in. Yep, they had all officially dragged Jordan out to a club for the FIRST night since starting the tour. Usually it was “No we need to sleep” or “We have a 3 hour flight to the next city” or “RIKER STOP JUMPING ON THE BED” NO, Jordan, HE WOULD NOT STOP JUMPING ON THE HOTEL BED BECAUSE HE WAS BORED AND HE WANTED TO GO TO A CLUB AND YOU WOULDN’T LET HIM.

Well.

UNTIL TODAY. The band and him had a 3 day break until their next concert in Philidelpha. And where were they now? LITEREALLY ONE OF THE BEST CITIES IN THE WORLD… NEW FCKING YORK. Aka the place with the best clubs, best food, best people aka Riker was on his kneeeeees begging Jordan for them all to go to a club for the past 2 hours until Jordan finally agreed and THATS WHY THEY WERE IN A LIL VIP BOOTH WITH LOUD MUSIC, PEOPLE DANCING, AND RIKER SCREAMING AT THE TOP OF HIS LUNGS WHICH HONESTLY WASN’T VERY LOUD because yes, he had basically lost his voice. A large grin met his lips when the waitress brought out their first round of shots - saying some sort of flirty statement to Jordan as she handed him something special from her. Jordan being Jordan just politely thanked her, but like comeeeee on, he had a girlfriend. And Jordan made that veryyyyy clear at every interview he was at sooooo… you got a good one Sadie. ANYWAYS, Riker’s grin grew as he held his hand out towards Jordan knowing that since the lovely Jords didn’t drink, that was alllllll his.

Remember his firsssst drink of the night? Weeeeeeell… it wasn’t his last. Like totally not… like… he was wasted… like… he was currently standing on top of the bar basically doing a strip show for everyone in the room while Jordan was probably shaking his head at him somewhere. BUT HE WAS HAVING FUN OKAY. 10 minutes ago he was even DJing for a 30 minute set because he was INVITED up there. Okay… maybe invited was a stretch… maybe he just went up there and made some puppy dog eyes at the DJ-er and then ended up Djing DUHHHH.

BUT IT WAS A GREAT SET SO DON’T JUDGE HIM. Jumping off the bar, Riker turned towards the bartender, putting his pointer finger up indicating that he wanted another shot. THE NIGHT HAD JUST STARTED OKAY? Even though it was probably like 2 am and Jordan made him promise that they’d be home by 1 but… YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE.

“You know, I think you’ve had enough shots tonight, Handsome,”

Turning towards the voice, Riker’s eyes widened. The girl in front of him looked… like exactly like Elodie. Like… exactly. LIKE OMG RIKER HAD FOUND HER DOUBLEGANGER IN NEW YORK. Scrunching his eyes, Riker tried to get his slightly blurry sight to focus on her… and honestly… it looked like Elodie. HE NEEDED A PICTURE OF THIS TWIN TO SEND TO HIS GIRLFRIEND. Wait… did she call him handsome. EXCUSE ME HE HAS A GIRLFRIEND MAAM.

“ummmmmm you’re… verrrrrry pretty but I don’t think my girlfriend would like you flirting with me” Riker frowned, forgetting about the fact that he had a shot waiting for him. He saw her laugh a little, before she GOT TOO CLOSE TO HIS PERSONAL BUBBLE AND TOUCHED HIS FACE.

“You’re an idiot Riker, it’s me,” “Okay “Me” but you heard what I saaaaidddddd, I HAVE A GIRLFRIEND and she’s beautiful and she looks like you but that doesn’t mean I think you’re also beautiful because I only think she’s beautiful and even if you look like her… oh… wait can I get a selfie with you because you look like her and she wouullllld never believe me that I met her twin because like… she has a twin but her twin isn’t an identical twin you know… YEAH OKAY SMILE” Taking his phone out, Riker struggled to click the little button to take the photo but after like… 7 tries HE GOT IT. Mumbling a thanks, despite being extremely inhebriated, Riker sent the photo to Elodie and then… well then he started to miss her and this girl was reminding him of her and he wanted to just… TALK TO HER OKAY. So he called her. It was weird though because riiiighhhht when he called her, the phone of the girl in front of him started ringing and he saw her ROLL HER EYES, and pick up the phone and when she was talking, it was the same thing Elodie was saying.

Wait.

THAT WAS ELODIE. Dropping his phone, Riker put his arms around Elo and spun her around. IT WAS HER. Kinda sad that Riker didn’t find Elo’s twin and noooooo we’re not talking about Dorian but GUESS WHO HE FOUND HE FOUND ELO. ELO FOUND HIM. SAMEMEEEE THING OMG.

This was the best night.

Alt Universe: If Skye died before the reunion

Kai felt drained, emotionally, physically, mentally. It was like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders, and it was crushing him. He knew something as simple as taking care of his own child shouldn’t be as difficult as it was, but the more his baby girl cried, the more he felt like a failure. A parent should be able to know what to do for their child right away, but he didn’t, which only made him feel even more like he wasn’t good enough. Though, when in his life had he ever been enough? Kai certainly couldn’t think of a time where he had been, so he didn’t know how he ever could be enough. All he knew was that Scarlet was the only thing that made him even try to do anything. She was the only positive he could hold on to, and he couldn’t take care of her.

Kai knew he needed help, and Jess could clearly see it too. When Jess carefully took Scarlet from his arms, he could see she knew what she was doing. She knew better than he did, and all he could do was to follow along and watch her with Scarlet. When she told him to wash out the bottle and make the formula, Kai simply nodded and did as he was told. He had done it enough times to know what he was doing. Kai quietly washed out the bottle, mixing in the formula with the water, listening to Jess talking. Bottle in hand, Jess quickly calmed the little girl, who was happily drinking her milk in Jess’s arms.

For once, there was some quiet. Kai found himself leaning against the wall, eyes closed, letting out a breath he had been holding. If he could just ignore the storm in his head, it was almost peaceful. He barely noticed that after Jess told him he looked awful she stepped out of the room, coming back to him and giving him a pill container, telling him to take two. He looked at the container that was now in his hand, then back to her as she sat back down with the now sleepy infant still in her arms.

“What…” he began, stopping himself before asking about what she was giving him to take. There was a part of him that was unsure about it, but what difference would it make to not go along with it? There wasn’t a reason to not trust her. If he was being honest, he trusted Jess more than he trusted himself. “I trust you.” he admitted, as he walked towards her, to take one more look at his daughter now that she was calm. He knew Jess could take care of her, far better than he could at that point. He looked back to the container in his hand, then back to Jess. She was right, he needed to go to bed. Maybe knowing that she was taking care of Scarlet would help him actually sleep for once. With a last look to Jess, as if to thank her for watching his daughter since he didn’t have the energy to say the words, he reluctantly walked back into the other bedroom to try and sleep. He was exhausted, but didn’t feel like he could sleep. Though, perhaps while he slept, nothing would matter, he wouldn’t feel like he was drowning, for just a little while.

It felt like a long time before he managed to fall asleep after taking the pills Jess told him to, but exhaustion soon took over. When he woke up, he had no idea how long he had been out. He did feel more rested, though he was still far from actually feeling better, but that much Jess would be able to tell. There was no hiding that he was little more than the shell of the person he once was. Kai didn’t have the energy to even try and keep up the fake smiles he had put on for so many years. Walking out of the bedroom, he did find Jess. He didn’t know what to say, and after a moment, the only words he could muster were “Hey Jess…”

What If? - Jezebel never dated Mikel

Part 2

Everything had changed so much in a matter of days. Jezebel had been kicked out of her own home, a friend had died, Daniel was back in her life as her brother, and most of all she had Jordan in her life again too. Two years apart, and now she was pregnant with a child that wasn’t his, but maybe that wasn’t exactly an obstacle to overcome. Of course, things were still a bit uncertain, but the world had brought her and Jordan back together. However, there was one new certainty in Jezebel’s life, the Parker family. In making up with Daniel, she had gained a family, and a place to call home. She couldn’t go back to the Sloane household, but within just a couple of days she was fully moved into the Parker home. In just a few days, she went from Daniel treating her like she was worthless, to being made to feel like she had a family. She had been more supported in a week than she had in a very long time. The Parker family was now her family, but most of all Jordan made her feel safe and cared for in a way she needed more than anything else.

As Jezebel heard the question, all she could do was look to the ground and close her eyes. Of course she knew she would be asked if she had ever been pregnant before, but it still hurt to think about, and that was the one thing that wasn’t made easier by having Jordan there with her. Jezebel had always thought that maybe one day she would tell him, but she never knew how she would be able to say the words. For the past week, she had done her best to push the memory of two years earlier out of her mind. Thinking about it only made her more scared, and that fear was far too much for her, especially before a doctor could actually tell her that this baby was healthy and fine. Though, it seemed that this would be that day, the day Jordan would find out what happened after he left. The only answer she could give was to nod, an answer that she knew would be a surprise to Jordan. She had been pregnant before. “Two years ago…”

At first, Jordan didn’t say a word, and Jezebel continued talking with the doctor, knowing she had to tell Jordan everything. After a few moments, Jordan turned to her with a whisper, “You were… pregnant?”

At Jordan’s words, her attention went completely to him. She looked at him, giving a slight nod. “I didn’t know how to tell you…” She knew he needed to know, and she had always planned to tell him one day, but that didn’t make it easier… the fear she was fighting to ignore, the pain she always had to bury deeper, it was all coming to the surface with the tears beginning to gather in her eyes.

It was a lot for Jordan to process, Jezebel knew that. It was something she doubted that he ever would have expected, and it was just… a lot. After a moment, she heard Jordan’s attention go to the doctor in the room, to ask him if they could have a moment alone. “What do you… how were you… well, not how clearly I know how but… you never told me… why didn’t you tell me?”

Jezebel was already hurting, thinking about the past, what happened. Every second she thought about it, pained her. Even after two years, it even having been so close to that two year mark when she realized she was pregnant this time, it still killed her inside. If anything, that made it hurt even more, and all she could do as tears started pouring down her face was to pull her knees in close, hugging her legs, barely looking at Jordan. “I was scared… you were leaving… I… I was going to tell you… but…”

With the doctor out of the room, Jezebel watched Jordan start pacing. He needed to know what happened, it just wasn’t easy for Jezebel to say. “You didn’t…I would have wanted to know… what… what happened to them?” Jordan said, walking back towards her, putting his hands on hers.

“I wanted to tell you… I was about to…” Jezebel began, before putting her head down on her knees, not wanting to look at him as she said what happened. All she could do was lightly squeeze his hand as she took a deep breath, barely able to get the words out, sobbing at the end. “I couldn’t take care of myself… I… I got sick… I was in the hospital… and… and…” She couldn’t bring herself say the last words, that she lost the baby, that it was a miscarriage, but her tears said enough.

Jezebel finally looked back to Jordan when he pulled her into a tight hug, tears in his eyes. They stayed there for what felt like a long time before Jordan finally whispered, “I’m sorry I wasn’t there.”
When it happened, the one thing she wanted was Jordan. She wanted him there with her more than anything else, but she didn’t want him feeling the same overwhelming pain she felt.

Jezebel held him tight, as though her life depended on it, as she said, “I should have told you…” for a few moments, she stayed there, before looking right at him. “I’m sorry…” She was sorry she didn’t tell him sooner and she was sorry that he had to feel any of that pain, but she was most apologetic about losing the baby in the first place. She felt like she not only could have done better, but should have done better, that she could have made things go differently, and that their baby would have made it. Which was why her next words came out as a whisper, more to herself than to him, muffled slightly as she buried her face against him. “It was my fault…”

Just as soon as the words left her mouth, Jordan moved to cup her face in his hands and kissed her. Jez didn’t know what to do in that moment, his head against hers as tears streamed down her cheeks. “Don’t ever say that. Don’t… Ever say that Jezebel. I love you, I love you now, I loved you then, I’ve never stopped loving you and that’s not your fault. You hurting right now shows me it’s not your fault and I don’t blame you for that and you… you can’t blame yourself because you are everything. You are my everything.” He said, wrapping his arms tightly around her.

He still loved her, and despite how much she blamed herself, he said she shouldn’t, because she was his everything. After losing his child, after not telling him about it until now, after two whole years, she was still his everything, and he was hers. Maybe, just maybe, with Jordan by her side she could start to believe that everything would be alright. All she could do was let out the words, “I love you too.”

2033 - Athena and the Cookies

“Zion?”

“Yes, Athena?” Zion responded as they looked up from their laptop at their niece, who was sitting on the floor across from them, doing her homework. Their wife was holding down the fort at the bakery so that they could babysit Athena for their brother and her dad. Having no children of their own, Zion was always more than happy to watch Athena. It gave them a nice little insight into what it would be like to be a parent and only affirmed their wish of wanting to be one.

“Do you know how to make chocolate chip cookies?” She asked and Zion couldn’t help but laugh, having expected her to be asking them a question about her homework and not their baking knowledge.

“Yes, I do.” They answered with a smile, watching as the little girl’s face lit up with excitement.

“Is it hard?”

“No, not at all.”

“Can you show me how?”

“I can, if you promise that you’ll finish your homework while they’re baking.” They bargained, having promised their brother that Athena would get her homework finished while at their house.

“I promise.” Good enough. “Can we make lots so that I can take some home to Daddy and Chris?”

“I don’t see why not.” They answered with a smile. They had no idea what their eleven-year-old niece considered to be ‘lots’ so they decided that they would just double the recipe and hope that would satisfy her.

They took their niece into their kitchen and began to pull out the ingredients needed to make chocolate chip cookies. They first helped her measure them out into little bowls so that everything they needed would be prepped and ready to go as they made their way through the recipe. It was also their way of ensuring, hopefully, as little mess as possible.

“Zion, is Chris going to marry my dad?” The little girl’s question stopped Zion in their tracks as they began to show her how to mix together the cookie batter. They weren’t really sure how to answer because even though their brother told them everything, they didn’t know what Athena wanted to hear. They knew what had happened with her mother and they weren’t sure how that affected her view of her father’s new partner.

“I don’t know. Do you want Chris to marry your dad?” They asked, putting down the utensils they were using and leaning against the counter near the girl, who nodded.

“Yes. He’s nice and he makes my dad smile. Also, if they get married, then you and I will be family and I can come make cookies whenever I want.” She answered and Zion laughed adoringly.

“Well then, can I tell you a secret?” They asked her with a smile. Athena nodded again with a large smile on her face, eager to hear what Zion had to say. “I also want my brother to marry your dad. I’ve never seen him as happy as your dad makes him. Although, they don’t need to be married for you and me to make cookies together.”

“Really?” She asked, her eyes lighting up. Zion’s smile widened as they nodded to her.

“Yep. Although, we should probably finish the batch we’re making first.” They told her, starting to give her instructions again. The cookies went into the oven just in time for Emily to come home from work and the two of them sat in the living room watching Athena doing her homework and occasionally helping her with something she didn’t understand. The two of them took turns checking on the cookies until they were done. By the time Athena had finished her homework, the cookies had cooled down enough to be eaten and so Zion put two of the cookies on a plate and poured a glass of milk, setting it down in front of a very smiley Athena. They returned to the kitchen and did up two more plates of milk and cookies for themself and their wife before dividing the rest of the cookies into two containers, one for them and Emily and another with slightly more in it for Athena to take home for her dad and their brother.

They brought the plates into the living room and sat down next to their wife. The three of them ate, talked and laughed, not acknowledging the passage of time until they heard a knock on the door. Emily stood up, brushing off her clothes.

“I’ll get it.” She announced before walking towards the door. At the same time, Zion stood up as well, collecting the empty cups and plates and taking them to the kitchen, placing them in the sink with the rest of the night’s dirty dishes. “Kevin, hi! How was your night?” They heard from the front door.

“Athena, hun, your dad’s here!” Zion called to the living room. Not long after, the girl in question appeared in the kitchen. They handed her the container of cookies for her to take home. “Go show him what you made.” They instructed and she nodded before running to the front door with her bounty.

“Daddy, look what we made!” She announced as she arrived at the door, Zion joining them a few seconds later, greeting their brother’s partner with a smile.

“That is a lot of cookies, Gray.”

“She was very adamant that we make lots.” Zion explained with a smile. The little girl thanked them for showing her how to make cookies before waving goodbye as her father shepherded her toward his car. Zion walked onto the porch, waving at her before waving at her brother in the front seat of the car. When they had disappeared around the corner, Zion wrapped their arm around their wife’s waist as they walked back into the house, closing the door behind them.

“Evie, I know it’s frustrating but you can’t keep fighting with your parents. It’s getting you nowhere. Have you even asked Danny how he feels about all this?” As he waited for his friend to respond, he heard a knock at his door. He looked out the peephole, wanting to see who it was before he unlocked it. “Okay, my cousin is here so I have to go. Please read a book or go skate or something. Anything that gets you away from your parents for a while.” He instructed, hanging up his phone before Evelyn had the chance to protest. He loved her but she was extremely stubborn.

He unlocked the door, smiling at his cousin as he opened it. “Hyun-Ae ya, annyeong!” He greeted her with a wave before stepping back to let her come in. “Jamkkanmanyo.” He said before going back to his bedroom and opening the door. Yeong-Mi was sitting at her vanity, putting on a pair of earrings. She turned her head to face him as he opened the door.

“Ne?”

“Nae sachon-i yeogi isseo.” She nodded, securing her earring before standing up and walking with Leon to the front door, where Hyun-Ae was waiting. “Hyun-Ae, je anae Yeong-Mi-imnida.” He introduced his wife to his cousin, anxiously waiting to see how she would react. Since his marriage had been outed and after the way Hyun-Ae had reacted at the after-party, he was worried about what she would think of her.

“Annyeonghaseyo.” Yeong-Mi greeted Hyun-Ae first, bowing to her and smiling to her as she straighted out.

Hyun-Ae was nervous. Her cousin Leon had invited her over to meet his wife, and she really wasn’t good at conversations. She pulled up to the house, exhaling. “Ok, let’s do this…” She muttered, walking up to the house and knocking, Leon answering the door. “Annyeong, Leon. How are you?” She asked in English, smiling nervously. Stepping in the door, she waited politely in the entryway when he went to get Yeong-Mi. She was actually kind of excited. Sure, she wasn’t a big fan of Yeong-Mi’s parents, but what was saying she couldn’t like her? Hearing the two enter, Hyun-Ae turned to Yeong-Mi, smiling awkwardly. She bowed back when Yeong-Mi did, her smile becoming less awkward. Honestly, just looking at Yeong-Mi made her feel nice. “It’s so nice to meet you, Yeong-Mi.”

I apparently don’t even have the capability of being mean to her.

Leon watched his wife, unable to deny the fact that he was a little offput by her calmness. It was the passive-aggressive calmness that meant that she was being polite despite herself and her opinions of the person in front of her.

“It’s nice to meet you, too.” Yeong-Mi replied, switching to English when Hyun-Ae did.

“Can I get you anything to eat or drink?” Leon offered his cousin as he lead them from the front door to the living room. On the cabinet underneath the tv were pictures from their wedding. One of just Leon and Yeong-Mi, one of Leon, Jae and their mom and another with Yeong-Mi, her parents and her brother. All of them wearing hanboks in varying colours. “So, Hyun-Ae, if you, um, have any questions about all of this, please don’t hesitate to ask. Or if you just want to ask Yeong-Mi questions about herself, that’s fine too.” He told her, letting know that any topic of discussion was on the table.

Hyun-Ae shook her head at the offer of refreshments, nodding when he asked if she had questions. “I’m interested to know how the marriage started. It was arranged, right?” She asked, trying to be as polite as possible. Things seemed to be going pretty well. For the time being, that was. She really wanted to like Yeong-Mi, but time would tell. “Oh, also, what’s your favorite food, Yeong-Mi? Maybe I could cook it for you, if you’d like.” You’d think that Hyun-Ae was doing this to tamper with the food, but she seriously wanted to get along with her sister-in-law.

Leon nodded when his cousin asked if his marriage had been arranged. “Yeah, I guess that’s the best way to put it. The arrangement was over a gambling debt.” He explained, feeling as if a small weight had been lifted off of his chest. He continued to watch his wife out of the corner of his eye, knowing from the way she was sitting that it was killing her to not be able to use her usual tactic of speaking in Korean to speak her mind about someone in front of their face.

She perked up when Hyun-Ae asked her a question directly. “It’s not very ladylike, I know, but fried chicken.” She answered with a shy smile. Leon noticed her body relax a little and he put his arm over her shoulders. “My oppa has a really good fried chicken recipe and he used to make it for me all the time. What about you, what is your favourite food?” She added, reciprocating the question.

Hyun-Ae nodded. “Interesting for an arranged marriage to stem from a gambling debt, but I approve. You two are cute.” Noticing the way Yeong-Mi was sitting, she cocked her head, but decided not to ask. “Personally, I think all that matters is that you like the food. If you end up getting messy, that’s ok. If you don’t like getting messy, though, that’s perfectly ok.” Thinking for a second about her favorite food, she smiled. “My favorite Korean food is Bulgogi. My favorite American food…probably ice cream. There are loads of different flavors, and so many different combinations.”

Now it was Leon’s turn to hide his true feelings as he resisted the urge to roll his eyes at his cousin’s ‘approval’ of his marriage. “I wasn’t really asking for your approval.” He responded, keeping his arm around his wife. “You’re my family and you had a right to know the truth but it’s already happened. Approval means nothing.”

After a while, Yeong-Mi cleared her throat. “So, Hyun-Ae-ya, Nam-Il tells me that your father works in the idol industry.” He turned his head to face her, wondering where she was going with this.

“Gongjunim…” He quietly warned but she looked at him in a way that he knew meant to not interfere with what she was doing.

“Tell me a bit about that. My mother was an idol and my brother is one now.” Her tone sounded innocent but as soon as she mentioned her mother, Leon clued in to her plan. He didn’t really know his uncle’s side of the story, but through getting to know his in-laws, he’d heard Yeong-Mi’s mother’s side and honestly, it changed the way he saw his uncle a little.

Well. There she went again. Hyun-Ae may have said she approved of the marriage, which she did, but what she really meant that she liked Yeong-Mi. She just…said it wrong. Awkwardness for the win! Turning to Yeong-Mi, she sucked in a breath, nodding. Uh oh. “Yes, he is. He works with groups such as BLACKPINK, BTS and Stray Kids. May I ask who your brother works with? Maybe my father knows him.”
@Caticorn - Leon
So, I know squat about Stray Kids, and all I know about BLACKPINK is that Lisa’s in it. I need a crash course.
