No one imagined this day would come. The day where Jessica and Anna finally talked… rather screamed… about something other than the niceties that had left their lips at family occasions. The ‘how’s your day been’ to the ‘weather looks swell’ – and yes, those were about as far as their conversations went. Though they both knew their relationship was far past niceties. For two sisters who shared a face; the Pierce twins couldn’t be more different from one another. They say identical twins share 100% of their DNA; though the simplicity of their personalities cannot be coded into their DNA. Rather, if Jessica and Anna are any example; they’re two peas in pods separated by billions of miles. Nothing about them was the same – from the way they thought, to the way they acted, to even something as simple as what or who they cared about.
But it all led to this moment. Everything within their 19 years of life led to this very moment as Jessica Pierce led her sister to the interior of the school. The school itself was practically deserted. No student dare miss the last football game of the year meaning everyone was so concentrated on what was happening outside that no one really cared about Jess and Anna. Well, despite a few people who had found their way in the hall – either minding their own business or others who were genuinely interested in what was happening. Andy had found himself in the sidelines alongside Kai and a few other students who had their cameras up. This was Cerulean High after all. Gossip was currency and something as juicy as a Pierce fight was absolute gold. Though Jessica didn’t care about any of that. She wasn’t paying attention to anyone or anything around them; only the pain and anger and bloody frustration she felt in her heart as she looked at her mirror image. Her sister: Anna Leah Pierce.
“What the hell is wrong with you Anna? What the fck was that,” Jessica screamed at the girl; brasher than anything else that had been said between them in years; her words echoing in the hallways. Hell; this was probably more than Jessica had said to Anna Pierce in over 10 years. Though despite the clear frustration in Jessica – it was in stark contrast to what was found on Anna’s features, which simply was best described as an uninterested, nonchalance. Anna had leaned against one of the lockers on the walls, looking painfully bored as she checked out her nails. ”I’m sorry, darling, you’re going to have to be more specific. What the fck was what? Because from what I know – I was simply sitting watching the start of what seemed to be a very dreary game and you came and decided to slap me,”
It was clear that Anna was doing everything she could to exasperate her sister. Why? What had ever happened to the happy little Pierce twins who had always gotten along at a young age; not even Jessica Pierce knew the answer to that one. And yet it was something that clearly broke their relationship into two. From little children who did everything together to what they were now.
Jess sighed; kicking the locker as her sister made every effort to once again push blame off of herself, once again. “Cut the bullsh!t Anna, I’m done. I’m done pretending that everything you do doesn’t matter because guess what, it does. And it hurts like a fcking b!tch. Like you decided to run me over and put your damn in reverse to go again. And you do it again, and again, and I never say anything. God knows it hurts but I don’t. I let it happen because I get it Anna. I get that I hurt you and I’ve said I’m sorry so many fcking times. But Anna, I’m so bloody tired. I’m tired of doing that for you.” All the pent-up anger that Jessica had pushed down over years had finally bubbled to the surface. Though it was odd; even though Jessica was screaming – it almost felt like even now she was holding back. Holding back for the sake of her little sister who probably didn’t need to be coddled. And Anna could sense it – she always could.
Perhaps that only led Anna to become angrier – physically disgusted at her sisters lack of response. “Really… that’s all you got, love?” Anna questioned. Though perhaps it was that very thing that stuck a nerve with the girl. That for some reason, Jessica never pushed back. She made It easy. Nothing was ever bloody satisfying. *“You think sorry can fix everything you bloody did? For fcks sake Jessica, you don’t even know what you did and that’s what makes you so fcking annoying. Take your proverbial Saint Mary bullsh!t somewhere else. I don’t need it. I don’t need your kindness, I don’t want your kindness. Hate me. You think I don’t hate you? I despise you Jessica. And everything you fcking stand for.” It was clear that everything Anna was saying was hurting Jess, more than it was the other way around. Well… at least on a surface level. Anna would never let Jess see more than the surface. That’s all she deserved.
Anna had started walking away at that. A scoff meeting her lips as she thought about her sister who stood behind; frozen In solitude. Though she stopped only when she heard one word. ”Why?” Perhaps her asking just frustrated Anna more. For the first time; Anna turned around and looked at her sister. Really looked at the broken girl standing in front of her. It was clear she didn’t know what she did. She never did. Jessica could act the saint, but she never cared about the repercussions of her actions.
“Why do you hate me Anna. What did I do to you that was so awful… that you stopped caring?” Jess muttered softer than a whisper. Walking back slowly; Anna looked the girl in her eye, not blinking as she kept walking forward – Jess continuing to talk. “I’m sorry about the mental institution. I didn’t know our parents were going to send you there and I visited you every day until you told me to stop,” Every world that left her lips only maddened Anna more. “… and even then, I wrote letters. And Theo… I told you I was sorry for that one… I didn’t mean for that to happen Anna. I didn’t even know you were with him.” Jess added and Anna took another step closer. Anna didn’t stop until the two were standing right in front of each other; the last words leaving being “I can’t say how sorry I am for Simon… Anna I…” and with that, Anna slapped Jessica this time. She heard some gasps in the crowd as Anna slapped her sister. “You think any of that to me Jessica. God you’re so fcking dense sometimes,” Anna yelled; twice the ferocity of what Jess had earlier.
“Jessica: You. Left. Me. We were eight-years-old and we were inseparable. And you left me. You were my sister. My other half. I fcking loved you Jess. And then one day you decided you were too fcking good for it all and left. You didn’t even ask if I wanted to come with you; you just left. Went to America, made a new life and forgot about me,”
“I never…” Jess attempted
*”DON’T YOU DARE INTERRUPT ME JESSICA SOPHIA PIERCE. We were best friends until you decided you could do better and the honest truth is I always knew you could. I just thought that you would stay. That you’d be there for me and wouldn’t disappear. So you want to know why, Jessica? You want to know why I’m p!ssed at you? It’s not because of Simon, or Theo, or even the bloody institute. I’m fcking p!ssed out of my mind because of you Jessica.”
It was all finally out into the open; Anna herself showing emotion for the first time in years. The reason she did everything she had was just to make Jessica feel what she had felt over the years being left. It always seemed Jess cared more about everyone before she cared about Anna. And Jessica didn’t have to say anything for Anna to know it was the truth. And with that; a glimmer of a tear making way to her eye, she gave Jessica who looked shocked at the revelation one last look “That’s what I thought” Anna muttered.
What neither of them had seen was the girl who had entered the space soon after. A blonde, sophisticated looking girl who arrived; watching the whole endeavor – scoffing at what was happening. “What the hell is this display?” The girl asked; no emotion in her voice as she walked towards the twins – giving her brother who stood further behind them a maniacal smile.
“Well congratulations Anna, you got what you wanted.” El stated; anger clear in her voice as she neared the two sisters. One confused; the other simply rolling her eyes. “Sorry El, I got a little distracted,” Anna stated to the girl. Though Anna had underestimated the anger of Elettra Azure in that moment. “I just think it’s funny how I get the short end of the fcking stick every time. You got your revenge on your sister and where am I, still here. Waiting for that assh0le to fall of his damn high horse,” She stated; hostility in her voice; as she neared the girls. “El calm down,” Anna stated a roll of her eyes clear but nothing anyone could say could calm the girl down. Because the next thing that happened was the stealthy removal of a knife from her pocket. “I’ll just deal with it myself – like I should have done from the very beginning,”
