"Why does it even matter?

A frown instantly met Jordan’s lips as he watched his friend. How far had his friend gone that he didn’t even care about himself? What had happened in the past few years. Jordan only regretted not being here - maybe… if he had been, he would have seen this sooner and been able to help his friend earlier on. But it was better late than never… especially in this case. “Because you matter to me,” he stated with no hesitation. Despite Mav saying he’d get better, Jordan didn’t move. He stayed in the car - waiting for the man to accept what had to be done. He truly wasn’t going to leave until Maverick went inside with him and he was glad when the words Fine left his lips. Nodding, Jordan got out of the car and opened the passenger seat for the man as he got himself out too.

Locking the car so there was no return, Jordan and Mav walked to the extravagant front doors to the registration desk at the front where, after a long conversation with the woman about the center, activities, school, and any questions he knew Maverick would have, Jordan begin filling out forms for the man next to him. Jordan had been lucky that the woman was a fan of his so they removed the waiting period and got the registration through immediately as it supposedly was one of the more high-end rehab centers for the rich, famous, and divorcee’s. Finalizing the forms as Maverick being in no condition to do so himself, Jordan returned it and watched as a man and woman in white staff clothes came out to take Maverick to his room.

“Mav… they won’t let you have your phone but I’m going to visit every day okay. I’ll talk to your dad after this and make sure everything is settled at school.” He told his friend, pulling the man in for a long hug as he said goodbye for a few weeks.

Falling: It brought upon the sensation of unparalleled dread. Everyone had that one distinct memory of falling in a dream. No understanding of what awaited one when they finally hit the bottom – mostly due to the panic of waking up, heart racing due to that very feeling. Daniel Parker, however, was dealing with a different type of ‘fall’. A fall that he may never truly ‘wake up’ from. And no, not that physical type of falling. Rather, Daniel Parker’s mental sanity had taken a dip down critical recently and it truly was just one issue after another as of late. Perhaps the incident at Candice Clarke’s funeral was just one example of how much control he was slowly losing. And maybe… just maybe that was only the tip of the iceberg because what Daniel had planned next… well… it was probably worse than speaking ill of the dead.

Daniel watched as the maids and caterer fixed his dining room table – always an extravagant affair when the Parker family had a dinner – even if it was just the three of them. They weren’t ever the type family to sit together by the tv and watch a game while eating hot wings and fries – not like that even sounded entertaining. No, they were the family to meet up once or twice every month and exchange pleasantries about life. Though Daniel and his father were closer, having more to talk about with technology – his mother was on the opposite side of the spectrum. She challenged him with what they both knew about the world, and, in particular, how they both could read people – in a sense. So, as Daniel instructed his staff to set a fourth plate – he was glad to use the excuse that it was for Jessica as she had returned… or his mother would have known something was off. Usually, Daniel would have been worried about his cousin’s wellbeing, though he had tracked her phone and found that she was at the DeLoughrey’s – which he wasn’t necessarily happy about either – though with what he had planned, it was for the best that she be away.

So, Daniel sat there with his parents, casually wearing sweatpants and a white tee, which, despite contrasting with the overly decorated room and steak that would be served in the next few minutes, was a usual for him. His father and him were having a lighthearted discussion about the newest phone his company was releasing in the next few weeks and the specs that went along that while his mother discussed having a meeting in North Korea to discuss a treaty agreement alongside the president. That was, until, the ringing of the doorbell indicated their guest had arrived… or at least… Daniel’s guest. “I got it,” Daniel stated to the maid that had started moving towards the door – his parents likely thinking it was Jessica. Oh… would they be in for a surprise.

A hand in one of his pockets, Daniel opened the door and almost immediately all of his dogs, especially the traitors Scout and Einstein, ran up to the girl that had arrived. “You made it,” Daniel smiled, attempting to maintain a casual expression hinted with excitement. Though he didn’t really have to hide the excitement, as there was something in the works. “Come on in – I hope you don’t mind. I know we usually do this stuff in the living room but I thought the dining room would be better for… that particular conversation we’re going to have,” Daniel explained leading her to the dining hall to which – surprise – his parents were waiting in, shocked at the girl making an arrival. Really only because they weren’t expecting her, the girl was already considered practically family in his household. Oh… Little did they know.

“Opps… did I forget it was a family dinner. Emphasis on the family?” Dan questioned, smiling as he watched her expression on her features as he took a seat. “Hope you don’t mind mum, dad. I just thought since Jezebel was basically family it wouldn’t matter,” Dan explained to his parents as the food started coming out. His parents greeting the girl they thought of as a second daughter to join them.

“So, Jezebel… if you don’t mind me asking. How’s life at home?” Daniel asked casually, taking a drink of water as he looked towards her with a knowing smirk. Yes, Daniel was going to make the girl squirm.

Maverick wasn’t sure about what he was doing even as he agreed, but there was no backing out as Jordan immediately let Maverick out of the car and locked it immediately before they walked into the front doors. Maverick was still second guessing having agreed even as the woman at the desk spoke. He was still barely thinking enough to have had more than a question or so, mainly being when he would be able to leave. He silently watched as Jordan filled out the paperwork that Maverick couldn’t do for himself, but before long, two members of the rehab center’s staff walked out to take Maverick. Maverick couldn’t bring himself to actually look Jordan in the eyes, but he did hug his friend back. “Take care of Mace and Maya, please?” No matter what kind of headspace Maverick was in, he knew he could count on Jordan to make sure they were alright. Not even taking into account that they had just been at a funeral, the two girls needed someone to keep an eye out and be there if they needed it. With the goodbye, Maverick didn’t have a choice other than to go with the staff as he muttered a quiet “Thank you” to Jordan. Even if he didn’t want to be there, Jordan was taking care of everything to make sure Maverick was there, where he needed to be.

The door opened in front of Jezebel to reveal not only Daniel, but his dogs as well. Even if things were awkward with the two of them, she was relieved to see the dogs again. She stepped inside, immediately taking a moment to crouch down and give the dogs, that she hadn’t seen in so long, some attention. She looked up at Daniel, slightly unsure before agreeing and following him into the dining room, where his parents were. She looked at Daniel with a glare. He never just forgot to mention something. With Daniel, everything had a specific reason, which this time meant putting her in the same room with him and his parents. They hadn’t expected her to be there just as much as she hadn’t expected them. Every word he said was meant as a dig at her. She looked to his parents, giving a small smile before she sat down at the table. “Hello again, Mrs. Parker, Mr. Parker.” Jezebel looked back at Daniel when he asked her how her life was at home. The hurt in her eyes was clear, especially to someone who knew her as well as Daniel did. “You know what my life’s like at home, Daniel. It’s not any different from what you’ve already known.” To an extent that was true, but she couldn’t exactly say just how life at home had gotten worse, even if he could figure that it was worse than she usually let on.

The whole time Jessica was talking, he tried not to give her a single answer hoping she would just shut up. There might’ve been a quiet “stop”, somewhere in between her words but nothing else. But changing the subject to him and his personal love life, he finally sighed - well, grunted, whispering, “Jesus, Jessica.” He didn’t mind her asking that, no. With what she said just seconds ago about that weird guy he didn’t mind sharing some details from his life. Two can brag about how their lives are just so exciting. “Four girls or times?” Even if it might’ve been a joke, having sex with four different girls in the back of his car was realistic but not something he’s done, the look on his face remained serious, making everything he said sound just like that. The whole time he just had his eyes glued to the road in front of him, refusing to even glance at her or acknowledge her, which she was making hard with her constant talking.

But that changed when she mentioned Emily, a girl he, in fact, has hooked up with. Sweet girl, a bit crazy but nothing he doesn’t like. If she didn’t end that story the way she did he would’ve even laughed, intrigued by the idea of having such a fan. But saying how Emily even made her back off brought a slight frown to his face. Not noticeable, of course. Even if it sounded like she was suggesting something with that, he knew that’s not what she meant. Right? She confirmed it so it’s true. Even after the… yeah. Maybe she was thinking about that day she actually left. But who knows, who cared about what was going on in her mind, he certainly doesn’t. Maybe.
“I wasn’t aware of Emily having such powers. Threatening other girls, even making you leave for four years.” He joked, slightly tilting his head to the side to look at her and see her reaction. It was the first time he brought that up while having her right next to him. And as much as he wanted to talk about that, he wanted to avoid it remembering what he found just a month ago. So without giving her a chance to speak up before him, he looked back at the round, shaking his head. “Don’t be ridiculous. You’re not walking.” He argued, offended not because she wanted to get out but because she thought he would actually let her do it. He was decent enough to care about things like that even it was about her, someone he “hated” as she said. At this time he would never let someone just walk back home.

That’s when he took a deep breath in and started saying everything he wanted to say while she was talking. “Dorian, Dori, I honestly don’t care and yes, I would really appreciate it if the next gathering was outside of my house because I really don’t want you in it. It will definitely help with the melodramatic, moody teenager act I have going.” He chuckled sarcastically, trying to recall her words, feeling his grip on the steering wheel tightening. “That song is stupid but I really didn’t want to hear about that guy that was into dressing up. Or Andy and his tattoos. Or my brother. Ok? Ok.” For a split second, he looked at her sharply, before continuing. “I just… I just don’t get you.” Mumbling, he looked away from her again.

Aline Ribeiro

She shrugged. The simple sentence he’d made held a lot of truth within it, and she knew he was right, but she couldn’t help feeling wrong. There had to be some sort of irony in the fact that she was at a classmate’s funeral—even more personally, her brother’s friend’s funeral—and yet didn’t feel upset. To her, it felt like when you went inside a funeral, it was like you had to wear your sadness. Maybe she’d been to too many funerals where the invitees didn’t care as much as they should, and so overcompensated for the visible apparent despair. Aline never really liked that whole attitude—you didn’t see her bawling her eyes out at her grandfather’s funeral—but at least now she lowkey understood the pull of the dramatic hysteria some people demonstrated.

It wasn’t really that there were too many people in their class (although that was true) and more to do with the fact that she had thought Candice was boring. Though, considering that it looked like Candice was trying to run away in the middle of a thunderstorm before she majorly crashed her car which then burst into flames… yeah, it seemed like Candice had a lot more sh-t going on in her life than Aline had assumed. “Maybe…” she murmured wistfully.

“I do want to go inside at some point, not that it matters to Candice anymore… but it’s just respecting I guess.” She wondered what his deal with funerals were. She would’ve straight up asked because she was nosey like that, but even she got that this was almost definitely not the time and place for that. “I think Candice would understand if you didn’t go inside if funerals make you not okay,” she told him softly. “You can mourn her from in there or out here or anywhere… but since you want to go in, I’ll go with you inside whenever.”

“There’s still time. It’s in June there’s still like three months.” She hadn’t had much of an idea where his birthday landed during the year, but she was happy that it hadn’t passed already. Aline clasped her hands together, smiling. “Ooh, that’s soon… ish. Soon enough to start planning!” She turned to look at him, placing her hands on his shoulders and staring at him with a startling intensity. “I swear to you, que Dios—ehm, so help me God, this will be the best birthday of your life.” She broke the moment with a gentle smile, moving back into her previous position.

“If that’s the case you’re the best bonus prize I’ve ever seen.” She laughed, nodding. “Yes, I think so too.” Gio continued on. “It’s not tho, I like you as Aline, not as Lui’s sister. Even though obviously I care about you as Lui’s sister as well, but not only. If that makes any sense.” It did make sense, she just hadn’t really thought their relationship was anything other than one between Luciano. If, God forbid, the two of them had a messy breakup or something, Aline and him wouldn’t be—couldn’t be friends anymore. It would be like a betrayal to still be hanging out with an ex her brother wasn’t on good terms with. But she didn’t feel the need to go into all of that, especially when it didn’t look like they would break up any time soon. “I get you,” she said finally, a smile forming on her lips. “I’m not just his sister to you, I’m also just me. You’re very sweet.” It made sense why Lui liked him so much to say the least. “Obviously you’re more than just my brother-in-law—sh-t, brother’s boyfriend is what I meant duh—too.”

“Maybe…”
”Just a thought” he shrugged, ”It doesn’t actually matter” he added and kicked a little stone that was next to his leg as his back was still rested against the wall.

“I think Candice would understand if you didn’t go inside if funerals make you not okay, You can mourn her from in there or out here or anywhere… but since you want to go in, I’ll go with you inside whenever.”
She wasn’t wrong, and it wasn’t like once the funeral was over he won’t be sad in a way, mourning is a journey, it takes time. It wasn’t necessarily the funerals that were his problem in a way, it was the idea of people being gone or dead too early, and knowing some of them never got the chance for people to say goodbye to them. That he never got to say goodbye to them.
”You know what, you’re right.” he said ”I think I won’t go in… maybe.” he added unsure.

“Ooh, that’s soon… ish. Soon enough to start planning! I swear to you, que Dios—ehm, so help me God, this will be the best birthday of your life.”
She said as she put her hands on his shoulder and staring at him, Gio chuckled and smiled at her response ”Noted” he said with a smile on his face and rested against the wall again ”Thanks, really” he said with a smile looking down, it did mean a lot to him and made him feel better even in a day like this.

“I’m not just his sister to you, I’m also just me. You’re very sweet.”
”Yes exactly. I’m not sweet though” he raised his brow
“Obviously you’re more than just my brother-in-law—sh-t, brother’s boyfriend is what I meant duh—too.”
He let out a small sheepish chuckle at her comment, shaking his head ”It’s okay” he said and lightly nudged her arm with a small smile ”Maybe you see me pretty much all the time but we haven’t secretly eloped I promise” he said with a chuckle. yet-

With the way Dorian acted around her now, it seemed almost impossible to imagine that they used to be best friends. That once upon a time, Dorian and Jessica were inseparable even on the stupidest things. The times when she used to go to him at 2 AM, throwing rocks at his window because she wanted to go eat at the 24-hour diner. And he’d go – despite anything he had to do the next day. That type of friendship that anyone would have told her would have likely lasted a lifetime. Long story short, it didn’t. Though could she really blame him? Four years was a long time for any sane person to go away. Now four years without any way of contact and any explanation – well, that was a different beast in itself. But Jessica had her reasons… not that anyone would ever learn of those reasons. Hell, even Daniel Parker didn’t know why she left, and she wanted to keep it that way. Some things were just better… kept to one’s self. After all, the best secrets were the ones no one knew – something she learned well by having Danny as family.

But no one could say Jessica didn’t try… if you could call her endless talking trying. Maybe it was more of a diffusion of the awkward situation in hopes of survival. Surviving until he dropped her off and then the two of them would go back to never talking again – which is how it seemed Dorian wanted it and Jessica would oblige… even if it wasn’t necessarily what she hoped. Somethings, after all, were just better left unsaid – an ironic statement by the girl who couldn’t stop talking.

She was slightly happy that he finally responded – asking “Four girls or times?” though it caused her to raise an eyebrow with a slight chuckle. She had been originally joking but by the seriousness in his voice, she wasn’t sure anymore. There was a time she’d counter back – call him out on possibly joking. But that wasn’t today. She didn’t know Dorian anymore and his words could very well be true. “Surprise me,” Jess stated in response, watching to see if he would give more clarity about the situation – even if she didn’t really want to know about his adventurous sex life – though she couldn’t necessarily say she hadn’t had sex in the back of a car. It was leeway into him talking to her, so that was something.

Though – shockingly – Dorian had given her more than a four-word answer when the topic moved to Emily. Emily Dalton truly was an adorable girl with a massive crush. Jess only smiled at the memory of the talk Emily had with her, pulling her aside when the Jessica was walking around with the hall pass avoiding teachers as she had no reason to be out with a hall pass. The exact words, if Jessica could remember, had been “You need to leave Dorian alone. He’s my future husband not yours. I love him more than you love him so leave.” Jessica’s response, had been, “Of course future Mrs. DeLoughrey,” Before she saluted the girl and continued walking down the hall – being further pestered as the girl followed her explaining how she was serious. It seemed like such a long time ago now.

Though she was brought out of her memory when she heard Dorian’s ‘more than four-word answer’ being about how Emily had made her leave for years. Sure, Jessica had joked about it in connection to her disappearance… perhaps it was a wrong chose to do so at this time. Ironically Emily wasn’t wrong… but that was a topic for another time – not something to bring up in a confined space with Dorian DeLoughrey. She was about to speak – not on the topic of her disappearance… she couldn’t. She couldn’t lie to him, and she couldn’t tell him the truth so the words that would have left her mouth would have just been avoiding that statement and moving on back to Emily. But he didn’t even give her a chance… which she almost appreciated? Her mind drifted back to the night she left momentarily before disappearing almost as quickly as she remembered sitting in the helicopter, checking her watch for the 15th time before stating “it’s time, go” to the pilot.

She rolled her eyes when Dorian told her she wasn’t walking. “You don’t even have to stop driving, just slow down and I’ll tuck and roll,” Jess joked, nudging him slightly – which was the first time she physically touched him since she… well accidentally touched everything a few hours earlier. “Honestly I’m not kidding though. It’s not a bad walk and it’s not like the first time I’ve done it. Plus, your parents made you do this. You had someplace to be anyways,” Jess added, smiling as “I saw mommy kissing Santa clause” started playing on the radio. “Okay – thoughts. Is the dad Santa or was the mom having an affair?”

Though, a look of surprise met her features as Dorian stopped ignoring everything she had said earlier – answering all her questions. Honestly, she wasn’t even sure he was listening so despite the abrasiveness in his response, she did find it interesting he wasn’t just ignoring her. Though it was his words of ”I just don’t get you,” that brought a frown to her lips. “Join the club,” she mumbled under her breath, probably lower than he could hear, thinking about the dozens of other people who hated her guts. Hell, sometimes she hated herself too. “I get it, Dorian, you don’t want to hear about me or my life but if you haven’t noticed we’re stuck in this car for the next 15 minutes and we both know that shutting up isn’t in my vocabulary. It wasn’t when we were friends, and it isn’t now. So, hit me with another topic I am allowed to talk about since Andy, tattoos, your brother, guys I’ve dated, girls you’ve dated aren’t allowed. Soccer? Or am I banned from hearing anything about your life? How about the weather? That seems like a neutral topic. Thoughts? I think it’s been pretty cold for a March.” Almost exasperated, the words left her mouth before she finally stopped herself at the end – realizing her frustration was showing. “Never mind, just… god, just drop me off on the side or something. It’s not like you care anyways.”

“You don’t even have to stop driving, just slow down and I’ll tuck and roll,”
A weak smile appeared on his lip, a chuckle he was trying to contain. Even if he was mad at her, she somehow managed to make him forget about it for a second and not get annoyed at everything she was saying. “No, that’s not happening,” he turned his head to the side to look through his window so she wouldn’t see that smile he had on. He was still mad and he didn’t want her to think that suddenly everything was alright. It wasn’t.
What she said next made him stay silent for a bit again, a smile turning into a frown. “No, I don’t have to be anywhere so it’s fine,” he quietly admitted, tapping the steering wheel with his fingers. Why was he admitting that? Even he didn’t know. He was just hurt and lying wouldn’t get him anywhere. Plus he didn’t even care what she would think or say, they’ll be only giving each other disgruntled looks in the hallway from now on anyway. “I really hope the dad is Santa but I think that woman is having an affair,” the last normal response she would be getting from him today.

Frustration was written all over his face again after his little speech, after she started talking again. But what was he supposed to expect? For her to just ignore his rudeness? A sarcastic chuckle escaped his lips but he quickly bit down on his lip and shook his head. “Yeah, I bet it’s pretty cold in London too, huh?” He interrupted her at one point, laughing lightly to himself. He didn’t give her a chance to reply to what he said but he couldn’t let her ignore that topic just like that. He couldn’t.
“Oh for f*ck’s sake, I care and I’m not dropping you off on the side.” He slightly raised his voice, his frustration showing more than before as he looked at her, not even realizing he was going way over the speed limit at that time. Which he wouldn’t even pay attention to later if he didn’t hear the sirens of a police car and saw the lights following his car. “Just… great.” He mumbled, glancing at her one last time as if it was her fault that this was happening. And he did blame her for it, if she wasn’t in the car this would’ve never happened. He would just be driving around town for a bit, minding his own business but here he was, with the last person he wanted to be stuck in the car with. Quietly cursing, he stopped the car on the side of the road, looking at the police officer getting out of the car in the rearview mirror, before rolling down his own window. “Perfect, just don’t say anything,” he quietly said to Jessica, trying to calm down just a bit and act normal in front of the police officer. The last thing he needed was to get in some serious trouble.

“Good evening, Officer Whittle. Do you have a license and registration, sir?” A tall, quiet scary looking man appeared next to him, making Dorian turn to the side to find everything he needed at that moment, mumbling “I do.” Dorian knew he shouldn’t be disrespectful at this moment but with everything happening that was just impossible. “Do you know how fast you were going?” He heard the officer say as he opened his wallet to grab his license, but with his mood, it was hard to take the man seriously. “Of course I do,” Dorian sarcastically answered, flashing him a bright smile before handing him his documents. He didn’t really know but he knew it was bad.

Malachi looked at Valerie, a look clearly telling her to shut up. “I have everything under control Val, but you should go.” They could talk more outside, but she did need to walk away from Lily-Ann. When she asked him not to mention anything about it to his parents, he shook his head slightly with a chuckle. “Well Lily-Ann, my parents aren’t who you should worry about.” Currently, it may be necessary for Lily-Ann to remain on his parents’ good side, but soon enough he would be the one with the decision power. “You don’t have your puppet anymore to boost your reputation after that show out there, and I frankly don’t know if I can believe your apology if you can’t even get my cousin’s name correct.” Malachi looked back at his cousin who had yet to leave. “Can you accept her apology Val?”

“I have everything under control Val, but you should go.”
She crossed her arms a raised a brow, it seemed like Lily Ann was in a way intimidated by Kai or his parents. Valerie assumed it was something related to his business stuff, which she didn’t understand too much about specifically, but she also didn’t actually care.
“…I frankly don’t know if I can believe your apology if you can’t even get my cousin’s name correct. Can you accept her apology Val?”
Valerie snorted at his question and looked over at Lily Ann with disgust ”Over my dead body” she muttered and turned away, not adding anything else. which was ironic in a way considering it was a funeral. But one thing she knew, she could never forgive Lily Ann, even if she pronounced her name correctly she would still be far far away from redemption in any way.
As she turned away, she turned back one last time ”And it’s Valerie for fcuks sake. V A L E R I E she stated correcting her, pronouncing it slowly, and rolled her eyes before she turned and walked off in a bold and angry manner, anyone who was smart enough knew not to get anywhere close to her when she’s like that. Unless you’re someone she loves, back off. For your own good.
As she walked off she went outside and rested against a wall, looking up at the sky as she breathed. She was a stress mesh ball who’s been squeezed a little too hard, and was already halfway through exploading. So many emotions all at once, it was just too much.

Daniel watched as Jezebel interreacted with his dogs. They did seem to miss her, most of them climbing her and licking her once they saw the girl they hadn’t seen in months. Dogs were always perspective and personable animals. Perhaps, deep inside, Daniel missed her too. Though he’d never admit that. No – he was much better at doing the opposite; ruining everything that mattered to him. Which was his exact plan as he brought her into the dining room.

He watched her carefully, winking at her when she glared at him. His foot had begun to anxiously tap the floor as he watched her interactions with his parents, who, though confused at her arrival exchanged the normal pleasantries, nonetheless. He could see the pain in her eyes at his actions – but it was only fair, after all, it was her own fault that Danny was brought to this point in his life… right? Though shifting his head to the side slightly as she said her next words about knowing what her life was like at home. There was something off in her voice, but he couldn’t really place it. Perhaps it was the whole situation in general – he wouldn’t be surprised. After all, Jezebel expected a simple dinner with just him and her – like old times. Little did she know things would never be like ‘old times,’ not after what he told her. After what she did to him for years. Lied.

“Right… how could I forget,” Daniel laughed, “Actually you should tell my parents. They’re great at advice. Actually, mum, dad, I think you may know Jezebel’s mother from high school. She apparently went with you two,” Daniel added, taking a bite of his food as his parents looked at the girl uttering something along the lines of “Of course, you can ask us anything.” Ironically over the years, though Justin and Natalie Parker had met Jezebel in passing, their conversations hadn’t been longer than a few minutes as his parents always had something to do. Usually, it was just Jezebel, Jessica, and Daniel in this empty house with the maids, butlers, caterers, and 50 other staff that worked in their home. “Oh… you don’t want to tell them?” Daniel asked after a few moments of silence from the girl.

“Mum, Dad her mother is Dana Sloane,” Daniel added with a smile, “Oh… and in case you’re wondering dad, she’s seven months older than I am… meaning…. Hmm… you were conceived at prom night huh Jezebel… any idea who her father is mum and dad? I mean you went to school with Dana. Who was her date to the prom again?”

It was at these words that Daniel found his father’s face turning slightly white, realization meeting his features though his mother seemed to be in the dark this time around. “For f*cks sake, Jezebel, just say it. I don’t want to have to say everything.”

For a few moments, things almost felt normal in the car between them. The back-and-forth conversation about idiotic topics that truly didn’t matter - mommy kissing Santa, for example – it was what their relationship was like before she left. And somewhere deep down, she missed it. It was easier to forget about something… or, rather, someone… when she didn’t have to see them. There was no way they’d run into each other when she had left – and she knew that. Perhaps that’s why it was so easy once she had left. Deleted everyone of socials, gotten a new phone number, and became a new person. This… this right here – sitting in a car with her old friend – this was the hard part. Jessica couldn’t help all the memories that roamed her mind sitting next to the man.

She almost wished she could stop time – and stay in that feeling forever. The one that said they were okay. The problem was that they weren’t, and they likely would never be again. Further shown when Dorian snide remarks became evident once again. She didn’t know who he thought he was sitting next to, but Jessica Pierce didn’t take bull sh!t. Especially not Dorian’s bullsh-t.

”Yeah, I bet it’s pretty cold in London too, huh?”

With that, she turned towards him giving him a forced sweet smile, wanting to say something along the lines of “Absolutely freezing. But I guess compared to how you feel about me being a cold-hearted b!tch, it’s pretty warm. You should visit. Your family loves it,” though she couldn’t even get it out before he changed the topic. Ar$e.

Though what made her roll her eyes once again was his next statement; ”Oh for f^ck’s sake, I care and I’m not dropping you off on the side” A slight laugh of disbelief left her lips as she closed her eyes slightly. “You have a funny way of showing it Dorian. God I can’t wait until this car ride is over,” She mumbled – though she truly had jinxed herself with those words. Before she knew it, Jessica heard the sirens of a police car meet her ears. Jessica didn’t even move to open her eyes as she knew what had happened – soon followed by incoherent mumbling of Dorian as she felt the car pull to the side before Dorian cursed and told her not to say anything. “Guess you should have pulled over and let me walk earlier huh?” Jess stated, her eyes moving towards her own window – not wanting to look at Dorian as he dealt with the police.

A scoff left her mouth as his tone shifted so quickly with the officer than when he was talking to her… well it didn’t last long as he chose to be snarky with the officer as well. “I’m sorry about him,” Jess stated, finally turning towards where the cop was – though from where she was seated, she couldn’t really see the man too well. “He’s an arse to me too – don’t take it personally,” Jess told the officer, smiling sweetly as Dorian gave her a look that told her to shut up. “You know what officer, my friend here told me to stay quiet before you came over here but I have to ask. What the absolute hell Is wrong with the American police system? Let’s not lie to ourselves and pretend your car being in the blind spot right there wasn’t a speed trap. Not to mention everything broken with the institution of American police. Your whole system here is regarded as a joke in London. Let me guess, if I was driving, I would have already been arrested because of the color of my skin?” Jess questioned, not even caring about Dorian’s p^ssed off expression. “You, sir, are an arse just as much as this guy sitting right over here, and I hope you know that,”.

”Ma’am, please get out of the car.”

“Ahh and here we go – how could I expect any different from an American cop? Taking me in for simply calling you out for your bullsh!t,” Jess laughed – unbuckling her seatbelt as she stepped outside of the car as the cop came over to her side. Though it was dark, it only took Jessica a moment to realize what this was really about. He hadn’t asked her to get out of the car because of anything she had said… well perhaps… but the moment she saw his face she realized who he was. “F^ck,” the word left her lips as she scratched her head.

”Are you drunk ma’am? Can we see your license?”

A sigh left her lips when she shook her head in annoyance. “Let’s cut the bull sh!t Mr Whittle, you know I’m 18 which is the legal age to drink in the UK – which is not even to mention that I drank in the company of family who are over the age of 40 and I sipped champagne meaning I’m not drunk. The only reason you’re doing this is because of Kyle. How is he by the way?” Jessica asked cutting the act almost immediately as the man watched her. Kyle Whittle… oh was that was an interesting story. She had gone on ONE date with the man when he brought her to meet his parents on date number two. Not to mention the fact that he had slapped her ass at that very dinner while his father and him sat there derogating woman and the back lives matter movement – saying how Jessica didn’t count since she was half white. So, what did she do? She took the bottle of champagne and dropped it over Kyle’s head in front of his parents before telling the whole family they were disgusting and walking home. That, ironically, hadn’t stopped Kyle from attempting to DM her the next day to “apologize” and ask to give him a second chance. Disgusting. “Didn’t you let me drink scotch when you had invited me over with him? Ahh the irony.” Jess muttered.

”Well in America, you have to be 21 or over to drink. Please put your hands against the car,”

A sigh left her lips as she did what he said. “This is bullsh!t and your son is an a$$hole, just like yourself,” Jess stated as the man put cuffs around her wrists – a little too tightly – but Jessica was never the one to give anyone the satisfaction of seeing her suffer - even if the cuffs were clearly cutting off her blood circulation.

Fear washed over her as the child talked back at her. In any other situation, Lily-Ann wouldn’t have been… this scared. But this was not just any situation and that was not just any child. As he told the woman that the person, she should be worried about is not his parents, rather himself she nodded. “I am… so sorry Mr. Azure. From the bottom of my heart please accept my sincerest apology.” Though as he turned this over to his cousin to forgive her or not, she knew her reputation was screwed.

”Over my dead body”

“Do it for Candice,” Lily-Ann muttered, “You know she wouldn’t want this if she was alive. She did everything to please me – she wouldn’t like you taking that away in one fell swoop… Valerie,” she continued, looking at the girl before she walked away. “Malachi…I mean Mr. Azure. We both know I could have gotten her arrested for what she did. Please… keep that in mind with any decisions you make,” Lily-Ann whispered, trying to maintain her composure.

Jezebel had hardly interacted with Daniel’s parents over the years, only in passing. Never conversations of much depth, especially not about her. Most of what they knew about Jezebel consisted of whatever they had heard from Daniel or even Jessica. Jezebel gave Daniel a pleading look as he spoke. “What are you doing…?” She didn’t have to ask why he was doing it. She knew it was to hurt her. His parents were just caught in the crossfire of it. They would have had to find out anyway, but this ambush of Daniel’s wasn’t how it should have happened. She just looked down as Daniel spoke, mentioning how his parents knew her mother, and giving just enough information to where they could have been able to do the math. She looked back at Daniel for a moment, avoiding eye contact with his parents, before looking back down. He was getting everything he had wanted. He was a successfully hurting her. “My… My mom didn’t tell anyone who my father is… not even my grandparents… she just put it on my birth certificate…” A slight shakiness could be heard in her voice to match the tears that were slowly building up in her eyes. She had no idea how to say it, and if she didn’t, Daniel was going to. It just wasn’t as simple as Hi, I’m your daughter you didn’t know you had. Jezebel had known for years, and could have revealed that Justin Parker was her father at any time, but she didn’t. “My mom begged me not to say anything after I found out…”

The way everything happened and ended wasn’t what Dorian was hoping for, or expected. He was supposed to talk with the officer, deal with the mistake he’s made and drop Jessica off in front of Daniel’s house. Even with his snarky comment things were supposed to be simple like that but were they? Of course not. Jessica just had to go and ruin everything. Just hearing her shuffling in her seat made him look back at her before she spoke up. Although she simply insulted Dorian, which he didn’t care about at that moment and didn’t say anything that bad, he gave her a look that told her to shut up since his words obviously didn’t work. But neither did that and he soon found himself leaning back in his seat with closed eyes just listening to Jessica getting herself in trouble.

If the situation wasn’t so serious and there wouldn’t be any consequences, he’d say something, perhaps he would support what she was saying but that was not the case. As she just kept talking his expression visibly changed. It would be wrong to say Jessica wasn’t right, she was, but that was not a conversation she should be having now. With the cop. His hands were gripping the steering wheel tightly once again as he waited, for what if felt like an eternity, for her to just shut up. If he had just one more minute he would let his anger get the best of him and say even worse things but the guy told Jessica to get out of the car making Dorian relax his arms and look between them in both shock and surprise. Well, surprise wasn’t the right word, he wasn’t surprised that it happened because let’s be real, she deserved it. He was just surprised by how terribly this was going.

Unbuckling his seatbelt almost instantly, he also got out of the car and stayed on his side of it, holding onto the door as he watched the scene in front of him. It was almost hot seeing her arguing with the officer if he didn’t know what getting out of the car could lead to. If he didn’t know whose father he was. Kyle. A name that made him roll his eyes every time. That guy was and still is on top of Dorian’s hate list. After Daniel, but let’s forget about him for a moment. There were many reasons why he hated Kyle. Maybe because Jessica did kind of date him, maybe because he was Dorian’s rival but that guy was just… hateable. And maybe the thought of him made him more frustrated as he basically yelled at her and slammed his door shut. “Do you know when to shut up?”

It was too late for him to say that and it’s not like it would’ve helped in any way because she already had her hands against the car. “Hey, hey,” he rushed to the other side of the car as the man put cuffs around her wrists. This was exactly what he didn’t want to happen. Hell, he didn’t want that to happen to him but… “You’re hurting her, stop, there’s no need for that,” Dorian said harshly, angry gaze on the man next to him as he not so gently pushed him, trying to get in between the two. What was he hoping he would do that way, even he doesn’t know because that’s not the way to act with the police officer. And he learned that quickly as the man quickly twisted his arm and turned him he would put the cuffs on him too. “Great”, he mumbled as the officer kept talking and he only heard holding cell and attacking.

“Attacking? I didn’t attack anyone.” Dorian stated, his voice only raising as he tried to turn to look at the man but couldn’t do it. It was already too late to act nice and pretend like everything was fine, they were both in cuffs and there was no going back. “This is such a bullsh*t. I get why her but why me?” Dorian continued arguing, glancing at Jessica with both disappointed and angry look. And he really did blame her for this. If she wasn’t in the car this would’ve never happened. If she never came back this would’ve never happened. If she never left. There was just so much he heald against her and this didn’t help with that.

But before he knew it they were both in the police car and then in a holding cell. And the whole time he was quiet, once again. If we ignore the random “you’re so stupid” comments directed at Jessica.
His parents crossed his mind, he couldn’t stop thinking about what they would say once they find out what happened. They were in for a big surprise and Dorian didn’t know how to explain it to them. He could say it was Jessica’s fault, it was, but would they believe him? No, they wouldn’t. Why would they believe him over her? Why would they believe him over anyone really? But Jessica would tell them what really happened, he was sure of that, so why should he blame her? Why should he be the bad guy? Just because he was still p^ssed at her? In reality, he didn’t want to blame her, he didn’t want his parents to be disappointed in her, he would gladly take the “blame”. But yes, he was still p^ssed.

In that little room, while they were waiting, he was just sitting on the bench intensely staring at her. Nothing else. He was just staring at her without moving, not saying anything when he had so many thoughts going through his mind. But this time, unlike in his car, he wasn’t listening to anything she was saying, he could only see her mouth opening and closing. Once again she didn’t know how to shut up.
“Can you please,” Dorian suddenly stood up, walking towards the bars and put his arms through the gaps. “Please take her to another cell or whatever this is?”

It was almost intriguing – watching the chaos unfold within the Parker household. Watching the destructive nature that a few words could have was simply fascinating. With the simple statement that had left Dan’s mouth, the room had stilled, almost as if time had stopped for a moment. Justin Parker becoming deathly silent, Natalie Parker’s mind slowly piecing together what Daniel had just said, and Jezebel slowly falling apart. Daniel looked towards his maid, ushering her over as he whispered a few simple words in her ear – watching as she ran off to the kitchen to do as he said.

Once the woman had left, Daniel turned his attention back over to Jezebel who was struggling to get the words out – though it was so entertaining watching her try. Perhaps there was a part of him that felt bad for her – but it was almost as if the past few months had been leading up to this very moment. Daniel watched as she gave him a look, him equally challenging the one she gave him before she looked to the floor and begin talking some nonsense about how her mother didn’t tell anyone, blah, blah, blah.

A smile met Dan’s lips as the maid he had sent away soon returned with a bowl of popcorn, Daniel thanking her as he watched the three people sitting around the room – plopping one in his mouth ad Jez continued to talk. “God this is taking too long. Mum, dad. Meet Jezebel Sloane. My half-sister. Surprised?” Daniel questioned the two parents who weren’t at all happy with the abrasiveness of the reveal… not to mention Daniel eating popcorn in the situation was probably not helping either. “Oh, I was surprised too. Trust me, I almost didn’t believe it for months. But two DNA tests later show that she is indeed father’s daughter – not to mention she lied to me about it since the moment she met me… actually, it seems the only reason you became friends with me was because we were related.” Dan sighed. “Sorry I should share… does anyone want popcorn?” Daniel asked, ushering the bowl towards his parents and Jezebel who seemed to be crying at the table. “No? More for me then.” Dan stated – watching as his mother looked at Justin for a second before slapping him, which only raised his eyebrow. This truly was primetime entertainment. With that, Natalie-Cole stood up from the table and walked out of the dining room doors.

Justin Parker, however, stayed for another few minutes. Unmoving after the sting that was left on his face – staring at his daughter almost as if he was going to say something. Though he didn’t. He stayed silent, looking at the girl. Face brimming with pain before he stood up, leaving through the same doors that Natalie had gone through moments earlier – likely to go talk to her.

And then there were two. The two that Jezebel Sloane had likely expected it to be. Daniel watched as when the door of the living room was left open, Scout came rushing in – placing his head on Jezebel’s lap which only caused Daniel to roll his eyes again as the man ate a few more pieces of popcorn. Yes. Daniel Parker had truly hit rock bottom and no longer cared who he hurt. Even if he was hurting himself in the process.

If anyone said that the 10-minute ride with Dorian back to Dan’s place was long, well, the ride in the back of a cop-car was longer. The tension and dirty looks directed at her from Dorian were increased ten-fold. But, in retrospect, how the hell was she supposed to know that he was going to push a police officer off of her? Jessica Pierce knew exactly what she was getting into as she argued with the officer, but she had never expected Dorian to get involved. After all, this wasn’t the first time Jessica had been taken in. Nope. Though, ironically, she only ever got arrested when she was in America. Twice during protests in DC, once when arguing with a cop who was arresting a man for walking down the street doing NOTHING, and, of course, the time she was taken in when she snuck backstage of a concert with Andy. So, Jessica Pierce wasn’t new to this whole routine. Dorian however – Jessica was almost sure this was his first time.

“So… Jail virgin huh?” Jessica asked the man with a slight smile in an attempt at a joke, but it was soon clear that Dorian wasn’t in the mood to talk so instead, Jessica focused her attention to Officer Whittle. He arrested her, he may as well deal with her being her non-stop talking self. “So. Whittle. Do you mind telling Kyle to stop DMing me? I recently got access to my official Instagram and noticed over 200 unread messages from him – most of which were either apologizing, then calling me a wh0re, and then apologizing for calling me a wh0re and begging I pick up my phone. I honestly thought after six months of ignoring the arse, he’d get the message? But I don’t think he has sooooo since I have you here – mind just relaying that for me?” Jess questioned, smiling as it seemed to have easily riled up the cop who started arguing with her about how his son was great and she was missing out. “Right… I’ve seen him play football. I don’t think there’s anything he’s great at,” Jess stated.

Though, soon enough, the officer she had fully p^ssed off had put them in a small holding cell – usually where they put people until someone could come post bail – especially since nothing that Dorian or Jessica did had true proof, hence nothing to hold them for more than 24 hours. The minute Jessica’s hands were free, she rubbed her wrists that had already begin to bruise and pulled her middle finger up as Officer Whittle walked away to likely do paperwork.

With that, Jess leaned against the wall, watching Dorian as he just stared at her. No, rather he bore literal holes into her head. And doing as Jess usually did in these situations – she attempted to diffuse the tension. “So… I guess you could kind of say I took your arrest virginity huh? Was I gentle?” Jess joked, putting her hands across her chest as she looked towards him. “I will say this time was far better than the first time I got arrested. Though, you really do make friends for life in these cells. I do think the two men who got arrested with me still follow my finsta. Great guys,” Jess laughed – although, it was soon met with a sigh as he walked over to the bars and asked the cop who was watching the holding cell to take HER to another cell. “Excuse me? Who’s going to protect you if someone else gets put in here and you’re being your usual cheery self?” Jess added with a roll of her eyes as the cop told Dorian that all the other cells were full.

“Hey is Roy working tonight?” Jess asked, turning towards the cop who gave her a strange look before nodding. “Damn I love Roy. Tell him Jessica is in cell 3B and wants to say hi.” Jess told the man with a smile – which led to a conversation with the man about “Oh you’re that Jessica?” and so on. Though after a few moments, the man left to go grab their mutual friend as Jess turned back towards Dorian.

“So… are you really just going to ignore me? We could honestly be here for an entire day at least say something. You ever meet Kyle? I think he goes to Vermilion High and is something for the football team, but I honestly can’t remember.”

Jezebel Mallory Sloane

Jezebel had barely been able to bring herself to speak a word about the situation to begin with, but then Daniel decided to outright say it himself, that she was his half sister. Jezebel finally looked back up only when Daniel had offered popcorn to them all, and his mother even slapped Daniel’s father, her father, and left the room. What Daniel was doing, hurt everyone there, not just Jezebel. She barely looked in the direction of Justin Parker, knowing that her being there and everyone knowing, even down to her existence, only made everything worse. Soon enough, it was just her and Daniel, aside from Scout having come in, trying to comfort her. She looked down at Scout for a moment, rubbing his head, then looking directly at Daniel, despite the tears that had started running down her face. She was already at her limit of what she could handle, and this was too much. “I know you hate me for what I did, but I never asked you to be my brother, I just wanted my friend back. From the moment we became friends, you were more of family to me than I ever had at home. You have everything I ever wanted. You have two parents who want the best for you, and all I’ve ever been was the biggest mistake my mom made. The mistake that she tells me she wishes she never made. She hates me, especially for you and everyone else finding out who my father is.” Whatever part of Jezebel had hope left that they could be friends again, was gone. There was no hope. There was no way Daniel would ever want to let them become friends again. She stood up and looked at Daniel as she spoke, more thinking out loud than actually talking to him. “How could you…?” She didn’t understand why he would throw his own family into chaos just to hurt her, even if he knew it would. “That was a new low, even for you Daniel.”

“There she goes again,” a sarcastic comment he just had to make as he rested his head against the bars and closed his eyes. He knew being here with her wouldn’t be easy but he hoped she would get that he didn’t want to talk to her, hoped she would stay quiet for the sake of both of them. Was that too hard? Instead, she went on about jail virginity, her jail friends and cop friends, making it tough for him to keep calm. “Will you shut up already?” Dorian quietly said, slowly looking back at her and keeping his gaze on her for a few seconds, taking a step away from the bars before he turned away from her and started walking back towards the bench. A very short walk but he quickly stopped, hearing her last question. "God, there was not a minute when you were quiet.”

It was about time for him to just let everything out and somehow the word football played a huge role in that. "And it’s soccer. You’re in America, use American words. It’s not football it’s soccer. Please?” He suddenly turned towards her but stayed where he was not, refusing to get any closer to her again. That wasn’t something that usually bothered him even if he’d sometimes correct her when they were younger, but for the obvious reasons everything she said was getting to him. “And stop talking about that Kyle dude already, yes I do know who he is but I don’t want to hear another thing about him, or his dad, or Rod, Roy whatever the fck his name is. I don’t want anyone coming here, especially not another officer you are somehow friends with. Let me guess, you were also meeting up with him in London?” That’s when he really let his anger out, at this point not caring about what he was saying. It was just coming from the bottom of his heart and he couldn’t stop it. So now the roles were reversed - he was the on that didn’t know how to shut up.

"Like with my mom? Because I can’t describe how annoying it was to listen to her stories about you and the time you’ve spent together. Or just looking at your pictures because she thought you were so cute and she just had to share it with everyone. Yes, mom, I can see that but I don’t want to.” Chuckling, he crossed his arms and looked to the side, shaking his head slightly. That was what he had to deal with from time to time. And it was hard. It was hard for him to see Jessica could get back to “normal” with his mom while she never tried to talk to him. “And stop looking at me like that, it’s irritating.” He mumbled, furrowing his brows as he shifted his gaze back to her, not even taking a second to stop and breathe in.

“And bragging about how you got arrested before is so stupid. You are proud of that, really? Well, I hate it here, if it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t be here.” Chuckling continued as his gaze remained on her but he found himself taking a few steps closer. “I just- I just really don’t want to be here with you right now AND don’t even say you can see that because I know you can. I am making it very obvious for both of us. I would rather be here with a serial killer because I don’t need you protecting me now when I’m being my usual cheery self. I know pretty well how to do that, let me remind you I was fine without your protection for the last four years.” He continued with a huge but sarcastic grin plastered on his lips. “And after four years you think you can come back just like that and act as nothing happened? Who are you kidding, Jessica? Trust me, I don’t even need Daniel to keep me away from you. And yes you can tell him that, I bet he’d be more than happy to hear it. Damn, I’d rather be in here with him and I can’t stand him.” His anger was only getting worst, his words harsher as he couldn’t stop himself from talking. Everything he said was overwhelming, even for him.

“You know, I would actually like to know what he would do now if he knew where you are and who you’re with. What do you think, huh? Would he think it’s funny or would he try to find a way to ruin my life again because he thinks this is my fault?” That’s when he stopped and finally looked away, walking back towards the bars and leaning against them, placing his hands in his pockets. His voice got quiet and he was almost relaxed. But not fully as some thoughts he tried to push away suddenly ran trough his mind and he continued, “You know what? Why don’t you give him a call or leave him a message saying how we’re having so much fun right now? At least he’d know where you are.”
