“All right, Destiny it is then.” He said. He preffered calling her Ms. Miller but he understood why she wouldn’t like it, being a teacher and being called that by her students and coworkers. That’s why he doesn’t like being called by his actual last name, but then again there’s another reason for that.
As she started her story he listened intently, knowiing from her previous story she had at least a few interesting and fun tales from her life. As soon as he noticed her distress he walked up behind her slowly and placed a hand on her shoulder trying to make her feel less so. He wanted to let her finish and only than comfort her, but she said something else when she finished.
“That’s all right. I don’t mind your stories, probably because you lead an intersting life.” He said before turning her around slowly to face him and said. "But about the story … " He was about to call her Ms. Miller again but he caught himself. “Destiny, it’s not your fault this happened. You had no idea about your powers before. When you realize that you did something bad but not on purpose shouldn’t be something to make you feel guilty, you’ll be one step towards how I feel when working for the army. And we know what we’re doing, but we tell ourselves many things and don’t feel too much guilt. Like I used to tell myself that it’s kill or be killed in this profession and I also told myself that the people on the other side are the bad guys and I’m the good guy … but truth be told the second one isn’t true … And somehow, I didn’t need to tell myself that anymore … I just stopped feeling guilty for them … for all of them. Does … does that make me heartless?”

Emma nodded along to Kakòlin’s statement. “Yeah, pretty much. Please tell me you have a black cat. That’d be awesome.” Emma chuckled when Kakòlin said spicy. “Ah, I see. I…I wish my powers turned off.” She said, pulling at her fingers.

Freya shook her head as the camp came into view from the road, she pulled over and got out, her hands shaking as she held the phone to her ear, “I can’t do this! I’m going to turn around and come home.”

“No, don’t you dare, missy. You promised me you would try, you have been single literally your entire life. It’s time you find someone you can trust with your secret.”

Freya laughed nervously, “But I do trust someone with my secret, I trust you, Mom–I mean, Natasha.” She had been calling her sister that ever since she started raising both her and…her ‘brother’.

The voice on the other end laughed softly, “I know you do, kiddo, but I’m family. It’s different than finding and telling the one you’re supposed to be with, the one who will accept you and love you for who you are, whether you’re you or Arthur.”

Freya shook her head, her hands still shaking, " But what if nobody likes either of me? What if they hate me?"

The voice on the other end sighed, “So, what? Who cares if you’re a guy who can change into a girl, or a girl who can change into a guy. I’ve told you a million times, dear–sis. You are beautiful and deserve love, compassion, empathy, just like the rest of us. And if nobody there likes you for who you are, then it’s their loss, because you have so much to give to give them and the world, and with a heart twice as big as yours, they’d be the lucky ones.”

Freya sniffled and smiled as a single tear trickled down her face, “How do you always know how to cheer me up?”

The voice chuckled, “Because I’ve had the amazing blessing of being both your sister and the one who raised you. Now, go out there and find the one for you.” There was a muffled voice on the other end, “Oh, that was my boss, I gotta go but I love you so much and they will too.”

The conversation ended and Freya took a deep breath, gathering her courage, “It’s ok, I can do this. Mom–Natasha is right, I do have to at least try.” She got back in the car, her hands still shook nervously but visibly less than before as she looked both ways and got back on the road towards the camp. When she arrived she checked in and set her four suitcases, two duffel bags, and a backpack with the rest of the luggage and went to go look around when she bumped into someone and audibly yelped with surprise, Freya’s cheeks grew bright red with embarrassment, “I’m so sorry, I’ll go, I promise.”

Joel was walking across the camp, lost in thought. Unfortunately, due to this, he didn’t see the girl in front of him, crashing into her. Joel fell to the ground, his glasses falling off. “Ah! Crap, I’m sorry!” He yelped, scrambling around for his glasses. He found them, and stood up, putting them on. “Again, I’m sorry about that.” He said, holding a hand out. “My name is Joel. You?”

Destiny shook her head and sighed, “No, William. I’ve always known about my powers, I was born with them. I just meant, that I didn’t mean to put that girl in a coma, I was just so angry, I lost control. So, yes, I do feel guilty, I was young but I still should’ve known and been more careful.” Destiny thought for a moment about how to respond to William’s question and decided to go with what she knew best, “Well, when I’m reading a story, I try not to immediately believe what I’m being told by the author right away. Maybe the bad guy with seemingly no morals or sense of remorse is actually just trapped and over time of being trapped has learned to act a certain way or do certain things. If that character can escape and is open to change, then maybe, just maybe he wasn’t the true villain of the story, his circumstances were and when they changed so did he. So, I find it best not to judge on past mistakes, but that doesn’t mean I can’t judge the present: who you are now, and your choices because of past mistakes.”

After getting up and dusting herself off for the longest time, Freya didn’t shake his hand or speak. When she finally choose to try, she cautiously stuck her hand out and shook Joel’s hand, “No, no, I’m sorry. My-My name is Freya, Freya Matthews.” An awkward silence passed until she decided to start slow with small talk, just like she practiced with her sister. “So, um, nice weather we’re having. It’s a beautiful day.” She said quietly.

The girl stayed silent, and Joel was about to lower his hand when she finally shook his hand, smiling. “Hey, it’s ok. It was an accident. Don’t worry about it.” He said. “Nice to meet you, Freya. That’s a pretty name.” He chuckled about the weather comment, nodding. “Yeah, it is nice.”

William looked down. This was his chance … This was his chance to tell her about the circumstances in his life that made him this way … And yet … he didn’t take it. He felt ashamed of being that scared of sharing something with him when he had a feeling that whatever he told her, would never be told to anybody else even if he doesn’t tell her in confidence, but still his brain and his gut feeling conflicted over this and ultimately, he decided what to do, even though he still felt it wasn’t the right thing to do.
“Well in that case … You will have to judge me from what you know about me so far … The circumstances you mentioned … Do you believe it matters so much in shaping a person’s character?” He wondered, hopefully, maybe just maybe he could feel guilt again, and maybe love that was so absent in his life he barely remebers the years when he last felt it let alone the memories behind it.
“Do you think if somebody plagues somebody’s choices and mind, that future mistakes of that person are not all his fault and understandable?” He asked. He needed something to blame his father for, he belives his father deserved nothing less.

Freya smiled faintly, “Thanks, my-” Freya was about to say that her sister gave her her name, but caught herself just in time. Freya, after the Norse goddess of love and beauty, because Natasha told her that she was beautiful and deserved love, despite what their parents said or the fact that she could change genders. “My mom, gave me that name.” Another awkward silence passed until Freya thought of another small talk question, “So, what do you do?”

Destiny thought for a moment, “Yes and no, I believe circumstances are part of it, but I also believe that the people they choose to be around and let them influence them are a big part of it. There are literally thousands of stories about people who come from a bad or villainous heritage that turn out to be the greatest heroes of their land because they had good people or one good person around them who genuinely loved them and wanted what was best for them. The opposite is also true there are stories of people who’ve come from noble or heroic backgrounds but choose to let the single bad person influence them and encourage them to make bad choices.” Destiny took off her glasses and shrugged, “I guess it depends on one thing: Did that someone allow that person to be around them and influence them? If so, then no, it’s that person’s own fault because they could’ve said no, they could’ve found other people to be around but instead choose not to. If not, if that person tried everything they possibly could to get away from that person and it was completely unavoidable, like perhaps they were trapped or threatened, and those circumstances remained, then I believe that to be the result of the other person’s choices. That’s why I always try to seat my students next to good influences and partner them up because that way, they at least have someone who’ll look out for them.” She cleaned her glasses and put them back on.

Berit felt trapped under Cesare’s angry eyes as he repeats what other have said hundreds of times before. She thought that going to a place with others like her would allow her to be more accepted…but just because that was her assumption, doesn’t mean that it was truth.

Why did you have to keep this part a secret when you knew that people touch all the time?

She didn’t know how to say it, that people didn’t touch her. That nobody ever desired her enough to despite her abilities. Yet, her expression and all breath was knocked out of her lungs when he compared her abilities and warning to a car crash. Berit knew she was dangerous, but she never expected Cesare to immediately touch her.

“I-.” She swallowed her dry throat. “I’m sorry, but you’re the one who grabbed my face. If anything, I should be irritated at you for just randomly grabbing me.” Berit replied, frustrated. “Why are you being so mean?”

“Well, it’s a pretty name. I’m not trying to flirt, I swear. Your mom has good taste.” Frey asked what he did, and he smiled. “I’m a computer developer. Kinda works with my power. It’s reality hacking. Like in a video game. It’s pretty cool. Do you want to see it?” He asked, trying to figure out what he’d do.

William kept listening to her wondering if he made the wrong or right decision in not telling her his story. But as he kept listening he found the answer to the question he kept asking. “Is it my fault I didn’t run sooner? Is it my wrong choice to go down this path instead of overcoming it when I could and bein a better man despite life bringing me down? Would I be different if instead of joining the army underage I would’ve found my own way to a better life?” Some of those were answered within minutes of him knowing this woman, something that he never experienced before so he knew if he was ever going to tell anybody about his backstory … It would be her. Either right now unless he gets too afraid. or sometime during this cabing thing, but he made a promise to himself he would have to tell her as soon as he was brave enough.
“Wow, Miss Miller, you might be the most considerate person and teacher I’ve ever met. Most people don’t usually care so much about something like that as much as you do. With such a view of the world I understand why you would feel guilty for doing things that aren’t so bad at all.” He came towards her and cupped her face. “Your purity and kindness … it’s as adorable as a puppy. I think I have one for you if you want it.” He knew he wasn’t ready to tell her his story, she was just going to have to settle for him sharing his suprisingly gentle and sweet secret interest. Out of the inside of his big jacket he pulls out a blanket and something moving seems to be wrapped up in it. A newborn labrador puppy looks sleepily out of the blanket as William tries to unfold it without waking up the lab. “Don’t tell anybody I gave him to you, but I found him close to here abandoned, unsure what happened to his mother. Now he needs somebody to take care of him and I belive somebody as compassionate, sweet, kind and just outright adorable as him would be the perfect step-mother for him because he’s also sweet, kind and just outright adorable. So what do you say? Do you want him?”

Cesare realized he messed up by getting angry. He’s about to lose a possible friend to a short outburts of anger. But he didn’t care, because if he told her he was wrong to do so, he’d look stupid and rash, and even though he is rash, he would never admit to it or admit he’s wrong when he rashly does something stupid, like just now.
“Well maybe you could tell people not to touch you when you get to meet them, okay?” Exclaimed Cesre still trying to make it sound like he’s right.
“Now, let’s forget all about it, I’m not affected anymore and you aren’t dangeous to me if I know about your superpower, so let’s just hug it out and forget all about it. No harm no foul right?” Cesare noticed she was dressed and covered from head to toe so he figured hugging would be okay so long as their faces don’t touch. Only now he is starting to realize how hard it must be to not be able to be touched by anybody and if they do touch you they get mad at you for letting them. She must be touch deprived and Cesare suddenly felt bad for what he said so before Berit had any chance to say anything he said “Oh an Berit … I don’t want your forgiveness … I’m not the one that needs an apology. I’m sorry.”

Freya smiled softly when Joel unknowingly complimented her sister, her real mom’s name choice for her. “Thanks, she really does and I like yours too.” Freya listened intently while also hoping that he wouldn’t ask her if she had any powers. She knew she’d probably regret this answer but nodded slowly, “Um…sure, why not.”

“Thanks. I appreciate it.” He nodded when Freya gave him the go ahead, vanishing from sight. He reappeared, and teleported behind her. “I can basically use game cheats in real life. It’s pretty cool. I can run really fast too. Just whatever game cheats there are, I can use them.”

Destiny laughed softly, “How many times should I ask you to please, call me Destiny?” When he got close to her and cupped her face, Destiny’s cheeks turned red. William then pulled out a newborn puppy wrapped up in a blanket. “Awww, he’s so adorable!!” She gently took the little guy in her hands, he was still asleep wrapped up in the blanket. Destiny closed her eyes and recalled a memory of sitting by the fire, it wasn’t too hot or cold but just right, so she gave the air the properties of fire to help keep the little guy warm. She smiled softly, “See, you’re capable of so much more than you give yourself credit for. And yes, of course I want him!”

Freya gasped softly, “That’s really cool. I wish I had a power like that.” Freya didn’t exactly mean that because without Arthur’s power she wouldn’t exactly be here, but at the same time all she could do was change genders, she had heard about people who could fly, had heat vision or could freeze things. Don’t get her wrong, she liked being able to just escape and be ‘someone else’ even if that someone else was just her as a guy, but it wasn’t very useful to anyone else except her and Arthur. Freya took another minute to think of a question, “So, um, what made you decide to do this?”

Berit’s first impression of Cesare was that he was kind, and thoughtful and strangely intimidate with strangers, but now she wasn’t so sure. Berit Carter grew up being told that she was foolish, that she was stupid and shouldn’t trust her own mind.

Cesare appeared strange to her with all his sudden outbursts of anger and blaming Berit for his touch, it was peculiar but she decided to ignore it…for now.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been hugged before.” She replied. Even when covered, nobody back home dared to touch her, as though her conditions would seep through the fabric.

“About your name … You don’t think first names are too forward?” He asked. After all he keeps reminding himself he has known her for a few minutes, barely enough time to even know her name let alone to be so personal as to use her first name. “I mean we do barely know each other.” Once he said that he remebered how even though he knows her for such a short time, he could tell from the get go she was such a special and interesting person that he couldn’t think of her as a stranger anymore. He remebered some people he knew for years that feel like strangers to him, and now he finally feels the opposite effect. So he smiled at her, look at her for a while and said “Very, well Destiny. You’ve convinced me.” After this whole ordeal, while he was holding the puppy in front of her she accepted his gift and gave William a compliment. But that compliment, meant so much to him, especially since it was coming from her but also because he could tell it wasn’t one of those white lies, nor was somewhat true but blown up to be grand and untrue. His cheeks turned rosy and he gazed at her, lovingly as she played with the puppy. He knew a person like her wouldn’t say no to him, even after he told her the puppy was abandoned. Truth is he thought the dog was perfect for her, but he also was in a way abandoned like that dog, except not physically like the dog.
“What are you gonna name him?”
