Discussion: Autism and misconceptions

A N T I - V A X X E R S

You know Dolan J Trumpo is against vaccinations? Funny, huh. one of the most powerful people alive is an anti-vaxxer. What a world we live in.

What a world I don’t want to live in anymore :upside_down_face:

Has anyone watched Atypical, a show on Netflix about a kid with autism and his family? I like the show but am wondering if it speaks to anyone with autism or if it’s more alienating?

I second the interest, though I haven’t watched the show yet!

Person 1: Says something stupid.
Person 2: “Bro are you autistic?”

Even better when an actual autistic person is standing right next to them. :expressionless::white_heart:

I was trying to find it last night, but there was this hilarious Trump speech where he talks about this “beautiful baby” who got vaccinated, and I cried laughing. I sent it to @ChaoticDeluge and he cried laughing too! I wonder if I can find it again

Blimey, these anti-vaxxers are so ridiculous!

Most of them are… Well, they don’t have a valid reason. Some may but most don’t.

I can’t believe Trump is an anti-vaxxer, no wonder his kids turned out the way they did.

Honestly, if they think abortion is murder then not vaccinating your kids is murder because they’re most likely to catch a lot of disease. It just pains me to hear that people are so against autism.

I don’t see the problem with it. Maybe it’s a developmental disability, but… There’s no problem. None that I see

Exactly, if they can’t accept the fact that we behave like this then they can jog on (British for go away).

It’s irritating when Asian and Black families (of course we’re going to agree on this) completely dismiss it and act like we’re attention seekers.

Or they ignore it completely and rag on you (harass you) for being “weird”. Smh.

EXACTLY!

OMG! It annoys me when they use autistic as an insult. Like bruhh, not everyone’s born autistic.

It’s so stupid.

“You look autistic”. :expressionless: how does that even work my guy…

Exactly! Like seriously, it’s stupid when people do that and that also counts as ableism. I find it contradicitng that when I was in school, kids take the Mick out of a disabled child but is sympathetic with someone with Down Syndrome.

Wow… For real?

Yeah, I remember when I was in primary school there was a little girl that cried a lot (I don’t know what was the reason and she cried very often) there was these really rude kids in my class took the Mickey out of her with stupid chants like “Oh look it’s the disabled girl!”

Remember that aunt I told you about, she said something similar to that. When I was once deep sleeping, she called me an “invalid child” just because I didn’t wake up to say hello. So rude yet she works as a therapist.

Even my dad is no better! He works with special needs children and he called me “disabled” as an insult.

Tell me about it! You see why I don’t bother talking to someone that is the same ethnicity as me about this because they would act like all disabled people are evil and all that. While I do agree that autism is not a bad thing but coddling someone because they’re autistic is very annoying.

Well you know…certain people that are so against people that are openly autistic. By openly, I meant that they are all aware that I’m autistic.
