Discussion: Autism and misconceptions

Well, why? Just because they are different? That is how discrimination starts… sigh.

Exactly, it still counts as ableism to look down on anyone that is autistic. I remember when I was 19, I was dragged to go swimming with my mum and I was completely numb. One woman had the nerve to ask my mum if I have special needs which I was stunned. I was also upset with my mum for having a go at me that day just because I didn’t want to go swimming and she forced me to go against my will.

Everyone I meet considers me special needs. SIGH.

It’s ridiculous. Okay, I did get a lot of helpers back then but omfg that was straight up rude of that woman to ask me about my disability. If I want to talk to you about my disability then I will, no need to point it out!

No, I dont believe the teachers are, there’s just nothing they can do about it without the resources.

Every autistic person is different. They have different personalities and different interests. Simply because you don’t like one person who happens to be autistic, that doesn’t mean you can assume all autistic people are the same. :white_heart:
