Do you want to have kids? Or really, should you have them?

every human being is different. you can’t guarantee that your values will make them happy. don’t set expectations on how they should live their life when it comes to values. that would be selfish

:joy: dunno if i can use your real name but you and i both know i don’t give two sh*ts about my reputation, if you wanna ban me it’s best if you do it now

It’s not fair at all on the child to be birthed and given a life of the average 72 years (correct me if I’m wrong) at the hands of two people or just one person who only sees the value in passing down their beliefs to you or for the sake of them having your name. It’s a lot of stress you’d be putting on the kid. And to say they won’t have any because you’ll make it to where they believe you, is just brainwashing. You’re not giving them the pleasure of life, you’re trying to make them a life of another version of yourself, not allowing them to see who they might truly be.

exactly. that’s just selfish

72.6 years :)

True that. I wouldn’t want my parents to give me a specific set of definition which feels fit to them. I would like to discover my own self on my own, and every child should have that right.

well – this really depends on what country you live in

Exactly. That’s what should be the blessing and happiness you get from having a kid. You get the chance to help raise, yes, but see a new human being become themselves, find their happiness, see the blessing of living. As a parent your real job is just to support them until they can go off on their own, not try and control the way they live and push beliefs on them because you personally want them to feel the same way you do about life.

I’ll have to say that it is not selfish to not want kids, women are not birthmachines after all, and what if you had aspirations, wanted to focus on love, pets, or even yourself and don’t want to have kids? Even if you grew up in a stable and happy household? It’s your choice

And saying that you’re selfish for not giving your hypothetical children a chance at life just seems a bit illogical. What if you could be the greatest scientist of all time and having a child would block you from achieving that? The problem with hypothetical situations is that they’re hypothetical. It’s not selfish to live. It’s not selfish to want to be successful. Every human has a right to live and you can’t transfer that right to a hypothetical child.
