Forum Updates & Upgrades

Ok!

The domain change worked for sure, quite sad tho that all old images are no longer here…

Yes, I’ve just noticed that. Not quite sure as to why.

All I can tell you is that the problem lay with the latest discourse update. Kate and I had done the update and attempted to do the domain change, however, apparently they was a fault in the discourse update. One that many were having and Discourse still hasn’t seen to yet. So what happened was that a container in our forum’s droplet had to have all it’s contents removed, the error reset or taken care of, and then move everything back in. Perhaps the corrupt file was our images?

Actually, I take that back. Found out they’re not gone, @Jass. It’s an easy fix. All you have to do is go through your posts, click edit on ones with missing images and make an edit. The edit can be ANYTHING, even adding a space between two lines and save it. Then all should be returned to normal.

I’ve just tried this in one of my PMs with a missing image and it worked.

Okay, sorry guys but it’s yet another announcement, @Announcements!

From 2023-02-13T04:30:00Z, the forums may be down for hopefully no more than an hour!

Why?

Some of you may have noticed that forum emails are coming through.
We’ve been looking into it today and it seems that the latest Discourse update had another error, this time with the emails. So it’s not the domain change, that’s just an inconvenient coincidence, it’s just yet another error. SIGH.
That being said, we’re announcing it here so you know what’s happening and hopefully afterwards everything is running smoothly again.

Hey Forumers!

This is just a friendly message to inform you that within the next day, the staff team will be starting to rebuild our new forum sections. So be aware that some sections may be added, moved, or removed.

New Section Layout:

Then we have four special locked sections:

  • Staff:
It has a section for admin, one for staff/leaders, and one for ex-staff
  • Access Granted:
This is the section that anyone can gain access to if they’re active enough.
  • The Foundation:
This is for our special paid section for any age, well, 13+ like the forums.
  • The Dungeon:
This is for our special paid section for those who are 18+.

The other thing to be aware of is that part of this process will mean your threads and posts may be edited. Tags added, links redirected, and images and emojis repaired.
It may take us quite a number of weeks to do the whole forums, so please be patient with us.

Will the section names change?

Yeah, me too. We’ve always had one, it was just brightened up a bit.

Yeah, the names will be as listed in the image. (wink)

Good luck with the Face Reveal thread lol!

The face reveal will be nothing compared to the Blue Royalty RP and chat threads. Least with Face Reveal it’s just one button to rebuild each post, with the largest RP on here, it’s editing each post (mostly likely) 'cause of the font size change. HAHA

Best of luck. You’ll need it.

Hey @Announcements!

After completing the new forum updates recently and discussing the new features, we’ve got a few exciting changes to share with you all. We’re SUPER excited! But first, we wanna run one by you, because this one, we believe, should be a group decision.
We’ll explain what this feature does and give you an example of how it would look, and then if you could, please vote on the poll to tell us if you want us to implement it!

Timezone Display
This feature involves unique user timezones and there’s no opt out button, hence why we want to check to see if the majority like the feature and want it.
The feature is for user cards (and only user cards, nothing shows on profiles). On your user card, there is a display of the local time based on the user’s timezone when their card is opened. Which means, so long as everyone agrees, this could be very cool for knowing when users are available, sleeping, working, etc. Although we are aware that this would mean that your timezone is available for people to see, and this is why we are asking if you’d like it.

An example - our test from earlier:

If you not okay with it then that’s okay too, just vote no. As this doesn’t have an opt-out option, we will NOT be implementing unless over 90% of users voting agree to this feature.

Would you like this feature to be in use on our forums?
  • Yes
  • No

We’ll be giving you 72 hours to vote before closing the poll.

Hey @Announcements!

This is partly a reminder for everyone to make sure they’ve voted on the poll above ^^^ and partly to share excited new features that have just been implemented.

While the one above is still your choice on whether we implement them, these two below are based on individual user choice to use them. Plus, they’re really amazing!

The new features:

  1. User Locale - We now have the ability to set a language preference. Users are able to choose their own language interface in preferences (even just UK & US English). It means that once your preferred language is selected, the page will be refreshed and changed to that language. Find it in your preferences > Interface > third one down > save.
We will even be supporting left-to-right and right-to-left text directions. If you usually read from right-to-left, then there is now the ability to do so on the forums.
  2. User Tips - This is experimental, although, it could be really helpful to help explain some of the forum features to both new users and user who aren’t as active. It will just help new users with tips that describe key features of the forums. If you want to turn it off, go to your preferences > Interface > tick the bottom box > save.

We’ll give at least another 24 hours to vote on the poll above.

Hey @Announcements,

After yesterday’s problems, we were spending a couple of hours looking at at plugins (removing unused ones) and sorting out the forum backups. There is a possibility that it will crash again today, which we maybe hoping for, as it will tell us that we have located the problem and can then look into sorting it.

On a happier note…

We have some new features!!!

  • Navigation Improvements
You may have noticed a layout change in your notification page and the icons, as well as the notification menu.
  • Image grids!
If you want to post a group of images and don’t want them one after the other in a long-as post, then all you need to do is wrap them in [grid] ... [/grid] tags, and the images will be neatly arranged.
  • User tips are now enabled by default

Hey everyone,

We seem to have noticed another change to the forums along with the above features. As Discourse are changing the layout of the navigational hamburger menu found at the top right of your screen, which is the legacy design.
There are two options available for us to change to, however, we were hoping you would all help to select which to change to. This is a forum decision after all and therefore whichever choice the majority select is the one we’ll be changing to.

The choices are:

A Sidebar

The navigational menu (or hamburger menu) is on the left-hand side of the screen, to the left of the logo. With the functionality of this menu, you seem to be able to leave it open while reading whichever thread you’re on as well as being to hide it again.

Example

A Dropdown Header

The navigational menu (or hamburger menu) is in the same place it is now, on the right-hand side of the screen, to the left of your pfp. With this menu, it is almost the same as we have now… only with small differences like the themes will no longer be found there.

Example

Both of these can be customisable, so we will be attempting to make them as similar to our current one in terms of what can be found within the menu.

Which menu would you prefer?
  • Sidebar Menu
  • Dropdown Header Menu
