Haha, I do sometimes blame my husband for me gaining weight while we’ve been together. When single (also as a broke college/grad student), I used to just eat when I was hungry and pretty small portions of healthy things like spinach wraps and brown rice and I didn’t have someone to like rush home and wanna see so I’d go to a workout class most days. Plus, my husband has an amazing metabolism and runs, so he can eat basically whatever he wants and not gain a pound.

So yeah, like Talu, I’d like to get back to my weight a few years ago, but that’s going to be a slow process for sure. I need to be consistent because I tend to get into phases and then discouraged when I don’t see immediate changes.

I also want to note for younger girls out there, that it’s super hard to be satisfied with your own body image as a teenager. I look back at pics of me then and most of them, I’m like wow, why did I think I was a cow, I was really pretty and skinny. Ballet messed me up a bit because I stared at a mirror for like 20 hours a week, finding every imperfection that I could, but that obviously didn’t make me happy. I’m lucky that I didn’t develop an ED, only self-image issues that I’ve been able to work on.

Now, I mostly like what I see in the mirror, it’s more pictures that are the problem! I hate pics of myself and wish I didn’t because I do like looking back. So, I’m going to work on being a healthier vegetarian (because lotsa junk is vegetarian) and doing a bit of daily exercise and sticking to it instead of being super intense for a week or two!

That’s very true. Don’t forget if you’re really big, it’d be harder to lose the weight.

Actually the smaller you are, the less you have to eat in order to keep losing weight. You just have to lose less I guess…

A bigger person burns more calories than a thin person because their body works harder to support the weight, however it may be more difficult to exercise or eat healthy if you’re unhealthy.

I read somewhere that when you lose weight, the fat cells just shrink and are easier to grow again than if you never had them in the first place.

Yeah , it’s pretty much true what she said about the calorie thing.

Because the more you weigh, the more energy it takes your body to function. This means that a heavier person will burn more calories doing the same activities as a lighter person.In turn they are also usually stronger than lighter people because they have to support all that extra weight. So technically speaking unless you’re so overweight that you can’t do any proper exercises .Bigger people should be able to lose a bigger amount of weight faster than lighter people with the same amount of exercise and dieting plan.

Though when it comes to showing results in gaining muscle and such , lighter peoples results would be seen faster. Since your muscles are under your fat and if you body fat percentage was already pretty low to begin with. You would have to exercise less than someone with a high body fat percentage and the same amount of muscle you had in the beginning.

Wow I never knew this. I guess my parents were wrong about this because I remember when I was 17, they put me on a super strict diet and said something like, “It will be hard to lose weight”. I didn’t like how my mum puts this unrealistic expectation on me saying that I will be slim in one week which is complete nonsense because weight loss takes a lot of time, you wouldn’t have a body like Taylor Swift in one day or a week.

But right now I am currently 182lbs trying to lose weight by going to the gym 3-4 days a week, drink loads of water and control my portions even though I am struggling since I have been diagnosed with bulimia and have been relapsing. Sucks that I have been discharged from the eating disorder clinic for the time being since I needed a formal diagnosis for my C-PTSD.

Well I’m glad your on the right track now :grin: ! And maybe your mom just said losing weight was hard due to other reasoning. I mean trying to keep up a strict diet can be very hard on it’s own . You have to get used to it mentally and physically . Also everyone has their own metabolism that causes them to lose weight faster or slower , but progress is progress . And as long you keep doing it in a healthy way . It’s amazing either way!

I personally try to gain more muscle which actually also helps your metabolism quite , a bit ! Even though I’m still not that strong , I just love the feeling of getting stronger than I was before I started . Since I always kind of felt weak and defenseless before.

It was my dad that did this actually yet he glorified my cousin for faking anorexia :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
Honestly, the super strict diet he put me on caused me a lot of weight gain as I wasn’t eating very much. I tend to lose my appetite when I’m p****d off and since I am trying to recover, it doesn’t help when people comment on what I eat with the “Shouldn’t you be eating this?” Man I don’t trust the food police when they lecture anorexia/bulimic survivors on what to eat and what to not eat.

Weights do give you muscles (not manly ones of course) but yeah, weights are fun :smiley:

If you’re not used to weights, they also work as cardio! When you first start doing weight training, it causes your heart rate to go up

I’m always used to walking/jogging on treadmills before doing resistance training.

Physically, I’m more-or-less where I’d like to be weight-wise. I could lose a couple pounds but in all honesty, I’ve been eating like sh*t since I got back from Australia. If I cut the crap out, I think I’d drop those pounds pretty quickly (I don’t weigh myself but I’m pretty sure I naturally dropped a little weight when I went home just because my boyfriend wasn’t there to buy junk food… :roll_eyes::rofl:).
I’m more focused on trying to build a little more muscle in my butt, hamstrings and delts specifically. I competed in bodybuilding competitions like 5 years ago and would like to do it again (but wayyy more improved. I wasn’t ready then) so I’m focusing on that.
I also want to be able to do 10 pullups by the end of the year. (I’m at 5.)

I never realized how hard pull-ups can be until I tried them :joy: Some people make it seem so easy.

I never even attempted them until like a year ago because I was convinced I couldn’t do them (unassisted) until my boyfriend told me to suck it up and try lol :see_no_evil:

Haha I have never in my life been able to do a pull up and prob never will. Even at my healthiest and regularly going to the gym. But I honestly don’t care. :woman_shrugging:

Phew, just re-started working out and it was tough but fun. I enjoy dancing a lot but don’t wanna pay for classes atm, so I did a few songs of The Fitness Marshall on YouTube and though I looked ridiculous (I have been told that I look like I’m doing ballet while dancing hip hop) I sweat a bit and had fun!

Anyone else have free workout recommendations?
