Jessica’s eyes met Dorian’s as he told her to not sit on the floor. Though, Jess stayed unwavering. Perhaps it was the stubbornness in her. Was she cold? Slightly but right now, she was still too frustrated with Dori to give him anything, so she stayed still. “Apparently I have a cold heart, so it doesn’t really matter,” she mumbled, staring him dead in the eyes as she said the words. Though a slight laugh met her annoyed expression when he mentioned his brother. “Dylan?” Jess questioned as she hugged her chest to gather a little bit of warmth. With those words, she had realized that Dorian hadn’t stayed for the whole reveal that they were pranking his parents. “We’re not dating, Dorian,” Jess mumbled with a sigh. “It was a joke on your parents because of the comments they make at every single dinner about us being together and we both wanted it to stop. But I’m glad you and Anna were happy,” Jess revealed, looking away from him the instant she said that.
Unwilling to spend another millisecond talking to Dorian, Jessica Pierce’s eyes had fluttered closed, her shoes off and scattered on the floor in front of her, as her head leaned against the bars once again – this time embracing the cold. She was doing the one thing that would allow her to shut up in closed confinement with someone – spend the time thinking. One may wonder what she was thinking of – though, with Jessica Pierce, a better question was usually what was she not thinking about? Her mind truly was an intriguing thing – only comparable to that of Daniel Parker. Less so intricate than Danny’s, however, though Jessica’s mind still moved at a million miles per minute. Nevertheless, It was something she had gotten used to… mostly. There were a few memories she would have rather forgotten… but alas, that wasn’t how her brain functioned. This time, her mind had fluttered back to the very night she left… which was, ironically, the first time in a long time that she had thought about that. Though with the way Jess’ mind worked, if she thought about it – she found herself back fully immersed in the memory of her past. Reliving every word, every moment, how the scenery appeared, how the weather against her skin, and even the feelings running through her mind at that moment. Every single thing rushed back in her as if it had just happened – a hellish feeling when it was something as emotionally draining as the night she left. Perhaps it was the proximity with her past. With Dorian, the DeLoughrey’s, hell, this whole place in general. After all, It was so much easier forgetting when she wasn’t propped right in the middle of her old life.
~Flashback~
Light rain dripped down the crisp August evening. Could she even call it evening anymore? Not really – it was 2:21 AM and Jessica had just snuck out of Mikel Lucas’ bed who had fallen into a deep slumber soon after they had finished their… honestly, awkward night. Jessica laid on the grass in front of Daniel Parker’s house, her mind filled with thoughts of what she had to do in the next few minutes. Sooner or later, at least. Perhaps if anyone saw her at that moment, they would have screamed at her to get inside, though, she didn’t want to. She enjoyed the rain – mingling in between the slight tears gathering in her eyes – a rare occurrence as Jessica Pierce never cried. At least, no one had ever seen her cry. The way the stars looked that night helped calm her momentarily, though she knew sooner or later the girl needed to get up and go. Disappear without a trace. It was… just easier that way. The alternative just became so… difficult. She had tried to get into contact with Andy earlier that day, though he had been unreachable, so after a few calls - she gave up. Perhaps that’s why she went to Mikel and for a moment, he provided comfort within his arms. Dorian, however, was off-limits, his date with Kara on the edge of her mind – recalling as she had… in a way… seen the two when she stopped by his house hours earlier. The lights in his room off, though it was obvious through the shadows that there were two people in there. Perhaps if it had been another night, things would have been different. One where Andy had picked up her call. Or one where Dorian hadn’t been indisposed.
Though, after a few more moments of her mind in overdrive, thinking of all the ‘what if’ scenarios – Jess pulled her body off the floor – mostly drenched with water simply for the sheer amount of time she had spent within the light rain. With that, Jess made her way to the Parker Family helicopter where the pilot was patiently waiting for her. “Thank you…” Jess mumbled, taking a seat inside as the man looked at her. ”Are you ready?”
The words rang in her ears as she looked back at the man, stilling for a moment. “I… wait,” Jess revealed – walking back outside one last time as she pulled her phone out – looking at a number that was saved under favorites: Dorian DeLoughrey. A slight sigh left her lips as she pressed the number, putting it up to her ear as she hoped for a live response… or maybe… deep down she hoped he wouldn’t pick up the call at all. Well, that wish was granted as a robotic voice soon met her ear about leaving a voicemail after the beep and another sad sigh escaped her mouth the moment she could speak. Though Jessica Pierce didn’t know exactly what to say… or hell… even what she wanted to say – the words simply left her lips as they usually did. Without thought.
” I have to do something that I really don’t want to do Dori… I need someone to stop me or talk me out of it… or just bloody say it’s going to be okay… Please just stop me because if you don’t… I don’t think we’ll ever see each other again.”
The words painfully left her lips as she ran her hands through her wet hair, sitting down on the concrete, her arms hugging her legs, as she continued to speak. ” God… look at me, I’m such a mess. But honestly, I’m always a mess huh? I mean, you’ve seen me in the mornings, right? A bloody freaking mess 24/7.…” A slight laugh left her lips at the words. If there was something Jessica could do, it was make the worst situations into a joke. At least he’d appreciate that much… hopefully. *” Well damn… that moved off-topic fast… anyways… “I just… I wanted to say I’m sorry. Just know that I’m sorry Dori… and I… I love you.”
A deep breath of relief left her lips at the last three words. Maybe she meant it in the way that their friendship had meant to her… maybe it was the start of something more that would never happen. Deep in her heart, she knew it was the latter, but either way, she needed to say those three words to him. Even if it would never be to his face. Damn it. Maybe she really shouldn’t be saying any of this. He was with Kara now. He was happy. But she couldn’t stop herself. Though… she never really could stop herself when she started talking ” Honestly, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you since that kiss at the party.” She mumbled, her mind going back to the party they had been to a few weeks prior, just the two of them, where they both ended up in the closet somehow pressed into a game of 7 minutes in heaven. Maybe it was because Jessica was tipsy, maybe it was something else – but what neither of them had expected was the two to actually make out in that room. Not with both of them being in committed relationships at the time. Dorian with Kara, Jess with Lyonrad. Though she and Lyonrad had only lasted so long, her breaking up with him that very morning. “I know I said I didn’t remember it but… I just thought it would be better for both of us that way. Maybe I always knew it was something more but I kept kidding myself to protect Elo. To protect you… and me. Fvck. What the hell am I even saying anymore. God that got sappy fast. You know I’m not a sappy person… damn it.” she muttered in slight hysteria, wiping yet another tear streaming down her eye as she said the words.
” So… the weather’s pretty nice – you know I always loved the rain. How about the red socks. What was that again? American football or something? Honestly, I don’t even know. Baseball maybe?” Laughter once again left her lips as she said god knows what into the phone – just filling space now. “I… well this voicemail is probably going to cut me off soon. I honestly don’t even know if I’m going to send it but I’ll leave it at this if I do… Goodbye Dori. I’m going to miss you. And I swear you bloody w-nker… if you miss that next goal at your football game, I’m going to metaphorically slap you across the head…” she let out as her final few words. Though after a small pause, the last two words left her mouth, hurting her heart ever so slightly as something deep inside of her knew it may be the last time. “Bye Love.”
With that, Jessica hung up the call. Closing her phone as she looked at it for the next few minutes – unmoving. Though after about ten minutes, Jessica stood up for the final time, throwing the device on the ground knowing she would no longer need it before entering the plane. Checking her watch, Jessica nodded at the pilot. “It’s time, I’m ready”
And with that – she was gone. Flown to the private airlift where Jessica’s family plane was waiting, soon boarded by Jess with no plans of ever fully returning.
~End of Flashback~
Her eyes only fluttered back open at a familiar voice, bringing her out of the daydream she was having. As her eyes opened, her head returning to the present, Jessica tried to get her heart beat to calm down – her mind having been fully immersed in the memory of before. Though it wasn’t hard to fully find herself back when she saw Andy – confusion present in her features to why he, and Mikel, were in there with them. ”Well… anyway that plan didn’t go well,” Jess raised her eyebrows as she stood up, pulling the idiot in for a tight hug as it had been the first time she had actually seen him in two and a half months. Sure, the two had talked after what she had learned about Dan and what he’d done to Andy, but they hadn’t yet seen each other. So, she stayed in that position, her arms pulling his tall body closer towards her own, as her legs wrapped around his torso – completely immersing him in the hug. After a few minutes, though it felt like a lifetime, Jess mumbled “You’re an absolute idiot w*nker,” in his ear, though not pulling away for a long time after the words had left her lips. Though the moment she did pull away, she smacked him across the head and pulled Mikel in for a hug, kissing him on the cheek as he handed her a chocolate bar. “You’re also an idiot,” she signed, “But yes, I missed you too, you dumb knucklehead,” she mumbled, hitting him across the head as well.
With that, Jessica leaned against the wall – not even giving Dorian the effort of her time – as she looked at her two friends, ignoring Dorian’s words about calling them. “Now, you two nuggets, tell me what the bloody f*ck happened to bailing me out and how come all I got was a chocolate bar? You’ve known me for how long? And you decided THIS was all you’d sneak past security for me?” Jess questioned with a slight laugh as she opened the packet up and started eating it. Hey – melted or not, this was still chocolate. “Let me guess,” Jess stated after a bite of the candy. “You’re both drunk?” Jess asked. “I can smell it, you idiots. Why didn’t you just tell me you were wasted on the phone? I would have called Yara or hell, even Dylan.”
